RARE 289 SPECIAL ENGINE 3 SPEED ON THE COLUMN DUAL OUT SIDE MIRRORS AFTER MARKET RADIO HEATER NEW FLOW MASTER DUAL EXHAUST JACK AND SPARE FENDER SKIRTS AVAILABLE RUNS NICE JUST DID THE FUEL SYSTEM AND CHECKED OUT THE BRAKES. IT WILL DRIVE AWAY, BUT I WOULD HAVE SOME CONCERNS WITH THE OLD BIAS PLY TIRES, DATED IN THE 1968 ERA. THE ENGINE IS GREAT, VERY SMOOTH, NO SMOKE NO LEAKS, STARTS QUICKLY AFTER SITTING A DAY OR TWO. IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING THE 289 CAME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE YEAR FOR THIS MODEL, MUCH LIKE THE MUSTANG SAME VINTAGE. I ASSUME THAT'S WHY IT'S CALLED "289 SPECIAL" MOST WERE 260 ENGINES. THE CLUTCH HAS SOME CHATTER, I'M HAVING IT CHECKED OUT FIRST OF NEXT WEEK. IT GOES THROUGH THE GEARS VERY WELL, AND IF YOU TAKE OFF EASY IT'S NO ISSUE. REAR END IS STOCK 300 RATIO FLOORS, MOUNTS, BRACES, TRUNK PAN ARE ROCK SOLID ORIGINAL. MILES ARE BELIEVED TO BE 35000 HARD DASH IS NICE, STEERING WHEEL IS GOOD, NORMAL FOR THE PAINT TO WEAR OFF UNLESS THE INTERIOR WAS BLACK, NO CRACKS ETC. ALL GLASS IS ORIGINAL, SIDE TRIM IS ALL GOOD, BUMPERS ARE PEELING, BUT NOT ROTTEN. THE FRONT SEAT WAS REDONE SOME TIME BACK IN THE PROPER MATERIAL, MUCH BRIGHTER THAN THE REAR SEAT. BUMPERS HAVE SURFACE RUST, BUT NOT ROTTEN. THE PAINT IS ORIGINAL, UT THE OLD GUY HAD ACCESS TO SOME RATTLE CANS, AND TRIED TO TOUCH UP SOME AREAS, I THINKI IT'S POSSIBLE TO WIPE OFF THE NEW, AND KEEP THE OLD UNDERNEATH. THE FAIRLANE NEEDS A RESTORATION, OR DRIVE IT AS IS WITH ALL THE PATINA IN PLACE. A SET OF WHEELS WITH THE OLD PAINT SEEMS TO BE THE CURRENT TREND. ALSO A THUNDER BOLT CLONE IS POSSIBLE. THAT SEEMS TO BE THE LATEST TREND!!!! IF YOU NEED HELP WITH TRANSPORT I MAY BE ABLE TO HELP, I MAKE REGULAR TRIPS SOUTH OF CINCINNATI OHIO THROUGHT WV,VA, KY, TN, NC, SC, GA, AND NORTHERN FL. Ford using robot drivers to test durability [w/video]
Sun, 16 Jun 2013In testing the durability of its upcoming fullsize Transit vans, Ford has begun using autonomous robotic technology to pilot vehicles through the punishing courses of its Michigan Proving Grounds test facility. The autonomous tech allows Ford to run more durability tests in a single day than it could with human drivers, as well as create even more challenging tests that wouldn't be safe to run with a human behind the wheel.
The technology being used was developed by Utah-based Autonomous Solutions, and isn't quite like the totally autonomous vehicles being developed by companies like Google and Audi for use out in the real world. Rather, Ford's autonomous test vehicles follow a pre-programmed course and their position is tracked via GPS and cameras that are being monitored from a central control room. Though the route is predetermined, the robotic control module operates the steering, acceleration and braking to keep the vehicle on course as it drives over broken concrete, cobblestones, metal grates, rough gravel, mud pits and oversize speed bumps.
Scroll down to watch the robotic drivers in action, though be warned that you're headed for disappointment if you expect to see a Centurion behind the wheel (nerd alert!). The setup looks more like a Mythbusters experiment than a scene from Battlestar Galactica.
Ford dinged by OSHA for asbestos at Buffalo plant
Sat, 20 Jul 2013Ford has come under fire from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for violations regarding asbestos exposure in a company metal stamping plant in Buffalo, NY. OSHA has cited Ford for eight violations in total, according to an Automotive News report, and faces fines of up to $41,800. 537 workers are employed at the stamping facility.
The violations include a pipefitter at the facility being exposed to asbestos-containing material while working on a steam line, other workers exposed to the material without respiratory protection and work areas that were not designed to limited the number of workers in contact with asbestos. Further, areas in which asbestos was present were not properly restricted, and levels of asbestos in the air were not monitored.
According to an unnamed Ford spokesperson in the AN report, the company feels that the OSHA citation is erroneous saying, "We have fully cooperated with the local OSHA officials and we don't believe the citations are warranted." Ford also maintains that it will work with the authorities to resolve the issue.
2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty Power Stroke
Tue, 29 Jul 2014What weighs 30,000 pounds? Big Ben's Westminster bell. A navy ship anchor. Or as we found out during our first drive program for the 2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty, seven pallets of cinder blocks loaded onto a dual-axle gooseneck trailer. The test was part of a raft of towing demonstrations that showcased the new Super Duty's impressive tug capacity, which maxes out at 32,100 pounds. That's 1,200 more than its nearest rival, the Ram 3500, when equipped with its upgraded 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8. Such is the heavy-duty pickup truck business, a diesel-fueled game of one-upmanship with only three players: Ford, Chevrolet/GMC and Ram. And in this game, the one with the most torque wins.
Until 2014, Ford was the one to beat, with its 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel bringing 400 hp and a massive 800 lb-ft of torque to the table. Then last year, Ram did exactly that, serving Ford with a beefed-up Cummins turbodiesel inline-six in its freshened Ram Heavy Duty truck line with 385 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque, enabling it to tow up to 30,000 pounds. But Ford claims it had designed its engine to be relatively easy to upgrade when the time called for it, so for 2015, Ford bolted a larger turbo to the Power Stroke, bringing output to an insane 440 hp and 860 lb-ft of twist, all without reducing fuel efficiency. Maximum tow capacity rises from 24,700 lbs to an incredible 31,200 lbs for the F-450 dually.
As for GM's HDs? They lag behind the lot with their 6.6-liter Duramax V-8, producing 397 hp and 765 lb-ft of torque. Yeah, you know things are serious when the trucks with 765 lb-ft are the knock-kneed wimps of the lot.
