2005 Volvo XC70 2.5t AWD

We are pleased to present this incredibly nice Volvo XC70 2.5t AWD which is fitted with some fairly desirable options. First of all, 2005 is the first year for the facelift of these cars which gives them new more modern front and rear bumpers with larger skid plates, different tail lights, headlights, and a completely redesigned center console and center stack. This XC70 also has the Premium Package, along with the THIRD ROW SEAT!

The interior of this XC70 is in very, very good condition, especially considering the mileage. It has oak (beige) leather XC heated seats with beautiful walnut accents on the dash and door panels. The car has the "high performance sound" Alpine audio system upgrade which sounds excellent. It also has a power moonroof. The previous owner of this car was definitely a non-smoker. These cars don't even come with cigarette lighters, just power outlets. There is a cup holder that accommodates two beverages which is illuminated with a really cool light ring. The center console also features much more wood than the previous models, and it gives the car a much more upscale feel. This Volvo has dual front airbags, as well as front side airbags, and curtain airbags for the front and rear seats. It's got the WHIPS whiplash protection system as well which prevents whiplash in the event of a rear-end collission. It also features rain sensitive windshield wipers, along with heated mirrors and high-pressure headlight washer jets, which are part of the climate package. There is a minor hole in the carpet on the drivers side which appears to have been worn by the heel of the previous owner. This would be easily covered with a set of floor mats.

The exterior of this XC70 is in remarkably good condition, and Barents Blue in color. Barents Blue was a new color for the 2005 model years, and replaced the Nautic Blue color which was used up until 2004. Barents Blue is slightly lighter, with a bit more gray in it, and it holds up much better than the Nautic Blue color, and doesn't show imperfections as easily. The exterior of the car is actually in very nice condition, and there aren't any major flaws to note, except for a dent in the hood which is scored in the center. It is clearly visible in the pictures. The 16 inch alloy wheels are in good condition. The body seems very free of dings and scratches. Overall, this is a great looking XC70.

The tires are all matching brand name tires with very good tread remaining. The brakes are in good shape and the car stops as it should. The legendary 2.5 Liter low pressure turbocharged 5 cylinder engine runs flawlessly and is very smooth. The transmission is also excellent.Two keys are included, along with the owners manual set, original window sticker, and several service records from both the Volvo dealership, and an independent mechanic. We also have an extensive service history for this car, and the service book has several Volvo dealership stamps. The all-important timing belt service was completed at 128,000 miles in 2011.

Poor headlights cause 40 cars to miss IIHS Top Safety Pick rating

Over the past few months, we've noticed a number of cars and SUVs that have come incredibly close to earning one of the IIHS's highest accolades, the Top Safety Pick rating. They have great crash test scores and solid automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems. What trips them up is headlights. That got us wondering, how many vehicles are there that are coming up short because they don't have headlights that meet the organization's criteria for an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating. This is a revision made after 2017, a year in which headlights weren't factored in for this specific award. This is also why why some vehicles, such as the Ford F-150, might have had the award last year, but have lost it for this year. We reached out to someone at IIHS to find out. He responded with the following car models. Depending on how you count, a whopping 40 models crash well enough to receive the rating, but don't get it because their headlights are either "Poor" or "Marginal." We say depending on how you count because the IIHS actual counts truck body styles differently, and the Infiniti Q70 is a special case. Apparently the version of the Q70 that has good headlights doesn't have adequate forward collision prevention technology. And the one that has good forward collision tech doesn't have good enough headlights. We've provided the entire list of vehicles below in alphabetical order. Interestingly, it seems the Volkswagen Group is having the most difficulty providing good headlights with its otherwise safe cars. It had the most models on the list at 9 split between Audi and Volkswagen. GM is next in line with 7 models. It is worth noting again that though these vehicles have subpar headlights and don't quite earn Top Safety Pick awards, that doesn't mean they're unsafe. They all score well enough in crash testing and forward collision prevention that they would get the coveted award if the lights were better.

2nd annual Automobile Advertising of the Year Awards revealed

There was some absolutely fantastic auto advertising in 2014, ranging from funny to inspiring. Marking the best of it from the past year, the Second Annual One Show Automobile Advertising of the Year Awards were announced during the 2015 Detroit Auto Show (full disclosure: Autoblog was among the award's sponsors, and Editor-in-Chief Sharon Carty was a voter). Unlike previously, there were no brands with dominance over the list this time. Presented by The One Club, the awards have an international scope and hand out honors in a variety of categories. In the Broadcast TV group, there were three winners this year. First, there was The Scripted Life from Audi for the Q3 about breaking out of life's monotony. Also, Dad's Sixth Sense from Hyundai marketed the safety features in the Genesis. Finally, Unbreakable Drivers showed manly men being tested for the Toyota Hilux in Australia. The Online Video prize went to the fantastic The Epic Split spot from Volvo Trucks starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. The best Interactive ad was the Honda video titled The Other Side for the Civic Type R, and the Experiential Advertising nod was for the Volkswagen Eyes on the Road clip that showed the dangers of texting and driving to a theater full of moviegoers in Hong Kong. Finally, the Public Choice Award went to the BMW commercial called Hello Future using the words of sci-fi author Arthur C. Clarke for the i8. In the award not for videos, Jeep won the Print/Outdoor category for its Upside Down campaign. Check the ads out below, which show different animals when upside down.
