Jeep Cj5 1979 For Parts on 2040-cars
Tucson, Arizona, United States
Jeep CJ5 1979 for Parts This
auction is for a 1979 Jeep CJ5 for parts or possibly restoration. This was my
daily driver for a few years until I parked it about 10 or 12 years ago. It’s
sat since then. During
the time that I drove it, I rebuilt the clutch, did a valve job then put in a
rebuilt engine. It has the AMC 258 c.i. (4.2 L) straight six engine. It has a
stock T150 three-speed transmission and I never had any problems with it, the
transfer case, diffs or axles. The disclaimer is that it has sat untouched for
10 or 12 years. I can’t guarantee what kind of shape anything is in now. I parked
it because I always had trouble getting it to pass emissions testing. A mechanic
told me that it needed a new carburetor and catalytic converter. I removed the
carb and exhaust system past the manifold, and then stopped working on it. Like
most old CJs, this one has some rust including a small hole in the driver’s
side floor. The carburetor and the exhaust are long gone and not part of this
auction. The power steering and smog pumps are disconnected. I believe that the pumps are there, but I’m not sure about all the brackets. It has a shackle lift kit, the seats and seat
brackets are junk and the top is gone. The tires are dry rotted, but they
currently hold air. It
will need to be towed, preferably on a rollback tow truck. I will not ship it or arrange shipping.
If you
have any questions, please ask, but don’t wait until the last moment. |

Chrysler delays 2014 Jeep Cherokee media launch
Tue, 30 Jul 2013Chrysler is making the unusual move of delaying the first media drives of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, which were slated to start next week in Seattle. And while something like this is a rare occurrence, and one that most of the Autoblog staff can't recall happening this publicly or so close to the event itself, it won't effect the actual on-sale date of the new Cherokee, which is set to hit showrooms in September.
"Over the last couple of weeks during final quality and durability testing, we have discovered the opportunity to further improve powertrain calibration," Chrysler told Automotive News. This marks the second notable delay in the Cherokee's short life, after production was delayed for roughly a month earlier this summer.
Still, we'd rather Chrysler make sure the Cherokee is ready for primetime before flying media in from around the country. It shows a willingness to get things right the first time, rather than offering media drives and then tweaking the car after the fact.
Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango to lose color options temporarily
Wed, 19 Nov 2014In the market for a Jeep Grand Cherokee or Dodge Durango? Well, if you fancy a more expressive color for your new SUV, you'd better get your order in, or plan on waiting until well into 2015.
The SUVs will be limited to just four monochromatic shades - black, white, silver and gray - until at least February, thanks to an upgrade to the paint shop at the two vehicles' Jefferson North factory. For the Grand Cherokee, that means it's losing more than half its color palette while the Durango is dropping two-thirds of its color catalog.
The loss of colors is inconvenient, but the upgrade will have a slightly bigger effect on the overall supply of SUVs, as Chrysler will need to end its relentless build pace at the factory for a three-week shutdown starting on December 22. The good news for fans of the SUVs is that once the work is completed, we should see a gradual expansion of the color palettes for both the Durango and Grand Cherokee, beyond even what's offered now.
Jeep Wrangler Polar Edition coming to America
Wed, 23 Oct 2013Jeep originally took the wraps off its Polar Edition Wrangler at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and at the time, we figured this would be a Europe-only affair. (Perfectly fine, since we US customers haven't exactly been lacking special edition Wrangler models over the years.) But now, and as Jeep says, just in time for winter, the automaker has announced that the ice cold Wrangler will be hitting North American showrooms in November.
Based on the Wrangler Sahara model, the Polar Edition can be had in either two- or four-door body styles, with a unique Hydro Blue paint job as the featured color. (Buyers can also opt for less-special Billet Silver and Bright White hues.) Other exterior enhancements include a body-colored hardtop, 18-inch gloss black wheels, the Powerdome (power bulge) hood, and unique decals all around the body.
But the Polar Edition isn't just about some paint and stickers. Jeep has fitted this Wrangler with a Dana 30 front axle and Dan 44 rear axle, as well as the Trac-Lok anti-spin electronic rear differential. Like all US-spec Wranglers, the Polar Edition uses Jeep's 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, producing 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Both a six-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmission are available.
