1992 Mercedes-benz 300sd Base Sedan 4-door 3.4l on 2040-cars
Elmwood Park, New Jersey, United States
Selling a 1992 Mercedes-Benz 300SD with 168,xxx + miles on it.
Bought this car from the previous owner because he had a hard time starting it when it was cold and one day he drained the battery trying to start it. I replaced the glow plugs, and battery and the car starts up nice now. It smokes a little at first but then clears up when the engine is warm. This is a big car that glides down the road. It is a very comfortable ride. The car is in good shape for the year but is not perfect. The interior could use some cleaning. The rear passenger door panel is not sitting flush with the window. The clear coat on the hood and trunk lid is coming off in some spots. Front emblem is broken off. There are some scratches on the front and rear bumper. The suspension feels good. The odometer is not reading the actual mileage. The speedometer was not working and the instrument cluster was replaced but the speedometer still does not work. The previous owner said he dove the car with a broken speedometer for a year. Has a clean NJ title. The good: The body is in good shape with no rust. The diesel engine is strong and the transmission shifts smooth. All power seat functions work. All exterior lights work. Sunroof works, no leaks. The leather is in overall good shape with no major rips. (drivers seat shows some wear) The bad: The A/C does not blow cold air. Radio does not turn on. The speedometer does not work. This is a 22 year old car and is sold as is. If you have any questions please message me before bidding. Thanks for looking. |

UK workers strand car on island of asphalt to keep working
Wed, 06 Feb 2013Generally speaking, when you illegally park your car, you're likely to get ticketed and towed, but there is probably at least one motorist in Scotland who wishes that was the case. After workers had blocked off a portion of the parking lot for the Edinburgh Waverley railway station, the driver of this Mercedes-Benz S-Class reportedly moved some of the barriers to park in one of the empty spots.
Rather than having the vehicle towed, the work crew simply tore up the asphalt around the leaving just the one parking spot intact, and as you can see in the image above (posted to the Twitter account of Harold Norstad), the crew even built a small asphalt ramp so the car could get off its blacktop pedestal. Since this happened last week, there's no word as to whether the car was eventually moved or towed for the resurfacing work to continue.
Let this be a warning...
Autoblog drives to the Arctic Circle
Fri, 22 Mar 2013In Which Mercedes' Sprinter Becomes A Long-Distance Sherpa
In the wintery wilds of northern Alaska, even the cute little critters want to kill you.
As I am about to nod off on my long leg flight from Minneapolis to Anchorage ahead of driving to the Arctic Circle, the friendly twenty-something Alaskan knitting furiously in the seat next to me pauses and says, "When you're driving up there, don't open your windows." In the dead of winter? I hadn't planned on cruising alfresco, but her warning to keep the glazing snugged against the weatherstripping is one I would take to heart. She continues: "If you leave 'em open, a fox is liable to jump right in. There are lots of rabid foxes up there, and they leap into your car and just Go. To. Town." And here I was, thinking that a curious bear or maybe an ill-placed moose in the road was going to be my biggest potential four-legged threat. In the wintery wilds of northern Alaska, even the cute little critters want to kill you.
New Die Hard movie wrecked 132 cars in $11 million chase scene [w/video]
Sat, 16 Feb 2013It would seem the act of dying hard brings with it lots of wanton destruction of the four-wheeled kind. According to John Moore, director of A Good Day To Die Hard, starring Bruce Willis, There were 132 (cars) that could never be used again. Another 518 required a lot of work. And damn right there were some good cars there... That's the fun of it."
Please join us in one great big collective sigh. Done? Okay, let's continue.
"With Die Hard it's about how audacious the action is," says Moore. "So you have to drive over a Lamborghini. An actual one. And yes it hurts me. I'm a car fanatic." Yeah. Sounds like it hurt really bad... though not as bad as the final tally after all the carnage had been counted: "Someone showed me the numbers on the car chase and soup to nuts, you put it all together it was like an $11 million sequence."
