1981 Jeep Cj-5 Renegade Unrestored Original Survivor Cj! 99k Miles Perfect Body! on 2040-cars
Birmingham, Alabama, United States
You are viewing a super solid and all original1981 CJ-5 Renegade. This Jeep was purchased new at Tupelo Datsun/American Motors in Tupelo, Mississippi. The original MSRP was $9479.00. Optional equipment is as follows, Renegade package, 258 6 cylinder engine, rear traction lock differential, power steering, power front disc brakes, tilt steering wheel, blue denim soft top, and draw bar with hitch. This CJ still wears its original Olympic white paint, Renegade stripes/decals, and blue denim Whitco soft top! It truly is an unbelievable survivor that has been untouched by its only two owners. The body is rock solid with no rust repair ever. It is laser straight too with no dents anywhere! The paint is 33 years old but still looks amazing! It is very obvious that this Jeep has been garaged and pampered its entire life! Even the original Whitco soft top looks great! There is absolutely no evidence of previous accident damage, rust repair, patch panels, bonds, etc. this Jeep really is beautiful. You could search for years and years and still not find a CJ that is this original and clean!
Mechanically, this Jeep is super sound. It has just 99K miles from new but could pass for a Jeep with half the miles. It starts up easily and runs absolutely perfect. The motor sounds super smooth and does not run hot, knock, tick, etc. it pulls strong through the gears and is a pleasure to drive. The T 176 4 speed transmission shifts perfectly and the 4WD works as it should. The alternator, starter, solenoid, battery cables, etc. are new. I have a receipt for the tires when they were purchased by the original owner back in 1990! They now have about 23K miles on them and are still in good shape. Absolutely everything works on this Jeep including the lights, gauges, turn signals, wipers, horn, heater, blower motor, etc. The Jeep drives down the road nice and straight and is super quiet too. Again, this is as nice of an unrestored time capsule CJ-5 as you will ever find for my reserve price. I have the original owners manual, books, window sticker, service records, bikini top, top parade boot, jack, etc. If you have been searching for a beautiful unmolested Jeep then you've found it. Now is your chance to own this appreciating classic. Many of my auctions end with just a phone call. I can arrange shipping worldwide. 205-276-1918. |

Jeep Cherokee Trail Carver is a more rugged Trailhawk
Wed, 06 Nov 2013We briefly mentioned the Jeep Cherokee Trail Carver that was heading to SEMA last week when discussing the Mopar lineup set to be shown in Las Vegas. At the time, though, we weren't able to dive too deeply into details. But with SEMA in full swing, we were able to sneak over and grab some snaps of one of the first modified Cherokees we've seen. The Cherokee is, after all, kind of an unknown quantity in the modification department, being so new and featuring such a polarizing design. We were quite interested to see what Mopar could come up with.
Starting with the Trailhawk 4x4 and its 3.2-liter V6, the engine is fitted with a Mopar cold-air intake and a new exhaust, although it's not clear what sort of power boost has resulted. We'll admit, we were hoping Jeep and Mopar would get a bit more aggressive with the Cherokee's suspension (has anyone thrown a few-inch lift on the new Jeep yet?), but there's no mention of upgrades beyond the knobby, off-road tires. Those should do some good when the going gets rough, while rock rails are there to protect the Auburn Pearl paint on the body.
Speaking of that paint, it's complemented by an interesting graphics package in contrasting black and Crush Orange. The cabin sports Katzkin Amaretto leather seats, along with tech-friendly items like a wireless charging system for cellphones and wireless internet.
Chrysler recalling hundreds of thousands of Jeep Grand Cherokee and Commander SUVs
Wed, 23 Jul 2014The public might associated ignition switch recalls with General Motors - and with good cause - but that's not the only automaker calling its vehicles back in to fix that sort of issue.
Last month we reported that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was investigating an array of Chrysler Group vehicles for electrical-related safety issues. The administration and Chrysler subsequently issued a recall for 700,000 Dodge Journey crossovers, Dodge Grand Caravan minivans and Chrysler Town & Country minivans. But while the Jeeps that were also under investigation were not covered in that recall, they are being addressed in a separate one now.
Although Chrysler reports that it is only aware of a single accident stemming from this issue, it is "committing now to conduct a recall out of an abundance of caution." The recall affects the 2006-2007 Jeep Commander and 2005-2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee, of which it reports there are 792,300 on the road: 649,900 in the United States, 28,800 in Canada, 12,800 in Mexico and a further 100,800 outside of North America.
Fiesta-sized Jeep coming in 2014
Wed, 03 Jul 2013We've heard rumors before about a new, baby Jeep to slot below the new-for-2014 Cherokee (pictured) in the automaker's lineup. Now, Edmunds is reporting that the new crossover will arrive sometime in 2014, and will be about the same size as the Ford Fiesta. This currently unnamed vehicle will effectively replace both the Compass and Patriot in the Jeep lineup.
Speaking to Edmunds, Jeep CEO Mike Manley said that the new, small Jeep will be assembled in Italy and marketed globally beginning sometime next year. Manley did not provide many details on the new model, but did say that it will be 4.2-meters (165 inches) long. The Cherokee, by comparison, is 4.6-meters long (181 inches). Furthermore, Edmunds reports that while the new small Jeep will offer diesel power in other markets, there are no plans for an oil-burning version here in the US.
Many other automakers are exploring this smaller crossover segment here in the US. General Motors recently launched the Buick Encore, which is loosely based on the Chevrolet Sonic subcompact's platform. Ford has already launched its Fiesta-based EcoSport in other markets, and has reportedly been pondering the idea of offering it in the US, as well.
