1995 Bmw 540i - Exceptionally Well Kept - No Reserve on 2040-cars

Year:1995 Mileage:109591 Color: looks about commensurate with a four to five year old model

Hi there. Hope all is well.

My name is Steve Lang. I have been an auto auctioneer, automotive journalist and car dealer for a very long time with 100% positive Ebay feedback for well over a decade now. for the majority of you who don't know who I am, feel free to Google "Steven Lang and auctions."

I have been in the car business since 1999 and have thankfully met a lot of wonderful folks along the way. My customers have flown in from Montana, Washington State, Canada, and even one fellow who took a vehicle purchased for $1576 and drove it cross-country back to southern California.

Every once in a while, I get a vehicle that should go directly to an enthusiast who is willing to maintain the car up to manufacturer spec. This 1995 BMW 540i is one of these cars.

Like every older rare vehicle I sell on Ebay, the new owner of this 540i will appreciate the care given by the prior owner and will hopefully keep this older vehicle in good working order as a instead of just locking it up as a neglected museum piece. This is one of those cars that deserves to be driven and experienced by those who will value and care for it.

To be brutally blunt, this 1995 BMW 540i looks like it was stuck in a time warp. No I'm not exaggerating. Take a look at all the pictures, and feel free to contact me if you would like to see additional ones as well. This 5-Series  was put in a family trust where it remained an occasional driver for nearly 14 years (3,500 miles a year).

The interior is the cleanest I have ever seen on this vintage of BMW's, and the exterior looks about commensurate with a four to five year old model.

The tires are Kumho Ecsta LX Platinums that have about 90% of their tread left and the car is remarkably absent of any of the groans that come with older suspension systems that have gone through the rigors of pothole ridden roads. This one has been well cared for and the overall condition reflects a car that is likely within the top 2% of all BMW's of this vintage.

Carfax has this 540i recorded as a one owner with one accident (no I don't use Autocheck because their accident histories are incomplete) that took place approximately a decade ago. However the repair was done to OEM spec and the car has been kept in excellent condition since (see pictures).

NOTE: I am selling only this to an enthusiast... and yes, I really do mean that. If you are a grandparent looking to enable your progeny please go immediately to the Ford Escort wagon listings which will gladly afford your young one with a nice basic ride. These models are neither basic nor cheap, which brings me to the terms for this auction.

Why BMW doesn't plan to integrate Apple's iOS in the Car

Wed, 12 Jun 2013

While watching Apple introduce iOS in the Car during its WWDC keynote on Monday, we wondered how automakers, even the 14 who've already signed up to integrate this new in-car functionality of iOS 7, will feel about having the Cupertino company's mobile operating system supplant their own in-car systems. After all, some OEMs like Ford, General Motors and many luxury automakers have sunk millions of dollars into developing their own advanced infotainment, navigation and communication platforms like MyFord Touch, CUE and older systems like iDrive.
One automaker has now spoken up. A BMW spokeperson was interviewed by someone in the news department of British auto dealer group Arnold Clark and confirmed that the company would not be getting in line to integrate iOS in the Car anytime soon. The reason, as we suspected, is that BMW believes its own products developed over the last decade are both plenty good and already so deeply integrated with other systems of the car that, as told to Arnold Clark, "it would not be that straightforward to start changing all of the architecture of a car as has been implied [by Apple]."
While BMW isn't interested in spending more money to integrate Apple's services and functionality over its own, it has spent a good bit already to integrate iPhone functionality in its cars, including the relatively rare ability to support iPod Out and display Apple's own interface on Mini models with the optional Mini Connected feature, as well as committing to integrate Siri 'Eyes Free' functionality.

BMW Concept 90 Motorcycle debuts at Villa d'Este

Fri, 24 May 2013

The Concept 90 is one of two new vehicles BMW is showing off at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on the tony shores of Lake Como in Italy. This year is the 90th anniversary of BMW Motorrad and the 40th anniversary of the R 90 S (inset) - the first production motorcycle to come with a front fairing - and BMW has worked with custom bike builder Roland Sands Design to craft a homage to the Daytona Orange boxer from the Seventies.
While following the line of its forbearer, obviously the Concept 90 has been sexed and sleeked up. The bodywork is of hand-worked aluminum, the giant halogen lamp of the 1975 model (which is when Daytona Orange was introduced) has gone LED, and the front engine cover, valve covers, exhaust and wheels have been made with a contrast-cut milling process.
For a finer description of the Concept 90 check out the press release below, or skip the words and go straight to the high-res images above.

Popular Mechanics Breakthrough Awards honors GM Super Cruise, BMW i3

Wed, 16 Oct 2013

Our friends at Popular Mechanics have announced the winners of their 2013 Breakthrough Awards, which honor innovations and new technologies in a variety of fields, ranging from medicine to electronics to space travel. Among the winners were a pair of automakers.
The BMW i3 was named one of PM's product breakthroughs, and while the diminutive city car has a range comparable to other electrics, Popular Mechanics was impressed the i3's use of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic, which allows the i3 to tip the scales at just 2,800 pounds. But the i3's space-age materials wouldn't have been such a smash if it were priced beyond what the general public could afford. BMW's ability to offer a vehicle with such an advanced construction for around $42,000 (nearly half the price of the Cadillac ELR and only about $7,000 more than a Chevrolet Volt or Ford Focus Electric) is wildly impressive and speaks volumes about the future of ultra-light composites in the auto industry.
The other big winner comes from General Motors, which was named an Innovator this year for its semi-autonomous Super Cruise technology that's currently being tested on a Cadillac SRX. The technology, which we've reported on before, combines adaptive cruise control and lane centering into a super system that will allow hands-free driving under certain conditions.
