Brief Description:

2004 Land Rover Discovery Series II. With only 79,000 miles this is one of the lowest mileage Land Rover Discoverys available. I originally purchased this vehicle while stationed in San Diego with the Navy.

This car is the last of the old style Land Rover Discovery, the last truly capable off-road british sports utility vehicle. In the last year, this car had two notable features -- (1) Low speed transfer case to allow crawling off road, (2) 4.6L Engine with improved fuel economy, and torque (300 ft lbs)
This car originally sold for $38,685

I am a non-smoker, with no pets, so the interior is clean and unscathed. There are a few dirt spots and small stains (floor mats, etc.) but really no scratches/tears to the leather interior, and this is all noted in the report. The car is also primarily garage-parked so the exterior is in decent shape for a 9 year old car. It has its little scrapes and rock chips on the front bumper, but nothing unexpected -- this Disco has NOT been off-roaded.

Last Maintenance and maintenance needs:

In order to ensure the vehicle was ready for sale, I had the car undergo an independent, third part pre-purchase inspection for the prospective buyers. The mechanic said the vehicle was in excellent condition overall, with mechanical and electrical systems coming back good/excellent.

Tires have more than 50% tread remaining, and the brakes have less than 50% wear, so there is plenty of life remaining on wear-and-tear items.

Personal Use:

This has been my personal vehicle for the past few years while I served in the Navy in San Diego, and now as an ROTC officer in Virginia. Im a non-smoker without pets, and the vehicle has been garage kept.

Jaguar to offer high-performance SVR models like Land Rover?

Tue, 01 Jul 2014

At the Goodwood Festival of Speed this past weekend, Land Rover previewed its upcoming performance version of the Range Rover Sport. Only instead of wearing the R-S badge that adorns the most hardcore of Jaguar models, the performance SUV from JLR's Special Operations unit introduced the letters SVR. And now, it seems that badge is here to stay.
Following the Range Rover Sport SVR, a new report from Motor Authority now says that Jaguar Land Rover will use those letters to distinguish the top-of-the-line performance models from both marques moving forward. As such, we might expect SVR models of the upcoming Jaguar XE compact sedan and Land Rover Discovery Sport, as well as potential new performance models based on the new F-Type and next-generation XF.
If accurate, the move would seem to separate Jaguar in particular from the R-S badge that has adorned performance models like the XFR-S and XKR-S. Both Audi and Porsche use the letters RS to distinguish its most hardcore models as well (e.g. Audi RS7 Sportback and Porsche 911 GT3 RS). Whether the similarity was a factor in shifting to the SVR moniker, we don't know, but either way, we welcome the arrival of a new generation of Jaguar and Land Rover performance models - especially if they pack the 575-horsepower version of the company's ubiquitous 5.0-liter supercharged V8. Not incidentally, that delicious powerplant gained a couple of new engine bays to call home at Goodwood as well - it's not just found in the forthcoming Range Rover Sport SVR, it's found a home in the F-Type Project 7, too.

Jaguar Land Rover in talks for Southern US factory

Mon, 20 Oct 2014

Jaguar Land Rover is getting serious about global expansion, and that means it can't only build its vehicles in the UK anymore. The British automaker is cutting the ribbon at its new plant in China tomorrow, marking the opening of its first factory outside the UK. In 2016, it will open another factory in Brazil. But the latest intel has it that JLR is looking into a US factory, as well.
The report, which comes to us from the Sunday Times by way of Automotive News Europe, indicates that the company is evaluating locations for a North American factory, with options centering around Southern right-to-work states like South Carolina, where BMW operates its plant in Spartanburg and a wide array of other automotive operations are based as well. The JLR plant would reportedly ramp up to a capacity of 200,000 units per year.
In related news, while that new plant JLR is inaugurating in Changshu, China, is initially slated to produce the Range Rover Evoque, it is also expected to start building the new Discovery Sport as well - just like the Halewood plant in the UK that has handled Evoque assembly from the start and which just built its first Discovery Sport, as well.

Is It An Off-Road Adventure Or Just A Walk In The Park?
I remember having to get out and lock hubs and shift into neutral to engage low range.
Coming off press previews of the 2013 Land Rover Range Rover and the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee that involved some heavy-duty off-road rock climbing, I'm simply amazed at the capabilities that these vehicles possess. But even more impressive (or troubling depending on your perspective) is the relative ease with which you can operate these vehicles in seemingly impossible terrain.
