You are bidding on a 1985 European Mercedes Benz 280te with a very rare 5 speed. Car runs and drives great and blows COLD Air conditioning! Engine has a lot of power and is suspect of being rebuilt. There are some numbers on the back of the engine. 5 speed transmission is suspect of being rebuilt as well. Transmission is very tight and smooth. Clutch is brand new and everything else mechanically looks and drives in great condition. Body of this wagon is very clean and originally midnight blue ( dunkelblau). There are two rust holes in both rear 1/4 panels. Very small holes and can be fixed easily and spot painted. Interior is in good shape with cream beige leather seats but has signs of being 28 years old. This is a well optioned European Wagon; 5 speed transmission, roof rack delete, badge delete on hatch, power windows, air conditioning, lumbar seats, leather seats, and a tachometer.

Car runs and drives great and is a beautiful wagon. I had a reputable Northern California Mercedes mechanic go over the car with me when I bought it. After looking over the car and driving it. We suspect the car was well taken care of with a rebuilt/replaced engine and a rebuilt transmission. That being said, it is 28 years old and has never been restored. It was in a small fender bender in 1997 and now has a reconstructed title. It's been on the road in Oregon for the past 15-16 years since the accident with no problems. I bought the car and a month later decided to move to Hawaii. I am selling all my Mercedes stuff in the next 6 months and this is the first to go. You will get the reconstructed title from Oregon along with all paperwork I have. I will also give new owner a notarized bill of sale from me. If you are not ok with this, please do not bid. I can legally sell the car because it was signed off to me. I will now sign off for new owner.  California bidders, I will not smog this car. Carfax shows the car was smogged in Oregon five times in the last ten years and passed. I have the carfax report for anyone interested in seeing it. This car is being sold in as is condition described in words and pictures. Please view the car before auction ends. I have no problem showing the car to potential buyers. Failure to view the car before the auction ends is not the sellers responsibility. This is the buyers responsibility.  There are no refunds; you bid, you pay, you pick up or have a car transport company pick the vehicle up for you. I have no problem assisting in transporting but it's your financial responsibility. If you want to fly in and see the car, I will pick you up from the airport free of charge. If you have any questions about the car, now is the time to ask me all the questions you can think of. Please do not ask me ANY questions after the auction about the car unless it pertains to payment and pick up. It is frustrating as a seller to have to answer questions when you have 7 days of auction to ask me anything you want. Please have all approvals from your wife, spouse, daughter, dog or pastor before bidding. That excuse is no longer a valid one. I have a great feedback rating for a reason and I would like to keep it that way. If you want it, bid your heart away. If you don't want this car, there are other cool w123 cars out there for sale.  :)

I am open to selling the car world wide. Cost of shipping is still the buyers responsibility. Car is for sale locally and in other venues. I reserve the right to end the auction early. Remember the car is for sale when money is present. I would love to see it go to a good home! $500 deposit due within 24hrs of end of auction. Remainder due within 7 days from the end of auction. Payment should be cash in person or bank wire transfer before the car is picked up. Not the same day. Waiting at my bank for 5 hours waiting for the wire is not an option. Please, any questions feel free to email me and go from there. Thanks

Vin number wdb1230931f046171 is a grey market vin number not intended for the United States. This car at some point was brought into the country from another country.

Consumer Reports selling its road-tested roadsters [w/video]

Thu, 31 Jan 2013

Here's a chance to acquire a celebrity-owned vehicles, and this time at a discount instead of a premium. So the celebrity in this case is Consumer Reports, that magazine that could be equally adored and abhored by car enthusiasts. CR buys all of its test vehicles and usually finds willing second owners within its own ranks, but its opening its small used-car lot to the public. On the forecourt are four roadsters: an automatic 2012 Audi TT 2.0 TFSI Quattro S-Tronic with 6,600 miles for $36,500, a manual 2012 BMW Z4 sDrive28i with 8,400 miles for $45,000, a manual 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK250 for $39,500 and a manual 2013 Porsche Boxster with 7,000 miles for $48,000.
Those numbers mean a savings of $9,000 to $10,000 before haggling - each car is listed with an "Asking price" so there could be some wiggle room if you show up with pockets full of dough and eyes full of serious intent. Since the money CR earns from the sales go back into the magazine's budget to buy more test cars, however, it probably won't take any oddball trades, so you can forget about getting any purchasing help from that track-day AMC Javelin project on blocks in the back yard.
The vehicles have been taken care of and spiffed up for sale; buyers will take delivery at the CR test track in East Haddam, Connecticut and get a tour of the facilities. While you're there they'll even take you on a lap around the track so you can feel how your car handles when driven by one of its testers. They will probably not help you with advice on which toaster and dehumidifier to buy - you'll still need to get a subscription for that. Have a look at the video below to see a day in the life of a CR test car.

Is Audi getting complacent and suffering from brain drain?

Wed, 27 Nov 2013

The argument is made in a Reuters article: Audi is falling behind other luxury brands, such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW, due to a lack of research-and-development spending and "brain drain," or the migration of top executives and R&D chiefs to other parts of the Volkswagen Group. Reuters notes that Audi's current R&D chief is the third in 16 months.
Audi, which contributed to 40 percent of VW Group's $11.6 billion in profit the first nine months of the year, is delivering cars at a record pace: 1.31 million were delivered from January to October 2013 versus BMW's 1.35 million. Yet Audi, Reuters reports, doesn't have a halo car akin to BMW's new electrified i3 and i8 or an answer to Mercedes' plug-in-hybrid S-Class, and the R&D spending at Audi is less than BMW and Mercedes by a fair margin. It's noted in the article, however, that Audi benefits from other R&D spending within VW Group.
Reuters mentions that BMW "trumpets its new 'i' series" and the new Mercedes CLA and GLA ranges are winning "rave reviews" as part of its argument that Audi's recent lack of technological innovation could hurt future sales. Those cars do pack tons of new technology, some of which are firsts for mainstream production cars. But last time we checked, the i3 could be causing BMW's stock to slide, the CLA isn't receiving the rave reviews that Reuters would have you believe and the GLA hasn't been reviewed yet.

2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Coupe

Thu, 31 Jan 2013

Mercedes-Benz upgraded its SLS flagship Coupe and Roadster for the 2013 model year, and the changes are marked with them new "GT" nomenclature. Both SLS models arrive with a retuned naturally aspired 6.2-liter V8 delivering 583 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque (the horses are up from 563, but the torque remains the same) mated to a revised seven-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch gearbox. Rounding out the mechanical upgrades is a redeveloped AMG two-mode adaptive suspension. Physically, the revised models are differentiated by their new "GT" badging, darkened headlight/taillight buckets, red brake calipers, unique wheel colors and high gloss finish on the front grille, exterior mirrors and hood/fender fins. Inside the cabin are new red seatbelts, Alcantara upholstery and contrasting red stitching.
As it is nearly impossible to experience the aluminum gullwing beast on public roads, Mercedes invited out to Southern California's Willow Springs to wring out the 2013 SLS GT Coupe on a racing circuit.
