1988 Mercedes Benz 420sel Limo 120" Stretch Limousine 560sel W126 Length 27 Feet on 2040-cars
Daytona Beach, Florida, United States
1988 Mercedes Benz 420SEL Stretch Limousine 120" Stretch. 27 Feet Long. (listed as 1980 as eBay does not recognize the VIN) I bought this stretch limo from a limo service. It was in service regularly. Lovely color combination and absolutely glorious in it's 1980's style! Engine starts right up, Transmission Shifts Smoothly, Drives Smooth and Straight, Brakes Properly and Straight and Tires have plenty of tread! The Interior is in great condition! Quite honestly, I did not have it cleaned. It really looks great and, after a professional detail, it should look amazing! Paint shines up nicely! There are a few rust bubbles (see Picassa Pics) where it appears a vinyl top was removed at some point. I think a light grey vinyl top would look amazing and would be a quick and easy fix for the rust bubbles. Glass is all in great condition and the chrome and stainless trim present well! The rear passenger area is awesome and perfectly 1980's. Try to find one in this condition! All things considered, this limo is an amazing find! WE HAVE OTHER CLASSIC MERCEDES AVAILABLE! I can assist with shipping worldwide! Call Mike with any questions 386.334.0709. A note about photos: Click on the photo tile or slideshow, below, and you will be directed to our Picassa web album. We have more pics on the Picassa album than posted here on eBay. The photos are high resolution and can be downloaded (go to "Actions" tab and "Download to Picassa") if you have a Picassa account. Mercedes-Benz to build new ML coupe-crossover in Alabama in 2015
Fri, 05 Sep 2014Mercedes-Benz will expand its factory in Tuscaloosa, AL, to build the ML Coupe, a new crossover that will join its lineup in 2015. Mercedes will also ramp up production to build facelifted versions of the M-Class and GL-Class SUVs, lifting the factory's total production capacity to about 300,000 units annually in 2015. It made 185,000 vehicles in 2013. In addition to SUVs, the Tuscaloosa site also makes the C-Class sedan.
The plans come as part of Mercedes' strategy to capitalize on Americans' increasing demands for SUVs. The company said the SUV market was up 12 percent in first half of 2014, and expects it to grow at twice the rate of the regular market in 2015 and 2016.
"We are seeing climbing demand for SUVs." - Dieter Zetsche
2014 Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in Hybrid for fat cats frugal with fuel
Thu, 12 Sep 2013Judging by how long we waited to get a clear shot of the Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in Hybrid, you'd have thought hybrid cars were only driven by Terminators and that the technology arrived only 48 hours ago through a wormhole in the Mercedes stand. The newest member of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class hybrid band - joining the S400 Hybrid and S350 BlueTEC Hybrid, it hits notes like a 5.5-second sprint from standstill to 62 miles per hour, up to 19 miles of ion-powered running and uses three liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers in Europe (78.41 mpg US, but our mpg test cycle is different than their mpg test cycle).
The lump up front is a turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6, the lump in back - note the reduction in trunk space - is a pack of lithium-ion batteries that juice an 80-kilowatt electric motor. Other than having four drive options for controlling electric drive and battery usage, it's all S-Class all the time, with leather-covered everything and those mountainous thrones that bring to mind words like "Archduke" and "Papal."

Is Audi getting complacent and suffering from brain drain?
Wed, 27 Nov 2013The argument is made in a Reuters article: Audi is falling behind other luxury brands, such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW, due to a lack of research-and-development spending and "brain drain," or the migration of top executives and R&D chiefs to other parts of the Volkswagen Group. Reuters notes that Audi's current R&D chief is the third in 16 months.
Audi, which contributed to 40 percent of VW Group's $11.6 billion in profit the first nine months of the year, is delivering cars at a record pace: 1.31 million were delivered from January to October 2013 versus BMW's 1.35 million. Yet Audi, Reuters reports, doesn't have a halo car akin to BMW's new electrified i3 and i8 or an answer to Mercedes' plug-in-hybrid S-Class, and the R&D spending at Audi is less than BMW and Mercedes by a fair margin. It's noted in the article, however, that Audi benefits from other R&D spending within VW Group.
Reuters mentions that BMW "trumpets its new 'i' series" and the new Mercedes CLA and GLA ranges are winning "rave reviews" as part of its argument that Audi's recent lack of technological innovation could hurt future sales. Those cars do pack tons of new technology, some of which are firsts for mainstream production cars. But last time we checked, the i3 could be causing BMW's stock to slide, the CLA isn't receiving the rave reviews that Reuters would have you believe and the GLA hasn't been reviewed yet.
