Fiat Chrysler global HQ lands in London's ultra-posh West End

Thu, 18 Sep 2014

It seems Fiat is bent on bolstering its image as a global automaker, as word has leaked out that the Italian/American conglomerate has chosen to locate its global headquarters in a rather swanky neighborhood in London. According to Bloomberg, the rental location on St. James Street in London's West End is a 10-minute walk from Buckingham Palace, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will fill up three complete floors of an office building that also houses The Economist magazine.
As a neutral location between Italy and the United States, the London-based headquarters makes sense, though, at $277 per square foot, this area is said to be the most expensive office space in the world. There's no mention of what FCA has actually agreed to pay for renting the space, but we're certain it isn't coming cheap.
Not surprisingly, Bloomberg also cites research indicating that the largest number of immigrants moving into London from January through August of this year hail from Italy, which makes sense considering the number of Italian executives and workers we'd expect would have to relocate to the UK in order to work at Fiat's new home. The company reportedly plans to be in place in London by the time it holds its next round of board meetings in October.

Treasury says auto bailout tally drops to $20.3 billion

Tue, 12 Feb 2013

In December, the US Treasury announced that it was going to sell all of its shares in General Motors within 12 to 15 months. The first tranche of the 500-million total shares was purchased by GM, which took 200 million of them at $27.50 per share. That price represents an eight-percent premium over the market price at the time. The remaining 300 million shares will be sold "through various means in an orderly fashion."
Of the $418 billion disbursed through the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), a report in Automotive News indicates that "about 93 percent" has been paid back, and the latest figures put Treasury's loss from the program overall at $55.58 billion. That's a $4.1 billion improvement on the last figure, when the expected red ink added up to $59.68 billion. The auto industry's portion of that loss is estimated to be $20.3 billion, a 16-percent drop from the earlier estimate of $24.3 billion.
The Treasury now owns 19 percent of GM, but if all goes well, there will be no more cause for anyone to utter "Government Motors" by the end of Q1 next year. A loss of some kind is still expected, however. Although GM's stock price is close to $29 at the time of this writing, that's still $4 below its IPO price and well below the $72 share price necessary for the government to come out even on its GM investment. On second thought, maybe the ribbing will continue.

Chrysler highlights Mopar lineup for SEMA

Wed, 30 Oct 2013

SEMA is all about aftermarket parts, and in Auburn Hills that all comes down to one name: Mopar. After having previewed its lineup for this year's Vegas tuner expo earlier this month, Chrysler has now revealed what may not quite be its full dossier of modified show cars, but a good portion of them.
All told Mopar is preparing 20 vehicles for display at SEMA this year. Among them you'll find the Ram Sun Chaser, a 1500 Quad Cab show truck kitted out in two-tone orange and black paint, a roof rack for surfboards, onboard shower and convertible tailgate. The white Fiat 500L is called the Adventurer and is modified for a more rugged look that could hint at the upcoming crossover version. The Jeep Cherokee Trail Carver upgrades on the Trailhawk package with everything from roof basket to rock rails. To counterbalance the off-roaders, there's also a modified Chrysler 300S with a deep black paint job, special grille, Varvatos-edition wheels and more.
All four concepts details so far have Katzkin interiors as well, and there's also an unspecified Dodge Durango with a storm-trooper look in the gallery above. But for more details on what Mopar has installed on the Ram, 500L, Cherokee and 300, you'll want to delve into the press release below.

DESCRIPTION
After World War II, Chrysler jumped back into production with very few modifications to their model lineup and available body styles. For this same reason, the dependable 323ci L-Head 8 cylinder remained the power plant for the top-of-the-line models. With a gorgeous shape featuring long, curved fender feeding into the doors, split screen windshield, triple bumper guards, and a harmonica-style grille highlighting the front, these impressive cars made quite a presence going down the road!

We are delighted to offer this rare 1948 Chrysler New Yorker Club Coupe finished in Polo Green with matching Green cloth interior! Produced from 1946-1948, only 10,735 of these examples were ever made during the short 3 year run. With an original list price at $2,410 in 1948, it measured a 127.5” wheelbase and weighed in at 3,937 pounds, making them wonderful road-going cruisers! Powered by its original 323.5ci Inline 8 cylinder engine and the durable Fluid Drive 4-speed semi-automatic transmission, it produced an ideal 135 factory-rated horsepower. Additional options include factory turn signals, push-button AM radio with station presets & tone control, dual windshield spot lights, dual outside rearview mirrors, trip odometer, rear reverse light, hooded exhaust tip, interior courtesy/map lights, MOPAR Model 54/55 heater & defrost system, vacuum wipers, correct front & rear bumper guards, center-mounted trunk brake light, cowl vent, and whitewall tires!

This example hails from a life spent in California and Arizona since new! It was beautifully restored to include a fully rebuilt engine & transmission, along with resealed rear axle! This includes all motor & transmission mounts, hoses & clamps, belts, seals & gaskets, and more. The interior seat upholstery was only replaced as needed, as much of the interior remains original, including the door panels & headliner. The exterior chrome was refinished as was the exterior paint. The suspension was treated to rebuilt lower control arms, new shocks, coil springs, bushings, and steering components. The brakes were rebuilt during the process and received new hoses & lines. It runs and drives brilliantly! A quiet engine that pulls very strong, and the transmission shifts smooth as it should through the high and low gears! It really will satisfy the driver enthusiasts who wish to get out and enjoy their cars! It does have an added water temperature gauge to get a more appropriate reading. All of the original dash instrumentation is fully functional, although the former owner did not trust the factory gauge. It was also fitted with a battery cut-off and manual choke cable for times of storage and cold starts. We would be happy to answer any questions on this vehicle, and welcome personal inspections, so please feel welcome to call. We look forward to working with you!
