1993 Volvo 240 sedan RARE RED COLOR!! This car gets a lot of attention.
Only 188,380 miles on this 4 cylinder, automatic transmission, air conditioning automobile. I say "only" because my mechanic who specializes in Volvos says this car will run for at least 300,000 miles easily with regular maintenance...beats a car payment and it is an awesome, safe dependable classic car.
This car has been lovingly maintained for the 9 years I have owned it. I have put under 7,000 miles per year on it since I have owned it, but drive it regularly. It is a safe, dependable tank of a car. I am selling only because I need a vehicle that I can haul more in because I have started doing art shows.
Power locks through driver door lock and power windows all work except passenger window has to be opened by driver (passenger can close). The cloth interior is in good condition-no tears, wear spots or burns. There is one small tear in the floor carpet on the driver side and one chip in the windshield. There are no cracks on the dash. It has an after market stereo with CD player and audio cable for satellite radio or iPod. Front and back speakers. Set of 2 snow tires included-used only one season (year before last-no snow last year!) Headliner is in almost perfect condition-no marks.
I bought this car 9 years ago from a dealer in Louisville, KY. It has been maintained regularly. I get the oil changed every 3,000 miles or 3-6 months. I have all the records.
- Last month-new brakes including rotors, new fuel relay, AC charged
- 2010-replaced transmission
- Body work to remove rust on driver's side fender.
- Paint is in great condition for age of car. Rubbed spot on trunk, clear coat chip on roof post. No active rust.
- Hole in exhaust system was recently patched and not replaced so it may last for years.
The vehicle is sold AS IS.

Volvo Recharge plug-in hybrids get big range and power bumps
Mon, Mar 14 2022Volvo's plug-in hybrid powertrain is getting a significant upgrade for 2023, resulting in all its 90- and 60-series Recharge models effectively doubling their electric range and becoming eligible for the full $7,500 federal tax credit. A new rear electric motor now delivers 143 horsepower from 87 hp, resulting in a combined output of 455 hp and 523 pound-feet of torque. That's a significant bump from the previous 400 hp and 472 lb-ft. These changes apply to the Recharge versions of the XC90, S90, XC60 and S60, plus the Polestar Engineered trim levels of XC60 and V60. Below are the new electric ranges for each of the Volvo Recharge models. Their previous ranges are in parentheses. S60 Recharge: 41 miles (22) V60 Polestar Engineered: 41 miles (22) XC60: 35 miles (19) XC60 Polestar Engineered: 35 miles (19) S90 Recharge: 38 miles (21) XC90 Recharge: 35 miles (18) These range increases are the result of a new long-range battery pack featuring a third layer of cells. This brings total capacity from 11.6 kWh to 18.8 kWh. There are other advantages, as well. The XC60 and S90 Recharges will now be capable of one-pedal driving, whereby regenerative braking is so strongly applied that the car effectively does most of the braking for you. This is already available on Volvo's fully electric models, and although it will initially be available only on the XC60 and S90, Volvo told Autoblog that the others will eventually get it. When exactly? Volvo did not elaborate.  Volvo says the increased battery capacity will improve performance in extreme cold and heat. It will also allow for pre-heating and pre-cooling the car, even when unplugged, without reducing all-electric range. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Volvo teases refreshed XC90, EX90 updates and 'a surprise or two'
Fri, Aug 23 2024Volvo will show the world the updated XC90 crossover on what the company is calling "90/90" day, which to the rest of us is simply September 4th. The day will also "mark a big moment in the launch of the EX90," which accounts for the second "90." But what's far more interesting was the cryptic teaser Volvo tacked onto the end of its announcement, suggesting that "there might be a surprise or two …" in store for us too. Well, then. The announcement was accompanied by an equally cryptic teaser image that appears to depict the hoods of the EX90 (top/right) and XC90 (bottom/left). There's not much to see here apart from the differentiating hood creases and some details in the headlights. From what we can make out, the updated XC90 will have a different take on the "Thor's Hammer" LED signature. Anything else is merely speculation. While Volvo hasn't officially put a sunset date on the XC90, we expect this will be the last major update before it is put out to pasture in favor of its all-electric sibling. The writing has been on the wall since Volvo originally unveiled the EX90 in 2022. As for Volvo's surprises? We're not really sure what to expect. With the EX30 launch dragging on much longer than expected, Volvo is unlikely to be in a position to announce any major new product introductions for the U.S. market. We can't rule out the possibility of some Polestar Engineered variants of existing models; Volvo has already demonstrated a willingness to offer them on crossovers, so why stop now? In any event, we've only about a week to wait. Plus, you'll be able to watch the whole thing live on Volvo's 90/90 Day microsite.Â
Stolen first production Volvo P1800 recovered
Wed, 04 Sep 2013Late last month, we told you about a 1961 Volvo P1800 that had been stolen in Sweden. The thought of losing a classic coupe to an unscrupulous thief is troubling enough, but this wasn't just any P1800 - it was the very first production example minted, and the restored red-over-white two-door was owned by the vice president of the Swedish P1800 Club to boot. Chassis Number Two was pilfered from a Stockholm lockup on either August 21 or 22, and the theft triggered an international hunt of sorts.
Fortunately, that hunt has come to a (mostly) happy ending. According to Larmtjänst AB, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting vehicle crime in Sweden, the car was spotted by someone who had read about the missing classic. The P1800 was recovered in Hägerstensvägen, a municipality of Stockholm, after being found abandoned on the road covered with a tarp. The owner is reportedly very relieved that his Volvo is mostly intact, marred only by a broken ignition and a dirty interior.
