United States

A well used truck which we have used to tow our 5th wheel around on our holiday in the US for the last 5 months.
Alas our VISA's are about to run and it is time to go home and the truck MUST be sold.
The truck has had it's injectors replaced sometime before I got it. I have fitted a rebuilt injector pump shortly after buying this truck 5 months ago. As I have fitted this myself, I do not have receipts for this work. The engine has a little shake at idle but pulls strong and has no problems pulling our 15000 pound 5th wheeler. The engine doesn't smoke, doesn't use oil or water and keeps cool even pulling our 5th wheel up long hills.
In the last 5 weeks I have had to replace the transfer case (replaced with a GM rebuilt unit) and fitted a new standard clutch (complete clutch kit including flywheel reface). I have receipts for this work totaling around $3500.00  Receipts will be supplied for this work done.
I have also had a new Reese 16K 5th wheel hitch installed shortly after purchasing this truck.
There are minor cosmetic scratches in the body which have been painted white and are hard to spot from a couple of feet away. There is some wear and tear in the interior as could be expected of a truck of this age and mileage but no rips in the seat. Some of the plastic trim around the tray edge and on the back bumper is loose in places.
The fuel gauge doesn't always work (I use the trip meter to estimate the fuel left in the tank), one of the wheel studs on the front is broken. A tie rod end / ball joint will need to be replaced soon in the steering linkage. Discs could do with resurfacing. There are two little areas of rust under the back doors, worst one is shown in the pictures.
The parking brake doesn't work. However, this is subject to a factory recall. Work was started on this but the GM dealership did not receive the required parts in time to finish the job. As we are travelling and needed to move on, I had to pull the truck out of the dealership before they could complete the work. I can supply the contact names and phone numbers for the dealership which started the work. But taking this truck into any GM dealership and having them run the VIN number should show that the recall is still outstanding and the work should be done free of charge.
So truck needs a little work (and it is all minor really) but is priced accordingly.
As this truck must be sold, all offers will be considered.

GM tinkering with Silverado, Sierra model mix amidst strong early sales

Mon, 04 Nov 2013

Variety, as they say, is the spice of life. That's a lesson that is currently being taught to General Motors, because despite a strong showing from its 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, the General's pickup sales still can't best those of cross-town rival Ford.
With 59,163 trucks moved, GM fell just over 1,000 units short of toppling Ford, and one of the main reasons for that, according to GM's chief sales analyst, was due to a lack of variety in the engines and body styles available on dealer lots. "We are still over-weighted toward crew-cab V8 trucks. Our light-duty mix will moderate over time as our launch progresses," said Kurt McNeil.
Loading dealers with the popular combination of the 5.3-liter V8 and the four-door, Crew Cab body style was intentional during the truck's launch, but as supplies of leftover 2013 models, which are being sold at heavy incentives, are beginning to wane, both budget-conscious and high-dollar buyers are looking elsewhere instead of at the volume model pickups.

Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]

Fri, 25 Jan 2013

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?

GM profits threatened by glut of pickups

Wed, 05 Dec 2012

Automotive News reports that General Motors may slash production or ramp up discounts in order to deal with an oversupply of pickup trucks. GM currently has more than double the standard supply of pickups, and the vehicles are threatening to dampen the automaker's profits for 2013. Typically, automakers try to sustain a 60- to 75-day supply of vehicles, but GM is currently loaded with a 139-day supply, as of last month. At the end of November, the automaker was sitting on 245,853 units.
The manufacturer says that it will adjust production accordingly before laying any incentives on the profitable pickups. Even so, there's some concern that the inventory swell could hurt the roll-out of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. GM actually began slowly stepping back production in August, but it's clear the company will take further action as it heads toward the end of the year and into the next. Analysts predict the automaker could reduce pickup manufacturing by nearly half in the first quarter of 2013.
That still may not be enough to keep GM from laying extra cash on the Silverado and GMC Sierra. While the company's incentive spending was down in November compared to the same month in 2011, both the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 saw double-digit percentage increases in sales last month while the Silverado and Sierra numbers slid compared to a year prior. Incentive spending could help move more trucks and add some balance to the GM inventory surge.
