Up for sale is my 1988 Mazda RX-7 convertible. The car is in excellent condition and shows better than newer cars! The car has had a factory repaint less than a year ago, all badges and stripping was removed and the doors and jams were all wrapped ($2200.00). The motor was refreshed with a complete seal kit including apex seals at 77,600 miles. The car had a complete tune-up last month at 128,300 miles that included

- fuel filter, throttle body and fuel injector service ($65.00), NGK Platinum Plugs ($55.00), Magnecore 8.5mm plug wires ($65.00), Castrol 20W-50 motor oil with Purolator Pure One oil filter ($25.00), Mobil 1 synthetic 75W-90 gear lube for the rear differential, and manual transmission flush and fill ($100.00), new oil pulsation dampener ($70.00), new idle air valve ($458.00), new bushing kit for manual shifter ($30.00).

-Car runs Idemitsu Racing Premix with 93 Octane Shell Gas (1/2 ounce per Gallon), it's not needed, it's just better for the fuel lines, injectors, and motor.

- Car has Kenwood Excelon head unit with aux port and USB hook-up for iphone/ipod/pandora radio.
Car has new Polk dash speakers, Memphis Audio door speakers, and Mazda Headrest speakers with powered amplifier, separate volume control and surround sound selection ($550.00). System sounds amazing!)

- New Classic Soft Trim upholstered seats when new seat speakers were put in ($400.00)

- New ACC grey carpet kit when car was repainted ($175.00)

The car is super clean and has been meticulously maintained and cared for throughout its life. The RX-7 has just 129,376 miles on it and runs flawlessly. It has also won cleanest stock car at classic car shows (which is hard due to it being an import surrounded by American made autos).  The only thing I could suggest this car needs is new floor mats as the ones I have take away from the interior of the car, they are clean, just not bright anymore. This cars average retail is $5,475, with a high retail of $8,450 according to NADA.  It qualifies for the high retail price.  The carfax is clean, but they score the car low due to number of owners, of which a few were simply one dealer selling to another.  Please contact me with questions at 941-786-4930, My name is Carl. Clean and clear title in hand. These pictures were taken on 1/12/14.

MotorWeek proves '90s were awesome with Supra, Stealth, RX-7, Corvette, 968, 300ZX comparo

Thu, 24 Jul 2014

Oh, the heady days of 1993, back when the Clinton Presidency was just getting underway, and it seemed like every hot new rock band was coming out of Seattle. Sports cars in the US had finally shaken off the shackles that slowed them during the '70s and '80s, and you could buy any number of legitimately quick vehicles again. MotorWeek recently went digging into its archives to find this six-model test from 1993 showing off some of the best semi-affordable performance coupes that money could buy at the time, and it's priceless.
Featuring the 1994 model year Toyota Supra in twin-turbo guise and MY 1993 versions of the Porsche 968, Nissan 300ZX TT, Mazda RX-7, Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo and Chevrolet Corvette LT-1, MotorWeek definitely covered all of the bases. One thing that might surprise younger readers is these cars' performance. The video only provides 0-60 acceleration times, but several of these vehicles would still be considered pretty potent today - over 20 years since going on sale. The Supra is especially impressive, hitting 60 miles per hour in just 5 seconds. Even today, that's nothing to sneeze at.
Given their performance potential and still-attractive looks, it's amazing that some of these coupes are old enough to drink now. The progress of interior design and safety equipment in the intervening years is pretty shocking, though. In most of these models, having two airbags is touted as a big deal. Scroll down to watch a Throwback Thursday blast from the past about some of the '90s best sports cars.

Mazda2 with extended-range hybrid rotary tech shown

Mon, 23 Dec 2013

Every story dealing with a new rotary engine from Mazda lands in a different place on the matrix of possibilities between "Coming soon!" and "Never gonna happen!" In 2011 it was speculated that the rotary engineering program would be shut down with the demise of the RX-8, in 2012 the program was still alive and taking lessons from the SkyActiv engines, in August 2013 a Mazda insider said a rotary engine called 16X would be here in two years, in November the CEO said the only way we'd ever get a new rotary is if Mazda could sell 100,000 of them per year. Meaning that, for the moment, you can forget about it.
And yet, last month Mazda was putting journalists in a Mazda2 RE Range Extender, an electric car using a 0.33-liter rotary to power its lithium-ion batteries when the charge runs down. With a 75-kilowatt, 100-horsepower electric motor turning the front wheels, the Wankel generator and its 2.6-gallon gas tank living under the trunk double the range of the electric-only Mazda2 to 250 miles.
There's been talk of using a rotary to assist an alt-fuel vehicle for at least seven years, with Mazda pairing an electric motor with a rotary that ran on gas and hydrogen in a Mazda5 in 2007. Since then, almost all of those stories debating its return or demise also spoke of the oddball motor's advantages, such as compact size and ability to run on various fuels, as an aid in an unconventional powertrain.

Mazda delays US launch of Skyactiv-D engine

Thu, 09 Jan 2014

Japanese automakers haven't lead the charge towards diesel power in the same way as, say, the Germans have. But Mazda is out to change that. It has been following Audi's lead on the racetrack with oil-burning racecars right here in America, and will soon translate that excitement to the road by introducing its Skyactiv-D engine in North America. It just won't happen as soon as we expected.
Mazda announced today that, while its diesel engine meets current emissions requirements, the company has decided once again to push back an introduction originally slated to kick off in the Spring. According to the brief statement below, Mazda wants to take more time to find "the right balance between fuel economy and Mazda-appropriate driving performance."
In other words, the Zoom-Zoom brand apparently thinks its diesel engine doesn't deliver the zoom-zoom American drivers would expect, so we'll have to wait just a little bit longer. Details to follow closer to launch, whenever that will ultimately take place.
