First - Air Conditioning not working. I refilled it and it ran for a few weeks, but there must be a leak somewhere. Secondly, car has a small leak in the cooling system - you need to top off the system when the light comes on; I've been using distilled water. I have been told that this is most likely the heater core, but I'm done fixing this car. The leather on the drivers seat bottom is shot, you could re-skin it or replace it entirely if it bothers you. The power adjustment on the drivers seat is finicky, you have to play with it to get it to work. There a scuff on the rear fender, and other very minor paint imperfections - but this is a VERY clean car for 175K miles and 12 years old."

Up for NO RESERVE auction is my previous daily driver - a 2001 Volvo C70 in Nautic Blue pearl over tan leather.  I bought this car (used in North Carolina) several years ago. This generation of C70 was produced from 1998 (introduced via the media in the movie "The Saint" - where a Saffron Orange pearl coupe was driven by Val Kilmer) until 2004 (the next generation started in 2006).   Volvo sold 15 convertibles for every one coupe and 10 automatics (or "auto-tragics") for every one stick shift.

As such, this is a very rare car - only 144 stick shift High Pressure Turbo (238 HP) coupes produces in the whole world in all five years of production - you will NEVER park "next to yourself".   It was a $40K European coupe when new, under seven second 0-60, 155 MPH published top speed. Not as strong as the BMW 335i I just bought to replace it, but certainly has the power to get out of it's own way once the turbo is spooled up - much stronger than several V-6's that I've driven (Accord coupe, Camry Solara, etc).  The seats are comfortable and the Bose Dynaudio three CD changer with center speaker in the dash is the best sounding stock system in any car I've ever owned.

I'm pretty sure the car spent it's whole life in the southeast.  All the major services due while I owned it were done regularly at Reputable Volvo in North Charleston.  For example - the car had the timing belt, water pump and seals done about 35K miles ago.  He also upgraded the bad electronic throttle module with a "Zeemodex unit".  I've put Penzoil Platinum synthetic oil in it regularly (well - I've made my fiancee do it ;-)), and there is an extra filter that comes with the car. The "white block" engine has a paper insert type filter (the housing in permanent) and places like Autozone don't always have them in stock.   Four newish (< 10K mile) matching name brand tires; brakes have plenty of life left.  There are no warning lights on - no check engine lights at all.

The car is in very good shape visually.  There is a good scuff on the rear bumper (please see picture) but because it's black plastic underneath dark blue metallic and it's very low on the bumper you'd have to look to see it.  There is some sun fading on the C-pillar (drivers side). There are a couple parking lot dings if you look closely.  Most of them are in odd places though - not where you'd expect a shopping cart to run into it.   I had a small accident this past year (no structural damage at all) and I paid to have the front bumper replaced with a genuine Volvo part - so all of the rock chips are fixed making the car look like it has a lot less than 175K miles.

Now, the bad news : The air conditioning on the car does NOT blow cold air.  I had them fill it up with Freon and it worked for a while, but it started blowing warm air again in a few weeks.  Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, there is some sort of small leak in the cooling system.   Every so often the "low coolant" light comes on, so I put distilled water in it.  I was told that this is probably the heater core, but I ran out of patience fixing these minor annoyances.   The driver side seat has two issues - first, the leather is shot on the bottom piece.  Secondly, the button to move the seat back and forth is finicky - you have to play with it a little bit to get the seat to move forward or backward sometimes.   Lastly, it has a weird key issue where it starts and dies and then you have to put the key back in, jiggle it, and then restart it.  Again - I've got a bunch of advice from people that this is an easy fix, something about the connection between the solenoid and the immobilizer on the security system - but I'm not paying to have it fixed.

If you like to work on / fix up Swedish cars - here is an opportunity to bid on a cheap car that could be really nice, rare, and fast if everything is fixed.  Or, you could drive it the way it is and limp it along for a while.  I'm doing this they way eBay is supposed to be : no reserve, starting bid one dollar.  This isn't a game, you aren't bidding to look at the car - you are bidding to buy the car.  Feel free to come have a look at it, take it for a spin, or even take it to your mechanic BEFORE bidding.   Text me (Amanda) at 843-870-3397.

To make this as easy as possible - I am willing to drive the car to you up to 150 miles in any direction from Charleston, SC once cash is exchanged.  Any additional shipping is entirely the responsibility of the buyer.

