1997 Volvo 854 T-5M
After 5 wonderful years of Volvo ownership, My car must be passed on to another Volvo enthusiast. It will be missed as a dear friend... This car although drivable and reliable needs work and is to be considered a project car. It has been my project since 2009. In order for it to pass inspection it will need at the minimum rear brake rotors, pads, and calipers, rear tires, passenger rear trailing arm. It has a lot of little flaws as expected with a 17 year old car. Starting with It leaks oil, approx 1 qt a month but its enough to leave an oil spot, occasional blue smoke on startup depending on how long it sits, alignment is slightly off, almost every body panel has paint flaws, chips, scratches, dents, etc., hood latch release behind the grille is broken, rear passenger door has an indent from a rock, passenger side skirt is broken in front of rear wheel. Interior is your typical late 90's 850, some pieces are broken, missing. Interior was ratty and leather was cracked so the front seats and carpet were changed, Dash was cracked and replaced with a black cover. The lower rear was removed, Headliner was dirty and replaced with a plaid sheet of material but now sagging, The front valance was cabinet trim but was scraped so I removed it for the winter months. A/C still works and blows cold and the heat works well but sometimes it has a slight coolant smell (common) It has the stock ECU and it runs rich and doesn't have "rev-hold" so it may seem a little jerky while decelerating. The BOV is not connected as that was a failed project and did not work with the stock diverter valve. Hopefully I have covered most of its flaws. For the most part I have kept up on most of its common issues. The PCV and catch can as well as the throttle body have been recently cleaned, replaced fuel pump and relay, timing belt was done approx 50k ago. The turbo spools up as it should, doesn't leak or blow smoke, Struts, mounts, spring seats, springs, subframe bushings and lower control arms were changed approx 20k ago. Transmission gear oil has been changed with amsoil gl5 approx 20k and have run rotella T5-T6 since I've owned it. Recently the radiator cracked and it now has brand new radiator and coolant. Most of the pics are from last summer, currently it has stock T-5 16" colombias. The 18" S60R wheels DO NOT come with this sale, They have been sold. Its sitting on B&G lowering springs with a decent stance. The mileage is unknown, I purchased it with 192K and broken odometer and replaced the gauges with an s70 cluster. I would guess its mileage is close to 300K. It starts as it should, idles smooth and accelerates hard, plenty of power enough to break tires loose. The Manual swap and exhaust opened this car right up. Not only more powerful in all the right areas, also more efficient and ultimately a real joy to drive. Mods: Lowered B&G springs M56L Manual swap OEM volvo clutch, Still feels new 3" turbo back exhaust, Sounds great 6000K HID's Reverse intercooler piping / Functional but could use work S70 gauge cluster Black/Tan interior 35% tint It kills me to let this car go, I have put a lot of time into it but its time to move on.. With the right amount of work and maintenance this can be an awesome car and can still last a long time. It is drivable but is not inspected so drive away at your own risk or tow. The last few pics are how it currently looks and includes the stock radio with code. Thanks for looking and hopefully you will enjoy this Volvo as much as I have... Cheers |

Thu, Jan 21 2016From the Washington Auto Show today, Green Car Journal's Ron Cogan announced three different fuel-efficient vehicle awards. They were: 2016 Connected Green Car of the Year: Chevy Malibu Hybrid 2016 Luxury Green Car of the Year: Volvo XC90 T8 2016 Green SUV of the Year: Honda HR-V The Volvo was nominated in two categories, but it did not win the Connected Green Car of the Year. Speaking of non-winners, the other green SUV finalists were the BMW X1 XDrive28i, Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-3, and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. The other Luxury Green Car finalists included the BMW x5 xDrive40e, Lexus RX 450h, Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid, and the Mercedes-Benz C350e. Finally, the Audi A3 e-tron, BMW 330e, Toyota Prius, and Volvo XC90 T8 were the runners up for Connected Green Car. 2016 Connected Green Car of the Year, Green SUV of the Year, Luxury Green Car of the Year Winners Announced WASHINGTON, Jan. 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Green Car Journal has announced the winners of its prestigious 2016 Green Car Awards at a press conference held today during the Washington Auto Show's Public Policy Day in Washington DC. Distinguished as 2016 Luxury Green Car of the Year™ is Volvo's new XC90 T8. The Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid tops the field as 2016 Connected Green Car of the Year™ and Honda's HR-V earns Green Car Journal's 2016 Green SUV of the Year™. "These are stand-out vehicles in an increasingly sophisticated and appealing field of 'green' cars," said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and CarsOfChange.com. The Green Car Awards are a key feature of The Washington Auto Show, the "public policy show" on the auto show circuit and one that puts a priority on safety and sustainability. "We are extremely proud of our partnership with Ron Cogan, whose eagerly anticipated suite of awards help shape the national conversation on the innovations that will drive our industry and country forward," said Geoff Pohanka, chairman of The Washington Auto Show.
