I am selling my 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT pickup truck. I orignally bought it to move from New Jersey to Texas to California, but now have purchased a smaller car. This would be a perfect work truck. Sold as-is.
It is in very good mechanical condition and fair cosmetic condition. I drove it across the country with no issues at all! It has a clean title and recent smog (<60 days, so you don't have to get one). I have run a carfax on it, and can provide it if you don't want to run your own.
===TRUCK DETAILS===
-Clean Title
-Recent Smog Pass (<60 days)
-178k miles
-16mpg highway (when I drove TX-to-CA)
-VIN: 2GCEC19T6X1117449
===OVERALL SPECS===
-5.3L V8 Engine
-Automatic Transmission
-Air Conditioning (works perfectly)
-Hinged Third Door, Seats 5
-4-Wheel ABS
===Added Stuff===
-Leather Front Seats (came from a Chrysler Escalade)
-Radio (aftermarket that has mp3, aux, usb, bluetooth hookups)
-Sprayed heavy protective bed liner (good for hauling rough gear)
-Tow braket w/ light hookup (don't have a ball, though)
-Replaced hood that was re-painted to truck color
===Mechanics===
-Engine: good, stock, oil changed regularly
-Transmission: good, replaced by previous owner (Dec 2012)
-Brakes: good, pads replaced by previous owner (~Oct 2012)
-Battery: good, also I have a spare
-Cooling: good, no leaks
-Tires: good, have 10-20k miles left on them
-Lights: everything works fine
-Shocks: good, doesn't bounce
-CHECK ENGINE LIGHT: off (i.e. no problems)
===What is Wrong===
-The console bottom display goes in and out due to a loose connection in the console plug. You can push on the console to get it to light back up (since it squeezes to make a more tight connection). This does not affect anything beyond the bottom display on the console (gauges and alert lights still work fine), so you just can't see what gear you're in and the current milage (the milage is still accurate, though).
-The fuel tank sending unit is faulty, most of the time sending a low-fuel signal to the console. When you drive for a while (>50 miles), the sending unit will start to work again and give you a good fuel level reading on the gauge. I mostly go off the milage (>350 miles means I'm at about a quarter tank). It's an easy replacement, but you need to drop the fuel tank out to get at the sending unit. Up to you. This seems to be common (google "1999 silverado fuel gauge").
-There is some rust damage on the bottom of the driver side panel (see picture). This truck lived in the northeast for most of its life, so it was around salted roads for most winters. I've crawled under and looked at the frame and rust is minimal, and the frame is in very good shape (when I bought it, it was by far the best frame for its age). The fuel tank is plastic, so no rust on it. The exhaust system has normal rust for its age, but out in California it won't get worse unless you drive it a ton on the beach (or around salt water). Overall, this truck is in very good structural condition for it's age and previous location.
-There are some various small dents and scratches on the outside. This truck was used by the previous owner to haul mechanical equipment, so it was a work truck.
-Apparently there was side impact accident in 2006. It was several owners ago, so I don't know the details, but it was not totaled and appears to have been fully repaired.

Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]
Fri, 25 Jan 2013The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?

Watch this creative way to pull a truck's engine
Fri, 08 Mar 2013Living in an apartment complex has its benefits, but for shade-tree mechanics who like/need to work on their own cars, it definitely has a number of disadvantages. Relatively simple tasks such as brake jobs and oil changes are difficult when you don't have dedicated driveway space, to say nothing of more in-depth repairs... like pulling an engine, for example.
For these types of challenges, a little ingenuity and plenty of muscle are needed to get the job done. Scroll down to watch these four men snatch the V8 out of a Chevrolet K1500 using nothing but a chain, landscape timber and good ol' fashioned brute strength. Good work, gentlemen.
New Bright creating exclusive 1:8 scale radio-controlled C7 Corvette
Mon, 04 Feb 2013If you want a new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette but can't quite save up enough pennies for the monthly payment, we have good news for you. Toymaker New Bright has pulled the covers off of its 1:8 scale remote-controlled version of the American sports car. Complete with a very detailed interior and LED headlights, this large-scale R/C is as close as most of us will ever come to having one of the menacing Chevrolet models to call our very own. New Bright still hasn't released pricing or availability, but word has it the coupe should hit the market soon.
Right now, it appears as if the C7 will hit shelves in Torch Red, though we don't know if other colors are planned as well. The good news is that New Bright isn't exactly turning its back on the old C6 - representatives say the company will continue to make its popular C6R racecar for those who prefer round taillights.
