 For Sale:
My (much loved) Land Rover Ninety (eBay doesn't distinguishe between Ninety/90/Defender, so apologies for any confusion), looking for a new home in the States.

This is officially a 'TRUCK, UTILITY, LIGHT GS, CARGO, SOFT TOP, 12V, 4X4 LHD LAND ROVER 90 DSL' (nsn 2320998938030) that was previously (military) registered as 56 KG 26 (VIN SALLDVAC8AA311665). Records requested from the UK Defence Logistics Organisation (Chilwell) show the vehicle spent the periods Aug 1988 to Aug 1990 in MT Storage with the Royal Air Force Germany, then on to RAF Decimomannu (Cyprus) until disposal in Oct 1996 - I bought her from MOD Disposal Agents, Witham (Specialist Vehicles) Ltd on 26th July 2000 and have owned her since.

I have a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificated factory record copy (cert # 2013/29871) listing the build date as 22 - 31 December 1987, making the old girl over 25 years young and therefore exempt from the Federal Regulations restriciting imports on older vehicles due to the safety and emissions laws... Plus, being LHD she is ready made for the wrong side of the road...

The listing states 100,867 miles - this is the nearest approximation to the 162334KM that is actually on the odometer  - and is believed to be genuine (Cyprus is a small island!!) as there was 27597 miles/44419KM on the clock when I bought her.

The Condition is comensurate with age - the paint has faded, the interior is a little scruffy (seats still original!) and there is some surface rust on the Chassis. She is mechanically sound and drives well (albeit noisy and bumpy - well, it is a Land Rover...) and the usual oil leaks (again, it is a Land Rover...!). The vehicle was used daily from August 2000 to March 2008 when we bought a 'proper' family car and the Landie was garaged, and returned to the road in Sept 2011 for daily use again.

On return to service she had a full service, new fuel tank, new brake hoses, front callipers resealed, rear brake pistons replaced and Brake and Clutch fluid flushed. Since I bought her, I have kept a Vehicle Log of every service event (including engine oil top-up's and annual emmisions test results) and every defect occured/rectified since Sept 2000 (first service entry - 10/09/00 full chassis/bulkhead waxoyl!). I also have every receipt/invoice spent on parts, etc.

I have added the following over the years:
Reverse lights (Geniuine parts gearbox swith and Loom, Mil-spec side lamps for the light units)
Black Mohair Soft-top (with side windows), hood frame painted gloss black.
Roof (spot), bumper (fog) and Rear (work) lights - all on custom made brackets and wired through guarded switches on the seat box side.
Silver 8-Spoke Steel wheels with BFG Radial All-Terrain's (265/75R16).
Custom fabricated (aluminium) side-opening tailgate.
Jackable sills/rocksliders.
Wright Off-Road Acoustic Mat system (moulded soundproofing) fitted to cab floor and seatbox.
E-Eng. Transmission brake Disc conversion.
Cabin bulkhead removed and replaced with custom fabricated (aluminium) bulkhead.
(also, not pictured, a folding forward-facing rear seat)

Sadly for sale now as the family is growing (and I'd like a Discovery 3...!)

Any questions or additional information required - please ask! Happy bidding!!

Please note - this vehicle currently lives in the UK! The successful bidder will need to arrange collection, shipping and import to the US - I can arrange delivery to Southampton Docks (if fuel expenses are covered). Funds to be cleared to UK account before arrangements are made.

Jaguar and Land Rover to consolidate dealerships

Thu, 29 Nov 2012

Jaguar and Land Rover are set to merge their sales facilities, according to Inside Line. Jaguar Land Rover North America President Andy Gross says 45 percent of Jaguar owners also have an SUV in their stable, so it makes sense to give customers as much exposure to the cat's high-riding cousins and possible. The number of overall outlets will remain the same, and the brands will reportedly remain separate on the showroom floor, however.
So far, just one dealer has made the move to combine under the roof of one 68,000 square-foot facility in Paramus, New Jersey (above), though a further 20 are ready to make the shift and become Jaguar Land Rover outlets. Gross believes the shift is necessary so that his company's dealer network will accurately reflect the company's products. We'll see how cozy the brands are when Jaguar starts rolling out its own SUVs in a few years.

Ford's J Mays feels vindicated by Fusion reception

Tue, 25 Sep 2012

It's hard to think back now, but the same man overseeing the design of the 2013 Ford Fusion also presided over a rather lackluster period in Ford design, highlighted by vehicles like the Five Hundred and Freestyle. With the redesigned Fusion receiving high praise, J Mays tells Automotive News that he feels vindicated from criticisms suggesting he's not a daring enough designer.
When Mays took over as lead of design in 1997, he admits to having quite an ego ("My head would barely fit through the door some days. I've long since gotten over myself") and the workload to match. With the Blue Oval's portfolio full of premium brands like Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo at that point, along with the bread-and-butter Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models, Mays certainly had quite the challenge.
It was in the mid-2000s that Mays took over just the premium brands, and took on the new title of Chief Creative Officer. At the time, Mays endured some criticism for looking backwards to retro styling, rather than setting a new standard for American car design - criticism that Mays says he is free from with the all-new Fusion.

European automakers gear up for Brazilian production

Mon, 07 Oct 2013

Brazil is the place to be, apparently. Toyota has been investing in the South American country, as has BMW, which announced a $261 million investment in October 2012, on the heels of an Audi factory announcement in San José Chiapa. The high-end immigration is only set to continue, as Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar-Land Rover have both announced plans to set up manufacturing operations there.
Mercedes is the big news here, as its new facility will see the German manufacturer invest 170-million euros for production of its next-generation C-Class and upcoming GLA-Class. "Brazil is an important future market. With our local production we accept the challenge and take on the competition," noted Andreas Renschler, Management Board member for Production and Procurement at Mercedes-Benz Cars and Mercedes-Benz Vans. Production is expected to begin by 2016.
Jaguar-Land Rover, meanwhile, isn't so concrete in its plans. The news of its investment in South America comes from a job posting for a plant quality manager in Brazil that was picked up by the UK's AutoCar. "Portuguese language skills will be definite advantage" for interested candidates, according to the job listing. The want ad follows on the heels of remarks by Jaguar Land Rover's Dr. Ralph Speth, who said there are "very intensive discussions" with Brazil's government. Unlike Mercedes, there's no mention of which vehicles will be produced in South America, although AutoCar thinks the Freelander, sold in the US as the LR2, is a leading contender.
