  •  My father loved this car from the second he purchased it 53 years ago.  He never let it get dirty; waxed it even when it gleamed and never let anyone in it who didn't go through a dirt check on their shoes.
  • When he entered the Navy in 1968 he drove it from Roseburg, Oregon to Pensicola, Florida for Flight School.  He took a picture in October of '68 when the odometer flipped over the hundred thousand mark. (see photo).  During his tour of VietNam he had it garaged back in Oregon awaiting his return.  He kept a picture of it during his tour and had an artist in Hong Kong paint an original oil on canvas (see photo) which he hung in his house on base.
  • From 1972 until his passing in 2009 it was his Sunday driver.  During those 37 years he only drove it 24,000 miles.  It stayed covered and garaged, waxed and loved and every year he would drive it in the local Graffiti Night Parade (see photo).
  • I feel it is my obligation to find a home for this special car.  A home where somebody will appreciate it like he did.  Somebody who understands what a true original 1960 Impala really means and how valuable and rare this car truly is.
  • Because it still has the original paint there are a few rock chips on the edge of the hood and some gentle swirl marks from a thousand waxes.  Perhaps a brand new paint job would bring more money but it would loose that originality that makes the car what it is.  And it's a special feeling when you sit in it and know that it looks the same as when it sat on the showroom floor.
  • This is a true One-Of-A-Kind from a man who could love a car as much as car could be loved.
  • Happy Bidding!

GM profits threatened by glut of pickups

Wed, 05 Dec 2012

Automotive News reports that General Motors may slash production or ramp up discounts in order to deal with an oversupply of pickup trucks. GM currently has more than double the standard supply of pickups, and the vehicles are threatening to dampen the automaker's profits for 2013. Typically, automakers try to sustain a 60- to 75-day supply of vehicles, but GM is currently loaded with a 139-day supply, as of last month. At the end of November, the automaker was sitting on 245,853 units.
The manufacturer says that it will adjust production accordingly before laying any incentives on the profitable pickups. Even so, there's some concern that the inventory swell could hurt the roll-out of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. GM actually began slowly stepping back production in August, but it's clear the company will take further action as it heads toward the end of the year and into the next. Analysts predict the automaker could reduce pickup manufacturing by nearly half in the first quarter of 2013.
That still may not be enough to keep GM from laying extra cash on the Silverado and GMC Sierra. While the company's incentive spending was down in November compared to the same month in 2011, both the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 saw double-digit percentage increases in sales last month while the Silverado and Sierra numbers slid compared to a year prior. Incentive spending could help move more trucks and add some balance to the GM inventory surge.

Helicopter crashes on Top Gear Korea set while chasing Corvette ZR1

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

The formula of Top Gear Korea is seemingly about the same as it is everywhere else in the world, including the flagship British original: involve interesting cars in fantastical situations with charismatic hosts. That prescription has proved to be pretty reliable over the years, and has lead to some truly memorable and exciting pieces of television.
Something like that was undoubtedly what the Korean producers were after when they lined up this segment - a drag race between a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and an AH1 Cobra military helicopter. The planners almost certainly did not expect the filming of the segment to go quite as wrong as it actually did, with the helicopter actually crashing into the dirt after the "drag race" had been completed. Thankfully, we're told that no one was seriously injured in the crash, but the footage, in the video below, is pretty damn chilling to watch, nevertheless.

Camaro spy shots show subtly different grille, front fascia

Sun, 03 Feb 2013

It looks like there some changes in store for the Chevrolet Camaro - the only thing is that we just don't know what Chevy has up its sleeve. Looking at these spy shots, we'd initially be inclined to think that there is just a minor facelift or a new special edition, but upon closer inspection, there are a few oddities about this car that definitely have us intrigued.
The most obvious difference on this prototype is the slightly restyled front fascia with a smaller lower air inlet and the two-bar grille. Then we get to some of the car's mysterious details. For starters, this fascia has the SS vent above the grille, but it looks to be blocked off. Granted this could just be a one-off piece used for testing. What really piqued our interest was at the rear of the car where it has quad exhaust outlets that are used on the ZL1. Could this be the LS7-powered Camaro that we reported on back in December?
At this point, your guess is as good as ours as to what we're looking at here, so let us know in the comments what you think this could be.
