IfRare 6 speed manual V70 R model in excellent, well maintained condition. I have owned multiple Volvo V70 wagons and this is my favorite with a 6 M/T and color combination (dark metallic blue-looks black).
Several upgrades and all maintenance has been done on this wagon: Elevate 3" stainless downpipe, high flow catalyst, resonator, still sounds stock. Elevate performance air intake IPD urethane lower transmission mount Elevate urethane upper engine mount (not currently installed, but I can do if interested will go with the car) Gates Kevlar racing timing belt Snabb short throw shifter TWM billet M1 Abrams weighted, adjustable height shifter IPD turbo boost gauge in custom vent mounting Elevate custom floor mats OEM mats will go with the car New tensioner bearings New serpentine belt NGK Iridium spark plugs Direct iPod connection to OEM stereo. The Great news: Transmission, clutch shifts perfectly, goes straight, no vibrations and stops perfectly, all fluids replaced (Mobil 1). No leaks, smoke, odor or unusual noises. AC, radio, CD player sunroof, power windows, locks work perfect. Interior treated with Leatherique and leather is very supple with normal wear on the driver bolsters. Dunlop Sport Signature tires on all four corners and approximately 75% remaining tread life (even wear). Body is exceptionally straight with a few scratches expected for a car of this age. There are no engine codes or warnings. Seat heater was recently replaced by Volvo and has new foam and like new feel in seat. Car is in great condition for its age. Known issues The drivers seat and others show some wear, no tears. Suspension springs are OEM and have lots of miles on them. Updated the suspension to non-4C, standard struts. Could probably use new springs or full coilovers. Clear Alabama title. Will pass all emissions state tests. Will help with arrange shipping or pick up. |

Junkyard Gem: 1994 Volvo 850 Turbo Wagon
Sat, May 18 2024Volvo began selling brick-shaped rear-wheel-drive station wagons in the United States with the 145 in the 1968 model year, continuing the tradition with the 200, 700 and 900 series wagons and all the way through the very last 1998 V90s. The benefits of front-wheel-drive proved impossible for those Goteborgers to resist, though, and so the 850 was developed. The 850 sedan first appeared in the United States as a 1993 model, with the wagon version following in 1994. Today's Junkyard Gem is one of those first-year 850 wagons, found in a Colorado Springs self-service yard recently. The 850 wasn't the first production Volvo with front-wheel-drive (the 1986 Volvo 480 beat it to European showrooms), but it was the first one available on our continent. The base 1994 Volvo 850 wagon for the U.S. market had a 2.4-liter DOHC straight-five rated at 168 horsepower and 162 pound-feet, but this car has the turbocharged version with its 222 horses and 221 pound-feet. American buyers of the 1994 Volvo 850 had the choice of a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. Most took the automatic. This car is a loaded model with power sunroof and other goodies in addition to the slushbox, so its MSRP was $30,985 (about $66,194 in 2024 dollars). This was a bit less than a similarly equipped 960 wagon (which listed at $34,950, or $74,665 after inflation). The antiquated but reliable 240 wagon had been discontinued the year before, with the 740 wagon getting the axe the year before that). This car just made it past the 200,000-mile mark during its career on the road. That's respectable, though I've found discarded Volvos that made it beyond 400,000 miles (and one that got to 631,999). The interior looked pretty good before someone smashed all the windows. Perhaps vandalism sent a running car to this place. Someone was kind enough to write down the security code on the factory radio. Drive safely. For those of you who hate to commute but adore driving.
Translogic 189: 2015 LA Auto Show
Tue, Nov 24 2015The LA Auto Show has become known for its green cars and concepts, and 2015 was no exception. Translogic host Jonathon Buckley gets all the details on BMW's 330e plug-in hybrid straight from BMW President of North America Ludwig Willisch. Then we get up-to-date on Honda's latest FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel cell car. We round out our tour with a stop at the Elio Motors booth for a look at their updated, three-wheel P5 concept and a chat with CEO Paul Elio. But first, we jump in a time machine at the Volvo booth to discuss Concept 26, an interpretation of how car interiors might evolve in the era of self-driving cars. "The reason why we talked about it as a time machine [is] because, really, Concept 26 is giving you back something that is so precious," explained Volvo senior director of design Tisha Johnson. "We're letting you delegate driving to the car, so that you can then have that time to yourself." Click here to learn more about our host, Jonathon Buckley.
Volvo specs new 450-hp triple-charged four-cylinder engine
Tue, 07 Oct 2014When Volvo lifted the veil on the new XC90 a little over a month ago, it announced that all versions would be powered by one engine design: a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder to be offered in various states of tune. That would range, Volvo said, all the way up to a high-output version with "around 400 horsepower," but while it wouldn't specify exact output, now it has.
The new High Performance Drive-E Powertrain incorporates two parallel turbochargers fed by a third electric turbo-compressor. Instead of feeding the cylinders directly, that third unit spools up the twin turbochargers, working together with a dual fuel pump pressurized to 250 bar.
The result is an output of 450 horsepower - far more than the existing 320-hp version and even more than expected. That also works out to 225 hp/liter, far more than the 177 hp/liter boasted by Mercedes-AMG's high-output turbo four and the 139 hp/liter in the Alfa Romeo 4C. Short of a rotary engine (whose actual displacement is the subject of great debate), you'd have to go up to something like the Koenigsegg One:1 (268 hp/liter) to find a higher specific output than what Volvo's boasting here.
