For sale this week I have a 1956 Ford F-100 pickup truck. I consider this an original survivor because it has never been painted, and is running and driving well with it's original 272 Y-block engine and 3-speed manual transmission. The truck had been parked for 6 years when I acquired it. With a new Holley carb, and full tuneup, it cranked and ran beautifully. The brakes were a bit weak so I rebuilt the entire brake system to include new master cylinder, metal brake lines, all rubber hoses, new wheel cylinders and new brake shoes. The clutch is excellent and does not shake when released. This truck can be parked months at a time and it instantly cranks. I also installed a new battery several months ago. It is a 12 volt charging system that is charging while running. The tires on the truck are in good condition and are road worthy. The mileage was told to me to be correct, at only 47000, but I have no documentation to that effect. I do believe the mileage to be correct because there is very little wear on the original pedals, seat springs are still firm, steering is nice and tight, transmissions shifts smoothly with no slop in the shifter. Since no repairs have ever been made to the body, there are no surprises hidden under body and paintwork. The bed retains the original wood (some of it). So many of these trucks end up with some sort of metal flooring welded in over top of the wood, but not this one. This truck needs a complete restoration, but is a great start that can be driven and enjoyed now and while the restoration is performed. This has always been a North Carolina truck. I reserve the right to end this auction at any time in the event of a local sale. Buyer is responsible for moving the truck to it's new home. Thanks for looking. Truck is sold as is.

Ford shows off V8-powered Ranger headed to Dakar Rally

Tue, 30 Jul 2013

Avert your eyes now if you're jealous that the global version of the Ford Ranger is not offered in the US. Ford's midsize pickup is being tuned up to take on the 2014 Dakar Rally, and the result is a truck that is probably even cooler than any F-150 SVT Raptor we've ever seen in the States. Ford is actually building two versions of the truck for Dakar, which will run from January 5 through January 18, covering more than 5,000 miles from Argentina to Chile.
Starting with a fully composite body and a 5.0-liter V8 plucked from a Mustang, nearly every aspect of the trucks have been purpose built to take on the grueling race. This includes things like the six-speed sequential gearbox, liquid-cooled rear brakes and the 132-gallon fuel tank. As proof that Dakar is more about endurance than speed, the engines used in these race trucks will be limited to around 350 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, and will max out at a top speed of just 105 miles per hour. Scroll down for Ford's official press release offering more information about the trucks and teams being prepped for Dakar.

Ford invests $682 million in Edge-producing Canadian facility

Sun, 22 Sep 2013

Ford announced that it's investing $682 million in its Oakville assembly plant in Ontario, Canada, to make it a global manufacturing plant, which the automaker also says secures 2,800 jobs there. Including this injection of cash, Ford has invested over $2 billion in Canada in the last decade, starting with nearly $1 billion for Oakville in 2004, and over $570 million for its Essex Engine Plant in 2010.
The move to make Oakville a global manufacturer of Ford vehicles means, "If consumers suddenly shift their buying habits, we can seamlessly change our production mix without having to idle a plant," says Joe Hinrichs, Ford's president of the Americas.
Ford says that the latest investment will help it meet North American demand for the Oakville-produced Edge crossover, which is on track this year to beat 2007's US sales record of 130,000 Edges. The Ford Flex and Lincoln MKX and MKT are also manufactured at the plant.

Shelby American cleans house of 14 concept cars

Wed, 25 Jun 2014

Typically when an automaker rolls out a concept car or pre-production prototype, it does its tour and then disappears into the company's archives. Maybe it will be displayed for the public to see in the company's own museum or maybe it will spend most of its time under covers in a warehouse somewhere, but every once in a while, an automaker will open up its history and start selling off its concept cars. For Shelby American, "once in a while" has just rolled around.
The House that Carroll Built is moving from its previous headquarters at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to a new facility off of the Las Vegas strip, and in the process is liquidating fourteen of the rarest cars in its collection. That presents a tremendous opportunity for muscle car collectors to bring one or more of these snakes home.
As you might expect, the catalog is composed mostly of Mustangs, but not exclusively. There's a pair of 289 Cobras: the last of the 50th anniversary slab-sided continuation cars and an original development vehicle, offered at $200,000 apiece. At the other end of the spectrum you'll find the 2013 Shelby Raptor concept for $125k and Focus concept for $50k. And of course there are the Mustangs.
