1974 Bmw 2002tii - Amazing Restoration on 2040-cars

Year:1974 Mileage:11300
Location:

Palo Alto, California, United States

Palo Alto, California, United States

This is a beautiful 2002tii. I looked for years to find one that met my criteria before buying this one. It has low mileage, is in restored and non-molested condition and has the very hard to find factory sunroof.

The car is Malaga (burgandy/dark red) with tan interior. Odometer reads x13,500 miles which seems to be accurate given the service and restoration history.

The car is very original and very stock with only a few minor tasteful modifications:
1. Wood (Nardi?) steering wheel (looks very nice with the tan interior)
2. Recaro seats (but upholstered in BMW material)
3. Rear seats reupholsered to match the Recaros
4. ANSA exhaust (I have the original exhaust if you ever want to swap it back)
5. Wheels (installed by the previous owner- many people love them, I would probably prefer stock wheels)
6. Bilstein shocks/coils

The car had a substantial restoration several years ago in original color. While I did not do the work, I have substantial documentation.  Total spent on PARTS ONLY (all of the body work was done by the owner) for the restoration and subsequent work is over $20,000. This includes the cost of a Stage One Engine rebuild by  Korman Autoworks. This car looks and drives beautifully. Very straight, no dents, no rust, NOTHING.

Everthing works other than the clock.

Dashboard in fantastic shape (two very minor typical cracks) and the console is perfect.

There are no holes/patches/etc. from speakers or audio equipment. The car does have the stock antenna but it does not have any audio equipment.

Full receipts for the restoration.

The car has had a few owners since the restoration and has been cared for as a 'driveable collector' meaning that it has been well maintained, garaged, and enjoyed. It appears that the odometer was reset at the time of the rebuild to zero. The restoration looks like it was done yesterday.

Key dates:

Restoration commences (disassembly)- 1988

Complete engine rebuild- 1990

Suspension rebuild- 1990

Paint/Body- 1990 (Glasurit Urethane paint in original color- Malaga code 021. All new seals, trim, etc where needed as part of this phase)

Carpet- 1991

TOTAL SPENT OVER 3 YEAR RESTORATION- $16,700

ORIGINAL RESTORATION WON 100 PT BMW CCA SHOW IN 1993- and the car looks the same today, other than what is listed below:

ANSA exhaust upgrade- 2007 (at xx8,000 miles)

Tires/Wheels- 2008 (at xx8,000 miles)

Recaro Seat upgrade- 2008

New window lifts and sunroof seal- 2014

This car sold on eBay Motors in 2006 for over $25,000 and has only been driven 5,000 miles since

On May-10-14 at 12:59:30 PDT, seller added the following information:

NOTE THAT CAR IS ALSO FOR SALE LOCALLY AND OWNER MAY CANCEL AUCTION AT ANY TIME PRIOR TO THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE RESERVE BASED ON CAR'S AVAILABILITY.

VW Golf R pitted against BMW M235i in enthusiast's choice battle

Fri, 15 Aug 2014

Most people don't have two, open spots in their garage to fit a practical daily driver and a fire-breathing performance car for the weekends. That's what makes vehicles like the latest Volkswagen Golf R and BMW M235i just about perfect for the average person. Both of these Germans can lope around as a commuter 90 percent of the time and be perfectly comfortable. However, when you want to walk in the door with a big smile on your face, you can take the back roads home and get a real thrill from them.
In his latest short video, Chris Harris from Drive tests these surprisingly comparable German performance cars. Both of them offer buyers in the neighborhood of 300 horsepower, with the BMW winning out with 320 hp. However, the Golf R gets standard all-wheel drive, which is now an option on the M235i. Harris has quite positive things to say about these Europeans, but you're going to have to watch the video to hear just what he thinks.

BMW celebrates 30 years of M5 with 600-hp super sedan

Wed, 07 May 2014

It's been 30 years since BMW rolled out the first M5, and while displacement and cylinder count may have fluctuated over those past three decades, output has only increased. The first-generation E28 M5 packed a 3.5-liter inline-six with 252 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque. The second-gen E34 model that followed added an extra 100 cc (and later 200 more) to produce 310 hp and 266 lb-ft. The E39 followed with a 4.9-liter V8 churning out 394 hp and 369 lb-ft, replaced by the award-winning 5.0-liter V10 in the E60 with its 500 hp and 380 lb-ft before BMW rolled out the latest model with a 4.4-liter V8, its twin turbos making up for the two dropped cylinders and 600 cc of displacement to produce 560 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. But even that's being left in the dust by the new special edition you see here.
The 30th Anniversary Edition BMW M5 packs that same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, but cranks the output up to a nice, round 600 horsepower and a solid 516 lb-ft of torque to go with it. That makes it more powerful, not only than any M5 that's come before it, but also any of its rivals. The Jaguar XFR-S and Audi RS6 Avant (the latter only available as a wagon and not in North America) both lag behind this ultimate of Ultimate Driving Machines; only the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG trumps it on torque (but not on power), with 531 lb-ft in stock form and 590 in the S-Model.
As a result, the 0-60 time drops from a quoted 4.2 seconds in the stock M5 to a scant 3.7 in the 30th Anniversary edition (just one tick behind that twistier E63 S). The special M5 also comes with the Competition Package as standard, as well as a dedicated control module for the Active M Differential, a special Frozen Dark Silver matte finish, 20-inch alloys and black chrome badges. Special badges abound inside as well, where you'll also find black leather and Alcantara upholstery and aluminum trim. There'll even be a dedicated one-day course offered to owners at The Thermal Club in Palm Springs, CA, to further sweeten the deal.

Car and Driver lists 10Best for 2013, same as it ever was

Wed, 05 Dec 2012

Forgive us for having the distinct feeling of déjà vu, but it certainly feels like we've been here before. By that we are referring Car and Driver and the announcement of its annual 10Best vehicles for 2013. To be sure, it's an impressive selection of cars that combine heart-pounding performance and frugal sensibilities, but it also represents something of a broken record on the part of C/D. We're not so sure that's a flaw, though, as the resulting list is tough to argue with.
Vehicles like the Ford Mustang, Porsche Boxster, and BMW 3 Series have maintained their high-horsepower spots on this list for several years now. Even on the more practical and nimble end, the Honda Accord, Honda Fit and Mazda Miata have not budged. These continued spots are even in light of redesigns for some vehicles such as the Accord, Boxster and 3 Series.
In fact, the only newcomer to the 10Best list this year are the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ twins, which knocked out the Cadillac CTS-V. We think it would have been a huge misstep to have excluded the FR-S/BRZ, even in light of the supercharged Caddy's lamentable departure from 10Best.
