Special "black & Tan" Edition W/hardtop - 79k Miles - No Rust - Clean Carfax on 2040-cars
Sugar Grove, Illinois, United States
Outstanding example of the first generation Miata - the purest variant of the model. Each year, Mazda offered special editions - this is the '92 version, called the "Black & Tan." The tan leather interior is in great shape, with just a little wear on the driver's seat and side bolster - no wear through or tears, though. Tan carpets (with original SE floor mats) in great shape - very clean with minimal wear. It includes the matching tan top (great condition) and vinyl top boot (also in great shape). The Nardi wood shift knob and parking brake handle are also original and were specific to the '92 SE model - as are the stainless steel sill plates. It is also equipped with ice-cold A/C, power windows, cruise control, and a limited slip differential. The stock radio has been replaced with an Alpine AM/FM/CD/MP3 unit with a removeable faceplate, as well as new Clearwater speakers in the doors and new OEM-style headrest speakers. The BFG tires are in great shape with lots of tread remaining. No modifications. Non-smoker - very clean inside, in the trunk, and underhood. No rust and no corrosion on the aluminum bits under the hood - see the engine photo for more detail. Includes a red HARDTOP that is not original to the car. Issues - The power antenna motor works, but the toothed cable is broken - a new antenna is included. Also, the rear window plastic is yellowed, brittle, and cracked in two places, but the window can be replaced without replacing the top - a shop local to me will do it for $100 with the rear section of the top removed. There are a few door dings and paint scratches that come with normal use, but overall the body is in excellent condition. The wheels are non-original and from a '94 Miata - the '92 SE came with BBS wheels. Has a clean CARFAX showing two prior owners before me - I've owned it for the past year. I prefer local pick-up, but will assist the winning bidder's shipper with loading for shipment to the lower 48 states only - no international buyers. Also, the winning bidder is responsible for all taxes and fees associated with shipping. Sold as-is, where is, with no warranty. A five hundred dollar ($500) deposit in the form of a certified check or cash is due within seven (7) days of the end of the auction and full payment is due upon pick-up or shipment - which must occur within fourteen (14) days of the end of the auction. Buyer is responsible for all transfer fees. |

China's FAW now building all three Mazda6 generations
Tue, 13 May 2014The Chinese auto market is one of the most interesting in the world to look at. Its automakers appear to still be figuring things out and remain open to experimentation. For example, at this moment, you can buy new copies of all three generations of the Mazda6 from showrooms there.
Mazda joint-venture partner FAW recently introduced the latest generation to China as the Mazda6 Atenza, according to Just Auto. Yet buyers still have the option of getting the previous generation as well, which is sold as the Mazda6 Ruiyi. Obviously, that isn't too remarkable - companies in the US have briefly sold two generations of the same nameplate simultaneously for brief points in the past, and the practice is much more common in developing markets. However, Chinese consumers still have the third choice, too - the first-generation model that dates back to the early 2000s, is still on offer, known simply as Mazda6.
While it would be hard to imagine selling three generations of the same models at once in the US, the idea is an interesting one. We enjoyed our long-term test of the latest generation, and the previous models weren't bad cars either, so provided there's a healthy difference in pricing and marketplace confusion is limited by differing names, we can see it working. If nothing else, it's a fascinating illustration of how broad China's developing auto market really is.
Mazda6 Coupe coming along with more Mazdaspeed models?
Thu, 30 Oct 2014The predecessor to the Mazda6, the Mazda 626, was sold in a multitude of body styles across the globe. It could, of course, be had as a sedan, but a two-door coupe, known stateside as the MX-6, was also available on the same platform. Now, a new report from Motor Trend claims that a two-door version of the modern Mazda6 could be on the way.
This would be remarkable for a number of reasons, as automakers have been abandoning this type of non-luxury coupe for decades. A class that counted entries from Toyota, Nissan, Chevrolet, Dodge and Chrysler is now occupied solely by Honda with its Accord Coupe.
Ignoring that, though, MT claims we'll see a two-door Mazda6 in the second half of 2016. When that new variant arrives, it will be with an even more dramatic version of the sedan's Kodo design language. Mazda could rely even more heavily on styling inspiration of the Shinari Concept, which already informs the design of the current 6 sedan, when the two-door model arrives.
Mazda poaches designer Kevin Rice back from BMW
Wed, 30 Oct 2013Kevin Rice left Mazda a baker's dozen years ago, but now he's back.
A graduate of the Transportation Design program at Coventry University (just across town from Jaguar headquarters), Rice worked his way up in the industry working for the likes of Opel and Italdesign Giugiaro before landing a job at Mazda. Between 1995 and 2000, he collaborated on such projects as the RX-8 and the 1999 Neospace concept that previewed the Mazda2 before moving on to BMW, where the new 3 Series and 4 Series were among the last projects he worked on during his 13-year tenure in Munich.
Now back at Mazda, Rice has been named the Japanese automaker's new creative director, charged with further honing the brand's KODO design language from its European headquarters in Oberursel, Germany. We're looking forward to seeing what he and his design team come up with in the coming years.