This car is a STICK SHIFT / manual transmission.  I have no idea why it is showing up as an automatic, but this is incorrect.

Volvo teases new electric SUV for 2023 reveal

Wed, Nov 9 2022

At the launch of the Volvo EX90 flagship electric SUV, Volvo teased a new, smaller electric ute for reveal in 2023. At the end of the presentation (around 1:32:50), Volvo CEO Jim Rowan told media in attendance to look closely as animated graphics appeared on the screen behind the EX90. There, shrouded in darkness, we see the rear illumination of the EX90, with flashes of a smaller SUV appearing next to it briefly. Could this be an electric successor to the XC60, perhaps to be called the EX60? It looks like it could be smaller than the XC60, but it's hard to be sure in this dark image. We’ll have to wait until 2023 to know for sure. But Volvo has said it intends to release a new EV each year as it transitions to an all-electric lineup by 2030. Stay tuned. 2023 Volvo XC90 Review: Design that stands the test of time

Wed, Nov 2 2022

Pros: Classy, clean, minimalist design; powerful PHEV powertrain available; robust standard safety and driver assistance suite Cons: While we like the design, it’s due for an update; upgrading to PHEV is costly The 2023 Volvo XC90 is a three-row, full-size SUV that we like for its tasteful design, comfortable interior space and excellent safety. For 2023, the standard powertrains become mild-hybrid designs based on a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. The plug-in-hybrid XC90 Recharge version raises the price considerably, but provides a generous amount of all-electric range while being the most powerful and fun XC90 by far. It wonÂ’t provide the sporty driving dynamics like some of the performance models from BMW and Mercedes, but thereÂ’s plenty to like about VolvoÂ’s flagship crossover. What Volvo does offer is oodles of safety, with excellent crash test results year after year, and a robust suite of safety and driver assistance technology that doesnÂ’t feel like itÂ’s working against you while youÂ’re driving. The XC90 is also comfortable and roomy, seating six to seven passengers in an interior thatÂ’s comfortable and interesting to look at without feeling overwrought or ostentatious. The XC90 is getting a little long in the tooth as itÂ’s now in its eighth year since a complete redesign, but its unique, crisp design and modern technology hide its age well. If you want something all-electric, though, youÂ’ll have to wait just a little longer. Volvo will release its full-size EX90 as a battery-electric successor to the XC90, expected to go on sale in 2023 with an all-new design and more safety tech than ever before. Interior & Technology   |   Passenger & Cargo Space   |   Performance & Fuel Economy What it's like to drive   |   Pricing & Trim Levels   |   Crash Ratings & Safety Features What's new for 2023? The 2023 XC90 switches to mild-hybrid powertrains as standard, complete with integrated 48-volt battery and an integrated starter/generator added to the existing 2.0-liter engines. The new B5 and B6 mild hybrids therefore replace the outgoing T5 and T6 engines. The XC90 Recharge remains a plug-in hybrid option. The XC90 switches to Google-based infotainment software for 2023, incorporating Google Maps, Google Play and Google Assistant voice control. The XC90 also gains over-the-air update capability, which means Volvo can send remote software updates to the vehicle, improving features over time.

Volvo XC90 prototype spied for the first time ever

Mon, 03 Feb 2014

Despite its advanced age, the Volvo XC90 remains a highly competent luxury SUV. The design has aged nicely, and it's clear from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety naming the big Volvo a Top Safety Pick + that the safety-minded Swedes behind it knew what they were doing. Still, even the finest cars need replacing, especially after nearly 12 years on sale.
Here we have the first spy shots of the next-generation XC90, under development somewhere cold (at this rate, it could be anywhere from Arvidsjaur to Atlanta). Now, as our spy photogs point out, this is the real deal, judging by all that camo over the vehicle. There's a production body under there, rather than this being a mule with the old vehicle's skin on top of it.
It's difficult to make out much because of all the camo, although there are some similarities to both the Concept XC Coupe from the Detroit Auto Show and a batch of teaser images we showed you earlier this year. We can see the greenhouse retains a shape similar to the current XC90, although the beltline climbs rather aggressively once past the C pillar, much like it does on the Concept XC Coupe. In back, Volvo has eschewed tall, vertical lights in favor of more conventional units, which we expect to be similar to what we saw in the teaser images. We'd bargain that there will be a traditional rectangular grille, like what you can see on the concept. The headlights, meanwhile, should wear T-shaped LED elements, like the teaser images.