2023 Volvo XC60 Review: Get the Recharge plug-in hybrid
Fri, Dec 30 2022Pros: Elegant styling and beautiful cabin; excellent plug-in hybrid option; solid value Cons: Middling handling; pricey and strange Polestar performance model The 2023 Volvo XC60 is the bread-and-butter SUV for Volvo since it’s in the very popular compact luxury segment. Thankfully for Volvo, the XC60 is a good, solidly competitive offering and one of our top-recommended choices in that segment. The most enticing part about the XC60 is its superb plug-in hybrid “Recharge” option. With 36 miles of range, a very strong electric motor and tons of power on tap from the gasoline engine, thereÂ’s no luxury compact SUV plug-in hybrid weÂ’d rather have. Of course, many of the XC60Â’s other elements are what make it so desirable. The 2022 update to revamp the vehicleÂ’s infotainment system give it a top-notch suite of tech offerings. ItÂ’s practically impossible to find the exterior styling offensive. Plus, who doesnÂ’t love an elegant Swedish-style interior? You can even get wool upholstery! One of our editors loved the XC60 so much that he actually bought one, so thereÂ’s a true endorsement coming straight from our wallets. Compared to other compact luxury SUVs, the XC60 wonÂ’t carve corners as well as a BMW X3 or Mercedes-Benz GLC. Plus, the Polestar Engineered performance model is a tad questionable considering it doesnÂ’t provide extra power and has manually adjustable dampers — yeah, you have to go twist the knob yourself. Those arenÂ’t exactly dealbreakers, though, and given the spacious back seat and cargo room, comfortable driving characteristics and excellent fuel efficiency, the stylish XC60 is an impossible-to-overlook option. Interior & Technology  |  Passenger & Cargo Space  |  Performance & Fuel Economy What it's like to drive  |  Pricing & Trim Levels  |  Crash Ratings & Safety Features What's new for 2023? For 2023, Volvo revamps its trim naming structure. Instead of the familiar Momentum, R-Design and Inscription options, buyers are now faced with Core, Plus and Ultimate. Additionally, the number of options packages are reduced and bundled together. The more important updates happened last year for the 2022 model where Volvo completely revamped the powertrain options, adding a mild-hybrid assist to the B5 and B6 models and providing big upgrades to the Recharge plug-in hybrid. You can read about these changes to the Recharge in our first drive story from 2022.
Volvo details upcoming XC90's new scalable platform
Tue, 12 Aug 2014In two weeks' time, we'll be boarding a flight for Stockholm for the live reveal of the new Volvo XC90. But before we do, Volvo has revealed another round of salient details regarding not only its new crossover, but a whole range of new vehicles to share its architecture.
That platform is called Scalable Product Architecture, and it follows the latest industry trend towards modular platforms. The product of four years' development, the new platform uses high-strength boron steel to optimize weight and rigidity. The scalable architecture, set to underpin the next-generation S60, V60, XC60, S80 and anything larger, offers designers more flexibility in terms of proportions. It can be adapted to a wide range of vehicles of different shapes and sizes, designed from the get-go to incorporate a range of powertrains (including the XC90's new twin-charged hybrid system) and all the latest safety technologies you'd expect from a Volvo.
The XC90, Volvo has revealed, will also offer increased interior flexibility, with movable second and third rows to optimize cargo space and legroom as needed. That third row is designed to accommodate children (or small adults) up to five-foot-seven. Meanwhile the image inset above gives us our first glimpse at the new XC90's styling, with T-shaped running lights inspired by Thor's hammer.
