Rioja Red on Bahama Beige:  Inspired by the wine region of La Rioja in Spain, this deep red looks nothing less than sensual!    If you have been looking for a beautiful, serviced, low mile, wonderful driving Discovery, wait no longer!

Background:
Let me begin with a little background. It was ordered in a BEAUTIFUL color and option package. To begin with, this is the fantastic SE model. The SE model and this specific truck were optioned and were graced with Land Rover "Deep Dish" (the factory name) wheels, wood accents, partial wood center console and few other wonderful trim pieces. This truck was dealer maintained for most of its life!  Originally first sold in Arizona in December 1997 and serviced at the Jaguar Land Rover dealer in Scottsdale for 3 years, the truck then moved to San Diego and was serviced at Land Rover Miramar for 6 years. After San Diego the truck moved to Los Angeles in 2007 and was serviced at the wonderful Land Rover of South Bay dealership.

The Condition and Service:

This truck has been ENTHUSIASTICALLY and PROFESSIONALLY maintained and serviced and is a high standard for Rover service!

Let's start on the engine and drivetrain:
This engine has LOW MILES (less than 6,500 a year), only 108,000 miles appear on the odometer and the entire truck shows the same care.  There has been A TON of scheduled and preventive maintenance performed to this truck to keep in near brand new condition.  The engine is very healthy and has loads of smooth power!

-HEAD GASKETS
As part of the preventive service schedule, this truck received brand new OEM head gaskets and OEM headbolts.  It was installed by a master Rover tech with several decades of experience.  The truck runs COOL as can be and has never overheated.

-UPPER AND LOWER ENGINE GASKETS
While being serviced, the valve cover gaskets, valley pan gaskets, valve stem seals, upper intake gaskets and crank seal, all resealed among a few other minor seals.  NONE of these were leaking, but were done in order to keep with the same high regard and care.

-LOWER ENGINE
Great shape, no knocks or mechanical issues!!  As with ALL Rovers there is some minor "moisture" at oil pan seals, power steering etc. Its the British car way.  That said the truck leaves no puddles or drips.

-RADIATOR
The radiator was cleaned and rodded in order to keep maximum flow and keep this beauty nice and cool.  The temp needle NEVER moves past 7/8pm even with the AC on and in traffic.

-HOSES
New OEM hoses

-IGNITION
Brand new Champion coppers (the RIGHT plugs) and wires.

-BATTERY
BRAND NEW Bosch battery!!

-EMERGENCY BRAKE
Recently adjusted and tight, only a couple notches on the handle holds the truck tight

-TRANSMISSION
The trans was just given all new fluid and shifts great!

-DIFFS and DRIVESHAFTS
New gear oil in the diffs and lubricated u-joints

-SWIVEL BALLS
Fresh grease, serviced and shims

-FUEL PUMP
The truck received a brand new fuel pump a couple years ago to replace a weak pump.  Great fuel pressure and runs like a beast!

Lets move to the suspension and brakes:

-BRAKES
BRAND NEW OEM brake master cylinder! BRAND NEW OEM brake pads in the front and rear - loads of pad life!  The truck brakes great.  No ABS lights!  BRAND NEW front rotors!

-SHOCKS
Great feeling OEM shocks.  They are soft on bumps and tight in corners.  The trucks handles wonderfully!

-STEERING
The steering is tight and has no excess play as you may find in MANY Discoveries.  BRAND NEW steering stabilizer!

-4WD SYSTEM
4WD Low and High both work great!  No transfer case whine!

Let's continue to the exterior:

-PAINT
The paint is very nice!  It is a 8 out of 10 easily.  the truck was repainted in stock Rioja Red a few years back.  NOT because of an accident.  CLEAN and CLEAR CarFax.  Rioja Red from the factory tended to fade and the clearcoats wear weak.  This truck was repainted with a nice paint job that while not perfect, shines and looks fantastic.  There are few minor dings which are very hard to see in pics and in person and there are some touch ups to the paint on the truck on various parts of the truck.  See the last pic below for an example.  Remember this is a 16-17 year old truck, there may be some minor scratches, wear etc, but they are well below any expectation level for Discoveries or cars of this year. I try to explain these the trucks the best I can!  Its hard if not impossible to see in pics and you have to be right up on it to see it in person.  Could almost not mention it just trying to be thorough!!!

-TIRES
BRAND NEW Firestone Destination tires.  90%+ tread!

-WHEELS
The wheels are in great shape with no major flaws or curbing.  The Deep Dish look fantastic on the truck!

-MUDFLAPS
All 4 mudflaps intact and in great shape!  MOST Discos are missing at least one.  Not this beauty!

-SPARE TIRE COVER
Beautiful new black spare tire cover looks great and clean!

-GLASS
Not to let a pebble defeat this truck, the windshield is great shape!

-TRAILER HITCH
The Disco has a factory trailer hitch and is wired up and ready to tow.

Onto the cabin:

-SEATS
The Bahama Beige seats are fantastic!!!  There is NO tears, NO seams coming apart.  They are incredibly supportive with what feels like zero foam wear. The leather is SO soft.  The rears I'm pretty sure have never been used.  They are so soft and buttery!!

-DOOR PANELS
One of the big things with Discos is the top of the drivers side door panel gets cracked...not this one!  All of the panels are free of dents or major defects.

-HEADLINER
The headliner BRAND NEW.  OEM Rover headliners tend to sag over time due to poor glue.  Worry not with this brand new OEM color replacement!

-CARPET
Nice carpet in the truck.  There is a little wear on the passenger side trans tunnel, but no holes hidden by floor mats or issues!  That aside the carpet is very nice.  New rubber floor mats up front in great shape! Carpet floor mat in the rear is good shape with a few minor stains.

