Up for auction Is my 1976 Chevy El Camino,  I purchased this last year from the original owner who still had the original title ( I made a color copy of it before sending it in) it had been setting for several years in a barn and started occasionally. After much negotiation he reluctantly sold it to me. Now after completing this pick-up which I enjoy driving, I am reluctantly selling for myself.  It has the original 350  motor with a two barrel carb, carb has been rebuilt, still will need a slight choke adjustment, a turbo 350 trans, It is a number matching car, unmolested. Since I have acquired this fine automobile I have repainted it, new carpet, had the seat reupholstered, new dash cover, new fender and tailgate emblems, new tail light housings, spray in bed liner tinted to match, new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, new vacuum advance, new dual exhaust with trans am tips. I shipped both bumpers to tri-city plating in Elizabethton TN. and had them triple plated they look very nice. I put 8in corvette rally's with new disc brake center caps on it with two new BF Goodrich 245-60-15 on the rear, I had two tires in fairly new condition tires that I decided to use on the front, Futura 245-60-15. The A/C has had the evaporator rebuilt and the system was recharged with the factory R 12 refrigerant. Heat and air work very well. It does not have a radio in it, I have the original radio which does not work. Now this is not a show car, it is a driver. it is not perfect and has its flaws, I built it for a shop truck and did not want it to be perfect, it was intended for a daily driver and I drive it almost daily and will continue to drive until the first bid is placed. My future plans would include hood hinges, new window rubbers and fuzzies, door rubbers, new lenses, stainless trim, some touch up on the paint and some buffing. As of right now it is perfect for what I use it for. This is a RESERVE AUCTION with NO WARRANTY written or implied. Bidders are welcome and encouraged to inspect for themselves. Please do not bid if there is any possible way you can not complete transaction! A 500.00 non refundable deposit is due within 24 hrs of auction close via paypal and balance in cash within 7 days of auction close. It is also for sale locally and I reserve the right to end auction early. Bidders may call between the hours of 7am-9pm est at 919-548-1791. Thank you for your consideration and good luck, Toby

I have just added dash pics that were requested, dash cover fits very snug and is not glued because I was not happy with color. I have been searching for the dye to darken it a little or either to find one the color I wanted. I will include the glue that came with cover. Also I have had questions about the engine, engine has not been rebuilt just the carb, engine does have typical smoke when started it is not horrible, typical chevy valve seals. I drove it again this morning and ran very well. Any questions feel free to call.

Watch how Corvette Racing's new collision-avoidance radar system works

Fri, 22 Mar 2013

When it comes to technology used in racecars, we generally expect it to trickle down to production cars, not the other way around. Well, Pratt & Miller has developed a new rear-facing radar that operates in a similar fashion to what we're used to in modern blind spot detection systems, only it is also capable of tracking cars as they approach and relaying vital information to the driver via a large display screen.
The innovative radar system debuted at last weekend's 12 Hours of Sebring for Corvette Racing, and this system makes perfect sense for endurance races like this since the cars sometimes have to drive through the night and in poor weather conditions.
The radar can detect cars even with poor visibility, and uses easy-to-distinguish symbols for the driver to identify.

GM says hybrid Corvette no laughing matter [w/poll]

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

When Mark Reuss was in LA recently, he sat down to have a few words with the scribes at the Los Angeles Times. When the issue of a hybrid Corvette came up, Reuss answered with "Don't laugh." The General Motors president is a complete fan of the possibility, calling it "attractive" and "really fun," believing it would improve GM expertise and that "people would love it."
Naturally, the president being supportive of an idea doesn't give indication that a hybrid Corvette is on the way. However, with supercars like the Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari giving hybrid tech a solid, if remote, place in the performance car world, the inexorable trickle-down of technology means we shouldn't be surprised if and when it does happen.
And now that we have that non-negative half-answer to a speculative question, it would be irresponsible for us not to commence rumormilling for the C8 Corvette. Taking Reuss at his word, the C8 will obviously be a hybrid with all-wheel-drive - the left side wheels driven with electric motors, the right side with the mid-mounted, four-cylinder diesel engine. With coefficient of drag of just .16, figure on a 0-to-60 mile-per-hour time of under 2 seconds and an all-electric range of something like 30 miles at top speed. Don't forget, folks, you read it here first.

Chevrolet donates 300 vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Super Storm Sandy took out a lot of automobiles in its path of destruction through the Northeast last October. The number surpassed 250,000 at last count, and a few of those were owned by Chevrolet - cars either sitting on dealership lots or waiting at port to be shipped off. Rendered unsellable by the water damage inflicted by Sandy, these vehicles were facing the crusher. But Chevy didn't send them there.
Instead, Chevy had a better idea: It will be donating 300 of these vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders at Guardian Centers in Perry, GA. Chevy is the official automotive partner of Guardian Centers, which is an 830-acre facility that trains first responders in disaster preparedness. Junked cars are practically a consumable commodity there, where a full-size cityscape simulator gives trainees an entire urban center in which to train for all sorts of rescue operations and disaster scenarios.
Chevy says its particular vehicles will be used "in conjunction with role players for wide area searches, traffic congestion in emergency situations, counter terrorism, public order and mass casualty exercises." While grim scenarios all, we're certainly glad there are people out there preparing for the unexpected. While a zombie apocalypse isn't officially on the list of potential disasters to prepare for, when the virus hits, we'll be hot-footing it to Perry, GA to hang with these guys and gals.
