This is a Mild Custom 1997 Volvo, nicknamed the "VOLVOLO". New lowering suspension parts from IPDUSA. New Uniroyal Tiger paw tires, the wheels are factory Volvo wheels, but have been professionally powder coated by Permacolor in Carpinteria, Ca. The hood scoop on the car was welded and grafted from a 1964 Thunderbird, the scoop is non-functional, but gives the car an attitude. The side panels and the side of the t-bird hood scoop have been riveted, again for a Hot Rod, Mild Custom, Attitude theme. The car runs and drives, transmission shifts smoothly, the brakes work great, the moon roof works fine, the power seats, windows, and locks all work... this is a car you can buy, fly in to Santa Barbara, ca. and drive home. This is not my daily driver, you'll see in the photo, I have many vehicles, but this car gets it's legs stretched once a week. The title is a clear title, currently registered in my name with current tags and California vanity plates "VOLVO LO". The car is insured. The interior is leather and some of the usual cracks in the passenger seat, but the driver seat will need some attention. I could have put seat covers on them or a blanket, or not shown them in the photos, but I want you to see a true representation of the car that I am selling. The battery is new... in the last couple of months. No issues starting or driving the car. The true mileage of the vehicle is unknown, the speedometer works fine, but the odometer does not work. This vehicle is sold as-is  with no guarantees or warranties, expressed or implied. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of the winning bid. Ask your questions, make your bids, and congratulations to the person who snaps this sweet ride up. Good Luck!!!

Volvo working to allow groceries delivered to your car, even when you aren't there

Mon, 24 Feb 2014

Volvo cites research showing that 60 percent of online shoppers had problems with their deliveries in 2013, and that missed first deliveries cost the industry roughly one billion euros ($1.37B US) in re-delivery costs, as impetus for its "Roam Delivery Service" that delivers packages to your car. The service uses Volvo On Call and Sensus Connect car-connectivity and telematics apps already installed in vehicles, and a digital key with a timed window of operation.
The car owner is notified if delivery to or pickup from the car would be the best option, which they then have the option to approve or decline. If approved, the position of the vehicle is sent to the delivery driver, as well as a digital key that can open the car. Once the delivery has been made, the owner is notified and the digital key is erased, leaving only a time stamp to record when the car was opened and then locked.
The technology will be shown to the public at the Mobile World Congress later this month. There's a video and a press release below with more on the details.

Volvo agrees to transfer tech to new parent Geely

Tue, 11 Dec 2012

Following the acquisition of Volvo by China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group in 2010, we definitely saw this news coming. The two companies have signed an agreement that will give Chinese automaker Geely access to key technologies developed by Volvo, and in turn, the deal could help the Swedish automaker lower its production costs.
As a part of the "technological cooperation agreements" signed by both companies, Automotive News China reports that Geely will be able to tap Volvo for three much-needed technologies, including the use of a midsize platform, Volvo's proven safety innovations and interior air quality systems. The latter two technologies are important to improve the crashworthiness of Geely's cars, along with helping isolate vehicle occupants from China's often severe air pollution. The report says that Volvo tech will likely be used on a premium car brand that Geely is expected to create.
Volvo, on the other hand, is to benefit from the "local market exploration experience and cost control experience" of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, which is technical way of saying that Volvo will be able reduce its costs by tapping into Geely's established supply chain.

Watch Volvo's V8 Supercar drivers play with the Polestar S60 in the Arctic

Thu, 03 Apr 2014

The Volvo S60 Polestar may not seem like a natural fit for the V8 Supercars series that runs throughout Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania. After all, the all-wheel-drive production-spec car isn't even available with a V8. But the rear-wheel-drive racing version has acquitted itself well in the early races of the season, even scoring an overall win at a race in Melbourne. Currently at seventh place in the championship, the S60 the most successful car that isn't a Holden or Ford.
To celebrate its burgeoning success, Volvo sent its V8 Supercars drivers Robert Dahlgren and Scott McLaughlin to home base in Sweden to have some fun driving in the snow and to visit Polestar headquarters. The two of them do some big power slides on an icy lake and then taker a deeper look into the company's performance division. Scroll down to watch the video full of sliding Swedish sedans.