-POWER SEATS
All power seat functions work perfect!  Hard to find in a Discovery!

-HEATED SEATS
Heated seats work!!!!!!!  A huge rarity in a Disco!!!  Wonderful for those chilly nights!

-POWER LOCKS
All doors lock and unlock with central locking function.

-POWER WINDOWS
All windows work smooth and quickly!

-SUNROOF
Front AND rear sunroofs work great!

-RADIO/CD CHANGER
OEM radio has been changed and replaced with a Kenwood head unit and Focal speakers.  Sounds good!  Has a little hum at low volume but hard to hear once you turn the volume on.

-AC/HEAT
AC is ice cold and Heat is earth core hot!

-MIRRORS
Power mirrors work perfectly!

-WOOD
Nice wood on the console, doors and dash!

-STEERING WHEEL
The leather is very nice, no tears or issues!

-CARGO AREA
Cargo cover in place and operating (usually they are missing!).  Rear carpet is nice, with only minor flaws.  The cargo pockets are all intact and in nice shape!

-MISCELLANEOUS
The OEM roof rack bars are on the roof and the original jack and ramp are are the hood

The Experience
Driving this Discovery is fantastic. It is Lexus quiet inside, pulls and handles like a sports car and is as comfortable as a Rolls Royce.  Its got all the power it had from the factory and from even a little gas is torquey and responsive. I hope you can tell by my long ad that this truck is a great pre-owned and beautiful Land Rover.  It's tax season, treat yourself to this truck, that you will not have to dump TONS of money into in this NO RESERVE AUCTION!  There is well over $7k in recent scheduled and preventive service alone in this truck so you are ready to go another 100k+++ of care free miles.  Don't buy an unserviced truck for a little less than spend 2 times as much to get it to this level of service!

Feel free to ask me any questions at all.  Residents around the country I am happy to be flexible for your arranged shipper so that you can get your new truck as soon as possible.   CA residents, registration good until Jan 2015!

My standard disclaimer/mantra for any car regardless of service or price: The truck is sold with no warranty.  You are buying a used car.  Eventually every car will break, if you find one that doesn't please let me know.  I do my ABSOLUTE BEST to offer only cars that are of TOP NOTCH service.  I am not a dealer, just a guy who loves Rovers (among other cars) and hope to pass along my passion and fervor for these trucks.  That said if ever you encounter an issue I do my best to provide advice, direction or even parts if I have them.  Please understand that it is a used car and will have minor signs of use.  That means please do not expect a showroom brand new truck. Please adjust your expectation level to that of a 108,000 mile truck that however is well above average for its year.   This is very low miles for Discoveries of this year, but please just remember that no 108,000 mile truck is perfect cosmetically.  It is though a clean, very nice truck! Please only bid if you intend to buy.  If you would like to have eBay 3rd party mechanic service check out the truck I more than welcome it.  Please check your local laws and registration procedures before buying.  Please ask any and all questions ahead of purchase.  All sales are final, you are buying as-is, the sky is blue, etc, etc. Sorry to have to give the boring speech.

Please feel free to ask any and all questions!!

Happy Rover-trails!!!!

Jaguar Land Rover says key models in short supply, some have six-month wait lists

Fri, 08 Aug 2014

Care for a bit more proof that the Jaguar Land Rover portfolio of vehicles is the best it's ever been? Well, the Indian-owned pair of brands saw a record year in 2013, while 2014 has seen a 14-percent increase in sales. The crazy thing is, though, is that figure could be even higher, provided the company had the production capacity.
JLR is running a six-month waiting list on two of its most popular models, the Range Rover Sport (above) and Range Rover. According to Mark White, the company's chief technologist for body engineering, the blame can be placed on the paint shop at the company's Solihull factory, in the UK.
"We will probably max out the paint shop before we max out the body shop. Putting the second body shop in has given us the flexibility to ebb and flow the different models that go through there and meet the capacity demands we've got," White told Automotive News. "However, you always hit a bottleneck somewhere. And the paint shop is probably going to be the next biggest obstacle."

Jaguar Land Rover details JustDrive connectivity suite

Tue, 18 Nov 2014

JustDrive will allegedly deliver on the long-promised idea of natural communication between driver and car.
Jaguar Land Rover's all-new InControl system is set to get a big bump as the British company will add a new service called JustDrive, which expands on the smartphone-focused infotainment system by adding a singular voice controller for a wide array of the system's currently available apps.

This Or That: 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro vs. 1987 Land Rover Defender [w/poll]

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

As I scoured auction sites and classified ads for the perfect vehicle to take into battle with Autoblog Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, I knew I needed to find something unique. You see, I'm currently 0-2 at winning a round of This or That, in which two of our editors agree on a category, choose a side, and argue it out over a (mostly) friendly chain of emails.
The first time we did this, my chosen Fiat 500 Abarth took about a third of the popular vote in our reader poll. The second time, my lovely 1980 Oldsmobile 442 did just a little bit better against a 1989 BMW 635 CSi. Despite holding the opinion that my automotive choices, though perhaps a little bit more... obscure than my fellow editors, are still better, an outright win would go a long way toward boosting my vehicular self worth a few notches upward.
With all of that out of the way, even if three isn't my lucky number after all, I go into battle against Brandon knowing full well that I've made the perfect choice: A 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro. My rough-and-tumble van/'ute has a formidable opponent in the form of a 1987 Land Rover Defender, which, truth be told, is exactly what I was expecting from Turkus, a self-proclaimed Rover aficionado.
