1963 Nova Station Wagon Chevy Ii on 2040-cars

1963 Nova 400 Station Wagon.  This wagon is great.  I have owned it since 2005 and have updated most everything on the car in that time.  It has roughly 8,000 miles on it since it was put back on the road.  much of that mileage has been on long road trips.  One was a 2,500 mile tour of the California coast, and three or four others have been in the 500 mile range.  There were a few minor bugs along the way, but all in all, I would trust this car to go as far as you like.

Drivetrain:  SBC 350 bored .030 and rebuilt, mild RV cam, small chamber 194 heads, HEI, Weiand dual plane manifold, sweet Cal Customs valve covers.  The engine was built for driving.  It has excellent HP and torque, but is mild mannered and gets decent fuel mileage with a 600 automatic choke Holley carb.

The transmission is a 200R4 automatic overdrive, which I bought as a rebuild.  It offers great cruising speeds and MPG.

The rear axle is an original '66 Nova SS 12 bolt posi, which I had rebuilt with new 3.08:1 gears and brand new axles.  With the overdrive and the 3.08s, the car will do 80 MPH at 2250 RPM.  It gets about 18 MPG at 80, and 22 MPG if you can stand to cruise at 65.

Suspension:  The suspension is TCI independent front suspension on the front and TCI 4-link on the rear.  You can find more information on the kits at Total Cost Involved's web site. (About $6,000 but well worth it) The front suspension is based on a Mustang II design, with upper and lower control arms, Camaro power disc brakes, sway bar, and rack and pinion steering.  The steering column was modified for the rack, but I kept the original steering wheel and turn signals.
The rear suspension is the 4-link set-up with a huge sway bar and adjustable coil-overs.  With both the front and rear suspension upgraded, the car handles really well and stays flat in turns and stops very well when asked.  Finally, the kit also includes sub-frame connecters that stiffen things up.

The rims are 17" American Racing Torque Thrust II with 235/45R17 tires in good shape.

Body:  The GM Victory Red paint is now about 6 years old, but the car has been kept in an insulated garage since then.  It is not a show-quality paint job, but it is an excellent driver quality.  See the photos, which should give an excellent idea of the quality of the paint.

Interior:  Original full bench seat up front and rear with new upholstery, new headliner and door panels.  SS instrument panel with gauges instead of idiot lights - as well as an aftermarket tachometer designed to look stock.  Original radio that still works.

All new weatherstripping, window fuzzies, and window rubber except for the windshield and quarter windows.

Options:  Classic Auto Air A/C, power rear window, hidden trailer hitch.  Factory power rear window.

Chevy SS prototype spotted wearing Pontiac G8 clothes

Tue, 28 Aug 2012

Do not adjust your computer screen, you are not seeing the rebirth of the Pontiac brand. General Motors has chosen to use a G8 to disguise a test mule for the latest prototype of the forthcoming Chevrolet SS. The G8 was closely related to the Holden Commodore and Vauxhall VXR, the platform upon which the new Chevrolet performance model will be based. It should come as little surprise, then, that GM has opted to use the cladding from the former G8.
Thought the front clip of this mule is pure Pontiac, note the vents immediately behind the front wheel. That is a distinctive design hallmark of the Vauxhall VXR. Also note that this vehicle is right-hand drive, as the Holden and its Chevy counterpart will be very closely related. That likely includes potential drivetrains. The spy photos of this mule also reveal very wide rear tires, and rear wheels that do not match the fronts.

First privately owned Corvette Stingray blitzes 1/4 mile in 12.23 at 114.88 mph

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

Chevrolet's latest road rocket, the Corvette Stingray, is a very quick car. If one needs further proof of that, we recommend they take a look at this video from Hennessey of what is claimed to be the first privately owned C7 Corvette to make a pass down the quarter mile. Not just any quarter mile, mind, this black C7 blitzed its way down the tuner's primary testing dragstrip. The Chevrolet ran the quarter in just 12.23 seconds at 114.88 miles per hour. That is a very quick time for a stock car.
Equipped with the Z51 package and a six-speed automatic transmission, not only does the C7 run a solid time, but it does so with little to no drama. That won't last though, as Hennessey will likely return it to its owner with far more power - we just hope they show a drag run of the completed product. Take a look below to watch the C7's 12.23-second run on video.

Chevy Corvette Stingray picks up another award, this time from Automobile

Mon, 18 Nov 2013

The new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has picked up another buff book accolade after capturing Road and Track's Performance Car of the Year award. The seventh-generation of America's sports car (sorry Viper, Mustang, et al.) has been named Automobile Magazine's Automobile of the Year.
Automobile's award to the Corvette over competitors is the mirror image of its rival Motor Trend, which named the Cadillac CTS its car of the year over the C7. The CTS was, according to the Automobile team, the closest contender to the mighty Stingray. Great news all around for General Motors it seems.
As for what pushed the Corvette past its distant, four-door cousin, Automobile commended its excellent, 6.2-liter V8 calling the car's performance "simply awesome" while also remarking that it is easier to drive fast than ever before thanks to steering and chassis tweaks. Following a theme set by other publications, there were also plaudits for the interior, of all things, with the buff book complimenting the car's ergonomics and material quality, while also praising the standard seats.
