1965 Lincoln Continental -- Very Low And Unique Vin 222 --- on 2040-cars
Fowler, Colorado, United States
VIN: This is a 1965 Lincoln Continental bearing VIN 5Y82N400222. In 1965 the Lincoln production numbers started with 400001, and Mercury started with 500001. That means that this is the 222nd Lincoln off the line. I have yet to see another surviving Continental a VIN anywhere near that low, let alone a numerical sequence as unique as this one.
OWNER HISTORY: I purchased this vehicle from a gentleman who informed me that he owned the car for 14 years. Previous ownership prior to him is unknown to me. TRIM/BODY: All of the bodywork on this car has been completed, this car is STRAIGHT. There is no rot anywhere on the car. All of the chrome and trim pieces are present and in great condition with the exception of the passenger side turn signal lens. All headlights, taillights, turn signals, license plate lamps, etc. work. All of the trim in the interior is present and in great condition as well. A few bulbs in the interior have burned out as can be expected. Car still has the original owners manual, which is missing the cover. All doors, trunk and hood open and close properly. Original hubcaps are still on the car and in good condition, though they do have a few small dents and dings. OPTIONS: This car came with the upgraded AM/FM radio which is still present in the car. It featured cruise control which is no longer working, but the switch is still present. It has electric everything, even electric wing windows. Car originally had AC but was removed with the factory 430 engine. ENGINE/TRANS: The car originally came with the a 430, it has been swapped out to a 302 which is mated to a C4 transmission. OVERALL: Car runs and drives. Power brakes work great, as does the power steering. Does pull to the right when driving, will need an alignment. Lincoln trumpets $129M investment, 300 new jobs in Louisville for MKC
Tue, 26 Aug 2014Remember when we used to talk about how close Lincoln was to being axed and how it seemed any day now the Grim Reaper would use it as a car service back to the grave? Last time we did it was, oh, not even a month ago. What a difference 27 days makes: Ford and Lincoln are trumpeting a $129M investment in the Louisville Assembly Plant that builds the MKC.
In July the MKC was the third-best-selling Lincoln of the brand's six offerings, beat by the MKZ and - by a much smaller margin - the MKX. It has sold 2,895 units in the two months it's been on sale, which is more than half the year-to-date sales of the MKS, MKT and Navigator. It's already important, is what we're trying to say, and this is before the Chinese market gets a crack at it later this year.
The money headed to Kentucky will be joined by 300 new workers, another marker in Ford's march to create 12,000 hourly jobs in the US by next year. You can read more about it in the press release below.
Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes
Thu, 10 May 2012When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.
2015 Lincoln MKC
Mon, 09 Jun 2014Back in 2012, Lincoln claimed its comeback bid was finally underway with the new-for-2013 MKZ. But don't you believe them - the renaissance won't actually begin in earnest until the shapely compact crossover seen here reaches showrooms in big numbers. That's because while the four-door MKZ was indeed a proper step toward rebirth, the 2015 MKC is the first wholly conceived vehicle under Lincoln as a standalone brand, a move first announced back in 2012.
That's an important distinction, because Lincoln's newfound emancipation from Ford's design and development processes has given the struggling marque both the corporate wherewithal and the will to develop a more fully formed product. The four-wheeled result seen here is a surprisingly cohesive luxury CUV, one with significantly more aesthetic and dynamic separation from its Ford Escape sibling than the MKZ and its Fusion counterpart. Said another way, after flogging Lincoln's latest for hundreds of miles over canyon roads outside of Santa Barbara, we've come to understand that this is far from a re-grilled Dearborn special with luxury tinsel - it's a bona fide standalone product that readily displays the sort of clear differentiation seen in platform cousins like the Audi Q5 and the Volkswagen Tiguan. It's the real deal.
