This auction is for a 2000 Lincoln LS equipped with the 3.9 V8. I have had the vehicle for a couple of months. I took the vehicle as payment for some I work I did. The owner had said there was a coolant leak.  She stopped driving it and started driving one of her daughters car. I have been driving the car now for the last two months and everything seems to be working great now with the noted exceptions. Here is what I have replaced/rebuilt on the car.

1) The plastic thermostat housing was leaking. I replaced it with the aluminum part that was used in the Jaguar.
2) The water pump was also leaking. I replaced it with an aftermarket part with no plastic in it.
3) The left front wheel bearing/ hub assembly was groaning so that is brand new.
4) The left front door handle on the inside was sloppy so I replaced it with a new metal one.
5) The sun roof has been completely rebuilt with all new moving parts/ cleaned and greased. The drain pipes now have clamps on then so you won't have to worry about leaks.
6) Coolant has been flushed and is new.
7) The wheels are an upgrade from stock.
8) I replaced several of the coil on plug devices. (COPs). One had failed and two others had broken mounting ears.
8) Various light bulbs have been replaced.
9) The air conditioning blows cold.
10) All the electric windows, locks and power seats work.
11) The transmission is great and shifts fine.

The car is now a good daily driver. The tires hae about 50-60% of their tread left.  Here are the known imperfections or missing items.

1) There is no spare tire. I can locate a steel wheel with a tire on it in a salvage yard if you will be driving any distance after picking up the car. I will charge you what ever it costs me.
2) As can be seen in the pictures the "CHECK ADVANCETRACK" light is on. This is a frequent problem in these cars. The anti-lock brake function still works and the traction control still works. It is up to you to decide if you want to repair this item.
3) The biggest body work dent is at the leading edge of the passenger front door. There are a few other blemishes and the read bumper plastic facade has a crack at the right rear.
4) The heated seats don't work and I did not investigate the cause of that.

I had considered keeping this car because I really like the performance and the ride and handling, but I have  4 other vehicles so I just can't justify keeping it. If you have any questions call and I will try to answer them. 828-674-7579. It is a decent honest car now. I have put almost $1000.00 into it since I got it and it should give someone several more years of reliable service.

If you are a scammer don't bother. I know all the ruses and won't play along. Payment must be by Paypal, wire transfer or cash. A deposit of $500 is due within 48 hours of winning the auction. If you want the car shipped some where, you will need to arrange for that.

What will the next Presidential limo look like?

Thu, 25 Jul 2013

With recent news that the Secret Service has begun soliciting proposals for a new armored limousine, we've been wondering what the next presidential limo might look like. The current machine, nicknamed "The Beast", has a design based on a car that's no longer sold: the Cadillac DTS. If General Motors gets the job again, which wouldn't be a surprise considering the government still owns a chunk of the company, the next limo's shape would likely resemble the new XTS (below, left). But Cadillac hasn't always been the go-to car company for presidential whips.
Lincoln has actually provided far more presidential limousines throughout history than Cadillac. In fact, the first car modified for Commander-in-Chief-carrying duty was a 1939 Lincoln K-Series called "Sunshine Special" used by Franklin D. Roosevelt, and the last Lincoln used by a president was a 1989 Town Car ordered for George H.W. Bush. If President Obama wanted a Lincoln today, it would likely be an amalgam of the MKS sedan and MKT crossover, as illustrated above.
And what about Chrysler? The only record we could find of a President favoring the Pentastar is Nixon, who reportedly ordered two limos from the company during his administration in the '70s, and then another one, known today as the "K-Car limo," in the '80s after he left office. Obama, however, has a personal - if modest - connection to Chryslers, having owned a 300 himself before he took office. A 300-based Beast (above, right) would certainly earn the U.S. some style points.

J Mays retiring from Ford design, succeeded by Moray Callum

Tue, 05 Nov 2013

Ford's highly influential head of design, J Mays, has announced that he'll be retiring from his position after 33 years in the industry, 16 of which were at the Dearborn, MI-based company. Upon departure, he'll be succeeded as group vice president of design by Moray Callum. If that last name sounds familiar, yes, he's the brother of Jaguar's Ian Callum.
It's difficult to explain just how big of a role Mays had on not just Ford's design over the years, but on the entire industry. Before heading to Dearborn, Mays worked for Audi, BMW and then Volkswagen, where he was involved in concept cars that paved the way for design icons like the first-generation Audi TT and the Volkswagen New Beetle. As for his Ford resume, it's extensive.
Mays joined the company in 1997 as design director for Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Mazda, as well as the Premier Automotive Group (Volvo, Land Rover, Jaguar and Aston Martin). He was heavily involved in the Ford Fusion, Focus, Fiesta, Taurus, F-150 and Mustang, while also contributing to concept cars like the Atlas, Evos, 427, Forty-Nine, Shelby GR-1, Lincoln MKZ and the MKC.

Lincoln takes to the Super Bowl with Twitter schizophrenia

Fri, 01 Feb 2013

Lincoln has officially pulled off the wraps on its ad for this year's Super Bowl. As you may recall, the company invited people to send in their tweets to help craft the spot's story line with Jimmy Fallon in the director's chair. The company chose five tweets and ran with them, and the result is, well, about as focused as your average online comment thread. We do get plenty of shots of the all-new Lincoln MKZ, as well as at least one comment on the interior leather's suppleness.
Do we learn a single thing about the brand's new honey? Nope. But there's a turtle crossing, a band of bikers, a German farming student and herd of alpacas. Mostly, the ad just makes us tired. You can check out the full spot before it airs during the big game by watching it below. We'll be busy preparing for the alpacalypse.
AOL Autos' associate editor Peter Bigelow went deeper in his criticism. Have a read: Lincoln's Super Bowl Ad is A Flop.
