2024 CES Mega Photo Gallery: Honda concepts, a VinFast truck and flying cars galore

Thu, Jan 11 2024

The 2024 rendition of CES is coming to a close, and per usual, it was full of all the funky, futuristic tech the show is long known for. It’s also full of cars and legitimately forward-thinking tech related to cars, and we were on the ground to see it all and bring photos to you in this Mega Gallery.  A boatload of manufacturers attended and made big reveals, from the Star Wars-like Honda concept cars to a pickup truck from VinFast, the sort of debuts we got to see ran the gamut. Of course, there were plenty of reveals and vehicles on the floor that were even more outlandish than concepts from traditional OEMs like Honda and Mercedes. Check out this flying Xpeng car as an example. Or perhaps the flying Mansory car. Apparently, flying cars were a theme. Anyway, make sure you scroll down to check out the various reveals and photos of the cars and technologies revealed at the 2024 CES in our barrage of galleries. Volvo EX30 due out in June 2023 as entry-level electric crossover

Tue, May 9 2023

Volvo will expand its range towards the bottom when it presents an entry-level electric crossover called EX30 in June 2023. The company isn't ready to show us the soft-roader's full design yet, but it released a preview video that gives us a better idea of what to expect from it. "Something small is coming," Volvo wrote in a statement. While that's not a lot to go on, it suggests — but doesn't confirm — that the EX30 will slot below the XC40 in terms of size. We've seen it parked next to the EX90 and it looks considerably smaller; it rides on a much shorter wheelbase and features a relatively small rear overhang that creates a boxy silhouette characterized by an almost upright rear end. Many of the styling cues that define Volvo's current design language seem to appear on the EX30. Its front end wears T-shaped LED daytime running lights (called Thor's Hammer in the company jargon) inspired the EX90's, while its rear end features a new interpretation of the upright lights that Volvo has fitted to many of its cars over the past few decades — including the C30, which was its last 30-branded car. Technical details haven't been announced. All we know is that the EX30 will be all electric, all the time; it won't be available with a gasoline-powered engine. An unverified report claims that the city-friendly model will share its Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform with the Smart #1, among other models, and Volvo boss Jim Rowan said the crossover will deliver a "decent range." Using the SEA platform will allow Volvo to offer rear- and all-wheel drive as well as several battery options, though the lineup will vary from market to market. The Volvo EX30 will make its debut on June 7, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. European time, which is 7:30 a.m. in New York and — sorry, West Coast folks — 4:30 a.m. in California. We'll learn more about it in the coming weeks, and sales will start on the day of the unveiling. If the report is accurate, the EX30 will be built in China. Volvo confirmed to Autoblog that the model will be sold in the United States. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Volvo Cars to leave ACEA car lobby group over climate goals

Sun, Jul 10 2022

LONDON — Volvo Cars said on Friday it will leave the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) by the end of 2022, citing differences between its zero-emission strategy and that of Europe's car lobby group. The Swedish carmaker has committed to having a fully-electric car range by 2030, well ahead of the European Union's proposal for an effective ban on fossil-fuel cars as of 2035. Volvo has been a proponent of moving more swiftly to zero-emission transport, but after the EU parliament voted in June in favour of the 2035 deadline the ACEA said that "any long-term regulation going beyond this decade is premature at this early stage." In a statement Volvo said "we have concluded that Volvo Cars' sustainability strategy and ambitions are not fully aligned with ACEAÂ’s positioning and way of working at this stage." "We therefore believe it is better to take a different path for now," the carmaker added. "What we do as a sector will play a major role in deciding whether the world has a fighting chance to curb climate change." The news comes less than a month after world No. 4 carmaker Stellantis said it would leave the ACEA by the end of 2022 as part of a new approach to addressing issues and challenges of future mobility, including a shift away from traditional lobbying activity. The European Automobile Manufacturers Association, widely known by its French acronym ACEA, has been the industry's main lobbying group since its creation in 1991, uniting Europe's 16 major car, truck, van and bus makers.   Government/Legal Green Volvo Emissions Green Automakers Electric
