Great diesel touring car. I was using this as my daily driver but I find that I use my truck more these days and I can't justify insuring three cars (I have a '73 450SL as well). I get approximately 36-37 mpg on the freeway and 32 in mixed town and freeway driving. Being able to drive 600 miles between fill ups is great! Lovely interior, super comfortable driver, sure footed at speed yet fairly nimble on the curves; this car is a joy to drive. The climate control works very well, the heat and defrost are powerful and the A/C blows ice cold. I installed a Sony CD radio with Sirius/ XM satellite capability, the original radio is included (it's in the trunk). The car rides on factory chrome 16" wheels with a full size alloy wheel for spare. The sunroof/ moonroof operates perfectly in all positions. The power windows work well and I had a very high quality tint job done all around so that the interior stays nice and cool in the summer. The power mirror switch is broken and the driver's mirror needs to be adjusted manually. The trunk is massive and can hold luggage for all five passengers! The body is solid with no rust, some idiot wrinkled the right front fender (see photos). The car has had regular oil and fuel filter changes and I installed new glow plugs, new under hood fuel lines, injector pump seals etc. last year. It starts perfectly, runs as it should and gives me trouble free service. This is the last of the diesels that don't require a smog check. Cheap registration, inexpensive insurance and great fuel mileage but all the class of a Mercedes Benz. The title is clear and in my name, registration is current through August, 2013. Sold as is with no warranty. All costs for transport and transfer of ownership are the responsibility of the buyer. Vehicle must be paid for within 7 days of auction end and picked up within 30 days of auction end. Longer storage may be arranged for a fee. Thanks for looking, good luck bidding. No reserve, high bidder wins!

Maybach lost upwards of $500k on each vehicle sold

Wed, 08 Feb 2012

Daimler is shuttering Maybach in 2013 after seven years of production. In that time, the company's ultra-ultra-luxury arm managed to sell just 3,000 units, and CAR reports Daimler lost somewhere around $500,000 on each and every one of them.
Even with a ludicrous price tag of over $370,000 for an "entry" Maybach 57, the brand couldn't quite recoup the dizzying $1.33 billion Daimler poured into it since its (re)inception. Rumors ignited over a possible tie up with Aston Martin that would have resulted in a range of new and attractive models, but Daimler has instead decided to snuff out Maybach altogether.
We can hardly blame them.

AMG-powered Aston Martins still years away

Mon, 16 Sep 2013

After flirting for several years, Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin have finally tied the knot. Just don't expect to see any offspring to result from the union for at least three or four years.
This according to Auto Express, which spoke with Daimler chief Dr. Dieter Zetsche at the Frankfurt Motor Show last week. AE reports that a new range of AMG-developed turbocharged V8s, transmissions and electrical components will make their way into the successors to the current V8 Vantage and DB9, but that these models are still a few years off.
Purists might balk at the thought of a Mercedes-powered Aston holding true to the brand's heritage. But while David Brown (for whom the DB range is named) may have steered clear of shoehorning in Detroit muscle into his cars, the entirety of the company's current range is powered by engines borrowing technology from Ford, and that arrangement seems to have worked well for Aston until now. And if you're still skeptical, look no further than Pagani and its AMG-sourced engines and you should have all the proof you need that the new relationship between Daimler and Aston could be a success.

Russia gives its Olympic medalists new Mercedes

Thu, 27 Feb 2014

Russian medalists at the recently concluded Sochi Winter Olympics are being rewarded quite handsomely for their service to the Motherland. In addition to the $120,000 being handed out for each gold medal, the $76,000 being awarded for slivers and $52,000 given to bronze winners, now word has come out that each of Russia's medalists will be gifted a new Mercedes-Benz.
As with the prize amounts, the type of Mercedes offered was based on what sort of medal was won. Gold medalists got a new GL-Class, silver medalists were given an ML and bronze medalists were treated to a GLK. As prices for Mercedes are higher in Russia, the cheapest model, the GLK, was the equivalent of $59,500, according to The Moscow Times. The cars were handed out by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, pictured above with figure skating medalist Julia Lipnitskaia.
"I was a bit shocked at the car I was given," Anton Shipulin, a member of the gold-medal biathlon relay team, told RIA-Novosti. "Of course I knew what kind of model it would be, but I didn't totally believe it." For athletes not old enough to drive, like 15-year-old Lipnitskaia, their Mercedes will come complete with a driver.
