2003 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4x4 on 2040-cars

This is a 2003 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. 123,000 mles. new tires just put on this week. new pa. inspection. new exhaust,new steering stabilizer. I replaced the oil pan because it started showing signs of rust and didn't want trouble with it later. it is a 4.0l engine with a automatic trans. it has both hard and soft tops. the soft top has never been used and is still in the cover as you can see by the pic. the hard top has never been off. it is garage kept and has been about 95% of the time we have owned it. we bought it used from Car Sense with around 30,000 mile on it. The only time we used it the last couple years is in the winter for the 4 wheel drive does a great job of getting around inthe snow. it does have some minor issues. it has a small rear main seal leak has had it for years never was a big problem. I always did regular oil changes etc. so it never ran low on oil. just always checked the oil level. the clear coat on the wheels is just now starting to peel.also there is a little water leak at the door seals not alot. may need some new weather seals. it could use a detail job but over all is in good shape. inside is clean outside has no rust, paint is nice The Jeep is being sold AS IS I will be putting for sale signs in the window but am not listing it in the local papers. i will end the bidding early if someone buys it local. 2016 Jeep Wrangler to ditch solid axles to save weight?
Tue, 29 Oct 2013Hey, Jeep fans. If you think the idea of a funky-looking, car-based Cherokee revival is offensive, have a listen to what might be in store for the next-gen Jeep Wrangler. Automotive News is reporting that as Jeep develops the 2016 Wrangler, weight reduction is a crucial target, and the Wrangler's rugged solid axles could be sacrificed in the name of better fuel economy.
We've already heard the next Wrangler will go on a serious diet using aluminum body panels and an air suspension system, so the idea of a four-wheel independent suspension setup for this OG SUV isn't all that surprising. Besides, it's not like an independent suspension would limit the Wrangler's off-road abilities - just check out the Hummer H1. In fact, it might be the aftermarket parts companies - not Wrangler enthusiasts - who would be most disappointed by such a drastic suspension change, as the article states that the Wrangler's solid axles and coil-link suspension make it the most popular SUV for customization.
There are probably still a couple years before we'll start hearing any concrete details about the 2016 Wrangler, at which time it will be interesting to see how stricter fuel economy and crash safety regulations have been balanced with traditional Wrangler cues like its removable doors and roof and folding windshield. NHTSA still mulling crash tests for recalled Jeeps
Thu, 15 Aug 2013Well, no one should ever accuse the government of not giving things plenty of thought. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is still debating whether it will retest any of the 1.56 million 1992 to 1998 Grand Cherokees and 2002 to 2007 Libertys that were part of a recall regarding fires after rear-end collisions. And yes, this debate has been going on for over a month. In other news...
The recall dustup started in early June, when Chrysler took the unusual position of refusing a recall request from NHTSA regarding placement of the fuel tank on the effected vehicles. NHTSA said a collision could cause a fire, a position Chrysler took issue with. Extensive negotiations ensued, with Chrysler agreeing to fit certain Jeeps with trailer hitches, which it said would provide some protection to fuel tanks mounted behind the rear axle in the event of a collision.
Part of the issue rests with the amount of data that needs to be processed, according to The Detroit News. NHTSA administrator David Strickland said during a Washington Auto Press Association meeting, "There's a lot of data and Chrysler is being very cooperative in giving us more data." Until that information has been sorted, it looks like re-testing will still be up for debate.
Jeep sets all-time sales record in 2012
Wed, 09 Jan 2013Last year was good to Jeep. Chrysler has announced its trail-rated brand set an all-time global sales record in 2012 by moving 701,626 units. That number easily surpasses the previous record set in 1999 when Jeep sold 675,494 models. All told, the brand saw a 19-percent sales increase worldwide over 2011, and much of that swell can be traced directly to the Wrangler. While the Grand Cherokee led Jeep sales, the Wrangler posted record numbers both globally and within the US, moving 194,142 and 141,669 units in each market, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Compass beat its previous global sales record with 103,321 units rolling off of dealer lots. In the US, Jeep sold 62,010 Patriot units, breaking that model's previous record as well. Jeep's impressive performance in 2012 marks the second year in a row the brand has seen double-digit percentage sales increases. Check out the full press release below.
