Infiniti QX70 is fini, for now

We knew it first as the FX, debuting in 2003 as a bulgingly macho SUV/crossover thing with an impossibly long hood. It was quick and powerful, and lower-slung than typical SUVs, more like a tall wagon. Infiniti later dialed the cartoonishness of it back a few notches and started calling it the QX70. Now, the QX70 is going to take a little break, disappearing from the lineup for a few years while QX50 and QX80 redesigns are rolled out. The QX70 is sporty, with a 325-horsepower 3.7-liter V6. But it's an aging model and a bit of a slow seller - last year, Infiniti moved one-seventh as many QX70s as it did its kid-hauling cousin the QX60 - which seats more people (seven, to the QX70's five) and is less expensive. The QX70 was once popular like that, selling 30,964 as the FX in 2004. But that was long, long ago. Last year it sold 6,261. The QX70 nameplate is expected to be back in 2021 or 2022, in a redesign based on the Nissan Murano and built at Nissan's plant in Canton, Miss. 2021 Infiniti Q60 starts at $42,675

The 2021 Infiniti Q60 coupe starts at $42,675 (including $1,025 for destination), Nissan's luxury subsidiary announced today. The two-door variant of Infiniti's compact sport sedan boasts only a handful of relatively minor equipment changes for the '21 model year.  The base (Pure) Q60 now has blind spot monitoring, rear automatic emergency braking, surround-view camera, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and automatic high beams as standard equipment. The high-output Red Sport model gains available power-folding outside mirrors and a tweaked carbon fiber interior trim package.  Apart from that and two new paint colors — Slate Gray and Grand Blue — the Q60 is otherwise unchanged for 2021. Infiniti pared down the Q50 sedan and Q60 coupe lineups fairly comprehensively for the 2019 model year, stripping out some trims and the base, four-cylinder engine option in order to streamline its hierarchy. Only the 3.0t Pure, 3.0t Luxe and Red Sport models remain. Also gone are 2020's Edition 30 models, which celebrated Infiniti's three-decade anniversary, but customers can easily patch together the same builds from 2021's available options. Infiniti's consumer site has been updated with 2021 models, and customers can expect them to arrive in showrooms before the end of the year.  Related Video:

Infiniti announces pricing for 2014 QX60 and QX70

With the exception of the G37, customers walking into Infiniti showrooms this summer are going to see a bunch of different names pop up as the automaker switches to its new Q-for-car and QX-for-crossover/SUV naming convention for 2014. The first of these renamed models are the 2014 QX60 (which replaces the JX) starting at $41,550* and the 2014 QX70 (which replaces the FX) priced at $44,950* (*prices do not include $995 for destination), and both are on sale now.
Compared to the outgoing models, the new QX60 (seen above, click to enlarge) lineup starts $300 more than the outgoing JX models (base and AWD), while pricing for the QX70 will remain the same as the trio of 2013 FX models (FX37, FX37 AWD and FX50).
