1968 Chevrolet El Camino SS396 truck for sale. One of 5190 made, this is a true SS 396 Truck loaded with options, and given a couple nice performance upgrades.  EVERYTHING is rebuilt and correct in the course of 2-year restoration: every bushing, rubber seal, headliner, carpet, etc, in addition to the complete rebuild of the motor and drivetrain. Date correct block #3916323 was rebuilt by ALTERNATIVE PERFORMANCE of California, and the TH400 transmission was rebuilt by SPECIALTY GEARS.  Less than 3000 miles since completion.

Options include: Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Power Front Disc Brakes, Factory Tachometer, Shoulder Safety Belts, Electric Windows, and Factory Adjustable Air Suspension.

The 396 Engine is conservatively estimated at 375 horsepower, equipped with closed/oval heads #3917215 which match up to intake #3866948, and the HOLLEY 4-Barrel Carburetor.

Performance upgrades include: Hooker Headers, Magnaflow Exhaust, Monroe Air Shocks, and a Tow Package with Electric Brakes.

The SOUND of the 396 motor through the headers and exhaust is AWESOME, but not obnoxious.  The ride is Tight and Firm, with no rattles.

The factory AM radio has been replaced with a "Stealth" AM/FM/Cd-compatible radio that has the correct Vintage Look.

There is some "Orange Peel" in the paint work, but you have to be up close to see it, and there is one scratch.  Overall, however, this is a very presentable truck that runs and drives better than new.

This truck can be driven anywhere, and has a Clean California Title.  The truck is for sale locally, and I reserve the right to end this listing at any time.  Arrangements can be made for shipping at the buyer's expense.

I welcome your inspection near Paso Robles, California.

Thanks for looking!!

2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Convertible offers a few more views before reveal

Mon, 04 Mar 2013

Over the weekend, Chevrolet released its first images of the new 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Now, ahead of the droptop's official introduction tomorrow at the Geneva Motor Show, the automaker has given us a few more shots of the softop C7 showing off the car's rump albeit from a high, strategically positioned angle.
From this angle, it's hard to get a sense for how long and flat the decklid really is, but we can easily see that, like the rest of the C7's design, the new convertible's decklid and tonneau cover are far more detailed than the current car. We also get a better look at the rear haunches sans brake vents, which have apparently been moved to underneath the car in order to accommodate the top's hard cover.
As for the overall styling of the C7 convertible, with the top erected, we get some idea of what a coupe design (as opposed to the Stingray's fastback shape) would look like on this car. The C5 Corvette most recently had a coupe model that did away with the large glass hatchback, and we recently reported on a low-cost "coupe" model potentially being added to the C7's repertoire.

Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]

Fri, 25 Jan 2013

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?

Watch NASCAR racer Jeff Gordon put one over on a used car dealer... sorta

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Full Disclosure: in my younger days, I loved nothing more than tormenting passengers with my behind-the-wheel hijinks. Once, after a particularly artful handbrake turn on a two-lane at around 50 miles per hour, I left one backseat occupant crying in their own lap. This isn't necessarily something to be proud of, but it gives you a glimpse into why it is that I find this ad from Pepsi so damn disappointing. The premise is beautiful. Take NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon, give him a disguise and set him loose upon some unsuspecting used car dealer. Hilarity ensues.
Except that this Pepsi Max commercial is so obviously staged, it can't help but feel like some ham-fisted marketing fail. From the strategically placed aftermarket cupholder mounted mid-dash for the hidden camera to the fact that the supposed dealer Camaro is displayed as a 2009 model (Hint: Chevrolet didn't make any), this clip is about as organic as a Twinkie. Still, we would never turn down a chance to watch Gordon thrash on a rental-spec coupe - only problem is, he probably didn't even do the driving himself. Check it out below.
