1997 Bmw 840ci Base Coupe 2-door 4.4l on 2040-cars

Year:1997 Mileage:20918
Location:

Tampa, Florida, United States

Tampa, Florida, United States

 Condition:
This car is being sold AS IS, with no warranties, expressed or implied.  Included in the sale are the original BMW 16" wheels, in addition to the BBS wheels on the car now.   The tires have about 3000 miles on them.  It has been well maintained and anything that went wrong with it I've had fixed or replaced.  I am not a mechanic, but I use a very reputable shop here in Tampa.  If you are interested and serious, I will get the records from the shop and forward them to you, or give you the contact information of the shop and you can speak with them.  I believe that there are very minor scratches under the doors where rocks/debris or whatever have contacted the car from normal driving.  There is a small discoloration on the driver seat about the size of a quarter, but other than that the leather looks great.  I don't think the passenger electronic seat controls work that well, if at all.  The little screen from the computer has some pixelation that you can see in the photos.  This is common on these BMW computers and this one appears to be in better condition than others I've seen.  When I bought this car, from my grandmother, about 10 years ago, I wasn't real happy with the original paint.  She really didn't wax it much, or really understand paint maintenance, so I had the entire car METICULOUSLY repainted.  The shop used the factory codes, and the paint is better than original when new.  The paint job cost $8,700 in 2005, and it all matches the VIN.  A potential buyer needs to understand that I am OCD when it comes to cars.  I wasn't cheap with the maintenance, and anyone who is SERIOUSLY considering purchasing this car, I'll give you the contact info for the mechanic (who is German and owns the shop, and his own BMW 850).  I am sure there are things that I am going to forget, but overall this car is beautiful.
Features:
      Listed above.
History:
This car was purchased new by my grandmother.  She sold it to me around 2004.  I have four cars, and only a two car garage.  It would be really nice if someone who really cares about cars, and loves these 8 series BMW's, would purchase it.
Shipping and Payment:
Shipping is the responsibility of the purchaser.  Payment should be made in full with a bank check.

...and yes, the mileage is correct!

Formula E gets wireless-charging BMW i8 safety car [w/video]

Tue, 26 Aug 2014

Racing series typically select a safety car appropriate to the kinds of racecars for which they'll be setting the pace. So you might find a Mercedes SLS pacing a Formula One grand prix, for example, and you're more likely to find a BMW M4 on duty at a DTM race and a Chevy Camaro or SS on an oval speedway for a NASCAR or Indy race. It would only stand to reason, then, that the FIA Formula E Championship kicking off next month in Beijing would press a plug-in into service as its safety car. But the organizers didn't go for your run-of-the-mill Nissan Leaf or Toyota Prius.
No, the safety car for Formula E will be a BMW i8 specially modified for the occasion. As you can see from the video below, the hybrid sports car packs a full roll cage, racing buckets with harnesses, special communications systems and on-board fire extinguishers. But that's not all.
In partnership with technological partner Qualcomm, the Formula E support fleet - including two examples each of the i8 and i3 - will feature inductive charging. So while one is out on the track, or at least sitting at the end of the pit lane waiting to be deployed - the other will be charging wirelessly. The vehicles are still pending FIA approval, and only one has been outfitted with the Qualcomm Halo wireless charging system (with the others to be retrofitted later), but they were all on hand for the recent practice race at Donnington Park.

BMW and Samsung team up with Galaxy Gear smartwatch that talks to your i3

Sun, 12 Jan 2014

Without a doubt, the most impressive thing that BMW showed at CES this year was a driverless M235i drifting flawlessly around a wet track at Las Vegas Speedway. However, that bit of robotic helmsmanship wasn't the only trick the German company had up its sleeve. Or, more to the point, on its wrist.
Taking a page from rival Mercedes-Benz, BMW demonstrated how a "smartwatch," in this case the Samsung Galaxy Gear, could be made to function usefully with a vehicle, in this case the BMW i3. Calling it a "research application," BMW showed off its BMW i Remote App on the Galaxy Gear; the app gives information about state of battery charge, available range and whether or not all the doors and windows are closed or open. Perhaps more useful still, the watch can be used to send a destination to the i3's navigation unit, adjust the climate control in preparation for a trip and can recognize voice commands. Nifty stuff, if not world-shaking, that could help tech-obsessed luxury buyers take a second look at the upcoming BMW EV.
Take a closer look at the watch in action below, or read thru the BMW press release.

BMW joins the early holiday advertising fray with three new ads

Thu, 06 Nov 2014

October 31 is no longer known as Halloween, or All Saints' Eve or even as that day when all children simultaneously develop huge cavities. It's now known as the day before Christmas/holiday advertising begins. Seriously, as of November 1, it seems like companies across the country and from every industry have declared open season on holiday ad campaigns. It's all premature enough that we're already feeling our inner Grinch showing, but at least some of the ads are better done than others.
Among them are new spots from BMW, which has arrived with this mini-campaign of three 30-second, Christmas-themed spots. There's a cameo from Santa Claus, who's at the helm of a sleek M6 Gran Coupe in one spot, while a 3 Series Gran Coupe slices through a slalom of Christmas trees in another. The final spot, called "Road Home", doesn't focus so much on the brand's "Ultimate Driving Machines," as it does the trip home for the holidays.
We've embedded all three videos below, so take a look and then let us know what you think of this seemingly perpetual holiday marketing calendar creep - and the BMW ads in particular - in Comments.
