Awesomely fast and loaded under the hood. Car runs and sounds great - nice deep rumble. Garaged always. Recent tune-up at Mazdatrix - top-rated RX7-enthusiast rotary specialist shop to make sure everything is perfectly tuned and in top shape (I followed ALL recommendations). Less than 2000 miles on BRAND NEW Street ported and polished rotary motor. Greddy Single Conversion 20G Turbo. Apexi Power FC engine management system w/ controller. Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch. Greddy piping. Greddy Turbo Timer. Petit Racing Boost Guage. Denso High-Flow fuel pump. NGK Competition colder range spark plugs. Dowel pinned motor. HKS Air Filter. Momo Shift Knob. Fresh 3 layer paint job - BRIGHT Aztec red. Dyno Tuning after all upgrades - currently set to street driving/racing, but Apexi PowerFC allows that to easily be changed on the fly. And... I have the receipts.

This car is so sharp and powerful that the shop that did most of the work used it as advertisement for them. When I'd park, someone would inevitably come up and ask about it so I'd give them the body/tune shop card in exchange for some nicely discounted work on the car.  My savings are passed on to you here, as 10's of thousands of dollars were put into this car at a great value. You really will be getting a heck of a car at a very nice price. And, as I mentioned, I even recently had it tuned for perfection. Oh, and I'll also throw in the car cover for you.

And as always with these performance cars, I cannot guarantee that it will pass emissions in your zip code (different areas have different requirements, but I’ve always gotten it registered with no problem).

Thanks for looking and let me know if I can answer any questions for you.

2014 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year finalists announced [w/poll]

Tue, 10 Dec 2013

The 2014 North American International Auto Show is right around the corner, which means it's high time we found out which cars and trucks would be finalists for the prestigious North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year awards.
The finalists - three in cars and three in three trucks/utilities - are dominated by American brands, with two-thirds of the finalists hailing from either General Motors or Chrysler (don't worry Ford, there's always next year), while outliers from Mazda and Acura can be found in each contest. Here now is the list of finalists for the big prizes:

Mazda CEO says rotary not viable, so don't look for a new one

Tue, 19 Nov 2013

We have some very sad news to report, rotor-heads fans: Don't expect a new rotary-powered vehicle anytime soon. This comes straight from Masamichi Kogai, the CEO of Mazda, which is the only company to ever market a commercially successful rotary-powered automobile in the world. The issue, as it has pretty much always been, is environmental.
While the Wankel rotary engine does indeed make a lot of power in a small, lightweight package, it does so while burning lots of fuel and emitting lots of noxious gases into the atmosphere, at least when running on gasoline. And that means the rotary engine will likely only ever be able to power niche vehicles. And that, in turn, means that it is very difficult to turn a profit on vehicles with rotary engines, particularly for a small automaker like Mazda.
"It has to be a viable commercial proposition. If we are going to adopt it, it has to be a product that can generate at least sales of 100,000 units a year. We have to be able to achieve a profit," said Kogai in an interview with Automotive News. Mazda sold 56,203 RX-7 models in the United States (the automaker's biggest market) in 1986. Sales of the RX-8 peaked in 2004, its first full year on the market, with just 23,690 units.

Mazda ad showing Facebook updates while driving criticized by Senate committee [w/video]

Sat, 08 Feb 2014

Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller, D-WV, held an all-day summit on Thursday to discuss the dangers of using modern technology while driving, during which an ad that Mazda aired during the Super Bowl was used as an example of the worrisome future towards which we're headed. While seemingly innocuous at first glance, the ad, which can be seen below, shows a brief glimpse of a driver using the Mazda Connect infotainment system in a Mazda3 to check/update his Facebook page while driving down the road.
Officials from major communications companies like Samsung, Google and Apple attended the summit, as well as representatives from automakers including General Motors and Toyota. A representative from Mazda was not present despite the company's own currently available technology being used as the poster child for the issues being discussed.
According to Automotive News, Senator Rockefeller warned the automaker and communication execs on hand that he will propose legislation to regulate the use of technology while driving if they don't work together to implement their own standards more quickly. Michael Robinson, GM's vice president of sustainability and global regulatory affairs, argued that his company has had distracted driving guidelines in place for 15 years since the advent of its OnStar system, noting that the technology in question has also helped the automaker save lives through automatic crash detection and calls to 911.
