This 240z is in really nice condition. It was repainted with a good driver quality pearl white that really looks great under the sun. The body is extremely straight without any dents or noticeable scratches, however; there are a few minor niks here and there, but nothing of major concern. There are only two small dings on the entire body and they are very, very faint. There is one area where the paint has bubbled right underneath the gas cap as shown in the photos, it is very small. While the outside was repainted, the door jambs, engine compartment and the rear hatch were untouched. The door jambs do have some paint that chipped off and they show some surface rust which has been treated with POR 15. This is a fairly easy fix. The frame and the floors are solid. I do have the front and rear bumpers along with the original grille that will come with the car. I just prefer the Z aesthetically without the bumpers. The grille is in very good condition as is the rear bumper, however; the front bumper is pitted and could use a little restoration. The front and rear window seals have seen better days and are looking a little tatty and should be replaced eventually. The interior is in real nice shape. The seats are original and have zero tears and look great. The dash has one small crack just above the three pod gauge cluster and all the gauges are in good operating order except for the clock. The carpets are in good condition with really the only wear showing right behind the pedals. The rear hatch panels do have some cracking, but it's not terrible and is something that I would replace eventually. The headliner is excellent. All lights, turn signals and wipers are in working order as well and comes with an after market radio. The car mechanically is in excellent condition. The numbers matching engine starts right up and runs very strong. It accelerates effortlessly without any hesitation. It has had all smog equipment removed and has been upgraded with weber carbs, headers and exhaust. This Z sounds awesome. The car has been lowered about an inch and handles tight. The front tires have lots of tread remaining, but the rear tires should be replaced soon. The brakes work as they should and the original 4 speed transmission shifts nice and smooth and is very engaging. Overall this is a very nice Z that looks great and can be driven daily and enjoyed right off the bat. It would be a very easy and inexpensive restoration when your budget permits or you could just leave it as is and enjoy. I've described the car to the best of my abilities , but please keep in mind that this car is over 40 years old. Please ask any and all questions before placing any bids if you have any concerns. There is a $500 deposit due within 72 hours of the end of auction with the balance due in 7 days in cash or cashiers check. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, I will assist with the loading of the vehicle. The vehicle is sold as is, where is with no warranty expressed or implied.

Renault planning a Tata Nano rival. Again.

Wed, 28 Nov 2012

Four years ago, Renault confirmed that it would partner with India's Bajaj Auto to develop a rival to the Tata Nano. At the time, as everyone waited for the Tata Nano to arrive, you could have used a Richter scale to measure the tremors the executive suites of any automaker with an interest in the low end of emerging markets. Then the Nano, still the cheapest car in the world, didn't sell so well - at the end of last year its sales were just six percent of its most conservative projections - and everyone seemed content to let Tata spend the money to figure out if there really was a market for the cheapest car in the world.
Renault believes there is, kind of. Automotive News Europe reports that it will partner with Nissan to build two low-priced cars for emerging markets, one for €3,000 ($3,888 U.S.) and another for €5,000 ($6,400 U.S.). The price of the least expensive offering is nearly $1,400 more than a Nano, which costs $2,500, and that can't be considered a small sum in comparison. But one of the hindsight knocks on the Nano has been that even in emerging markets buyers don't want a car whose biggest lure is that it is cheap; they'd rather give their aspirations a bit more of a workout.
Renault's offerings are scheduled to hit the non-Western market in late 2014, which is coincidentally the same year that will see the return of the budget-minded and emerging-market-specific Datsun nameplate. They'll be built in Renault facilities in Chennai, India, with no mention made of Bajaj this time around.

Datsun Redi-Go is reborn brand's first concept car [w/video]

Wed, 05 Feb 2014

Nissan's plan for its reborn Datsun sub-brand just got a shot in the arm, as the emerging-market manufacturer has unveiled its first concept car since its resurrection back in 2012. Called the Redi-Go Concept, it looks like a high-riding version of Datsun's recently launched Go hatchback that's been fitted with a few concept car cues (not a bad thing).
The Redi-Go packs LED taillights, Datsun's "D-cut grille" and LED running lights into its Go-inspired body. Funky two-tone 15-inch wheels add a bit of cheek to the overall design, and in our minds look quite good, despite being so small. The ruggedized front and rear bumpers, as well as the sill and wheel arch surrounds add to the Redi-Go's rough-and-tumble aesthetic. We like that Datsun has kept the overall package short, giving the Redi-Go a 92.5-inch wheelbase, rather than creating a lifted version of the upcoming Go+. There are no specific mentions of the Redi-Go's mechanicals, although we'd wager that a production model might share the 1.2-liter engine and five-speed manual found in the standard Go.
While it might be easy to dismiss a concept like the Redi-Go in America, there's no denying its importance to the Indian market, which is decidedly more limited when it comes to available bodystyles. "If we were to make a car like Datsun Redi-Go Concept it would be a segment creator in India, an aspirational car that at the same time is attainable, a car that would be within reach of the first time buyer. This concept shows how serious we are about reinvigorating the market by catering for the needs of a growing class of Indians who have the chance to own a family car that will enable them to enjoy a new sense of independence," said Vincent Cobee, the global head of Datsun.

This father and son duo terrorize the UK countryside in Datsun 240Z pair

Wed, 12 Nov 2014

The Datsun 240Z got a lot of things right when it was introduced, with handsome styling, strong performance and a reasonably affordable price. And while the coupes grew a strong fan base in the US, they remained quite a rarity in the UK. Decades later, a father and son in England have latched onto the car and bonded over their shared love for two completely opposite takes on this Japanese GT
There's already quite a collection of exotics in Mel Streek's garage, and his rat rod 240Z, which he calls the Ratsun, definitely doesn't fit with the rest. On the outside, the Datsun looks ready to fall apart, but it's mechanically perfect underneath. Alternatively, Mel's son, Ollie, has a completely different take for his Z with its perfect, shining paint.
Both Zs sound amazing, though. They have a mechanical, somewhat course exhaust note that's intoxicating to hear. You can definitely tell there's some work going on under the hood. Check out this video from Petrolicious for a father and son who both find something to love in these classic Japanese coupes.
