1992 Volvo 240 Base Wagon - Excellent Example - No Rust - Mechanically Sorted on 2040-cars

If you have been looking for the right 240 daily driver; this is it. Owned by a Volvo enthusiast: 1992 Volvo 240 Base Wagon. 162K miles. I looked for a long time for a great example and then did all the things to it that are needed to make these a dependable car for the second half of its life. This car has no rust, no cracks in the dash, clean title, good paint and it's been well cared for all its life. I hate to see this car go.
Not a repair but renewed because these are areas that 240s need attention: - suspension bushes in front. - crankcase oil breather box and plumbing - rear camshaft seal and IPD seal retainer kit - down pipe -- rest of exhaust was fine - rear shocks -- fronts fine - engine mounts - fuel filter and fuel pump - lambda sensor - hoses - belts - extra fuel pump relay - paint clayed, polished and sealed - The paint was in great shape to start with. This will make it last. - turn signal and brake light assemblies The following I did as a repair: - alternator - cam cover gasket Options on car: - fairly new OEM mud mats front, back and cargo - factory folding third row seat What the car needs now and in future as far as I can tell: - the battery is getting a little tired but is still tests good - power steering pump is also getting a little tired but not ready for replacement - radio antenna (full assembly) easy install and $63.40 from ipdusa.com - stereo speakers front and rear Defects: Door ding on driver's door. Scrape on back of front driver's side wheel well edge. See side image. Small tear on top of back seat. See image of cargo area. Various little things you find on a well cared for 22 year old car. Price is $6200. These go for $500 (junk but drives 300K+ miles) to $14,000 (perfect time machine <50K miles). It's hard to put value on these via blue book. I paid $5,500, after looking around a lot, and put about $3000 worth of work in it. These cars easily go 300K and I've taken care of the normal issues that may come up. This is my third Volvo wagon. The first two, I drove more than 300K miles and maintained them myself. Call me with any questions 530-598-9244. Volvo recalls small batch of cars — 74, exactly — for potentially serious steering issue
Tue, Jan 17 2023Volvo announced earlier in January that it is recalling a small number of cars (just 74) to address a potentially serious issue with their steering boxes. An extra screw unintentionally inserted during assembly can work its way into the steering gear, potentially locking it up and causing a loss of steering control. The issue is present only on a small number of 2019-2022 Volvo V60CCs, XC60s and XC90s. Per Volvo, the issue can be traced back to a single assembly line station that erroneously double-fed screws into the affected units, allowing the loose hardware to remain behind, where it can foul the gear. Volvo says it knows which steering boxes were assembled this way, allowing them to recall only the units in question. Customers whose cars exhibit the defect will not show any outward symptoms until the screw begins to interfere with steering box operation, which could be indicated by a grinding noise when turning the wheel. Volvo has already notified dealers of the issue and will send notices to the 74 owners in March. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. Volvo teases refreshed XC90, EX90 updates and 'a surprise or two'
Fri, Aug 23 2024Volvo will show the world the updated XC90 crossover on what the company is calling "90/90" day, which to the rest of us is simply September 4th. The day will also "mark a big moment in the launch of the EX90," which accounts for the second "90." But what's far more interesting was the cryptic teaser Volvo tacked onto the end of its announcement, suggesting that "there might be a surprise or two …" in store for us too. Well, then. The announcement was accompanied by an equally cryptic teaser image that appears to depict the hoods of the EX90 (top/right) and XC90 (bottom/left). There's not much to see here apart from the differentiating hood creases and some details in the headlights. From what we can make out, the updated XC90 will have a different take on the "Thor's Hammer" LED signature. Anything else is merely speculation. While Volvo hasn't officially put a sunset date on the XC90, we expect this will be the last major update before it is put out to pasture in favor of its all-electric sibling. The writing has been on the wall since Volvo originally unveiled the EX90 in 2022. As for Volvo's surprises? We're not really sure what to expect. With the EX30 launch dragging on much longer than expected, Volvo is unlikely to be in a position to announce any major new product introductions for the U.S. market. We can't rule out the possibility of some Polestar Engineered variants of existing models; Volvo has already demonstrated a willingness to offer them on crossovers, so why stop now? In any event, we've only about a week to wait. Plus, you'll be able to watch the whole thing live on Volvo's 90/90 Day microsite.Â
Volvo XC40 and C40 electrics get new motors, more horsepower, longer range
Tue, Jan 17 2023Late last year came reports of improved versions of the Volvo XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge for Europe. Configurators over the Atlantic showed there wouldn't just be new rear-wheel-drive models, but more battery, more range, and faster charging. The Swedes have finally published the official list of updates, the tweaks even better than the reportage and websites showed. First, the rumors are true, Volvo is back in the rear-driver game after 25 years on the sidelines. The automaker took the previous e-motors off the front axle, putting its in-house-developed, more powerful, and more efficient e-motor on the rear axle. This first use of the new e-motors bumps output from 228 horsepower to 235 horsepower in the RWD trims when combined with the 60-kWh standard range battery. That, plus cooling improvements for the pack, means the XC40 Recharge's range jumps from 425 kilometers on the WLTP cycle to 460 km (285 miles), the C40 Recharge's range going from 438 km to 476 km (296 miles). Plugged into a charger capable of at least 130 kW, refilling from 10% to 80% takes about 34 minutes. We specified "standard range battery" because another new treat is a second RWD trim: Volvo will plug its 82-kWh battery into the powertrain for those willing to pay. But wait, there's more: The big pack powers an even juicier e-motor making 248 hp. The added gumption boosts range in the XC40 Recharge to 515 km (320 miles), in the C40 Recharge to 533 km (331 miles). And again, improved cooling permits uprated charging speed of 200 kW, cutting the run from 10% to 80% SOC to approximately 28 minutes. Dual-motor variants make the change to asymmetric output as revealed before, giving up two 201-hp e-motors for a new 156-hp motor on the front axle and that in-house 248 hp motor on the rear. In conjunction with better cooling, the XC40 Recharge Twin Motor climbs to 500 km (311 miles) of range on a charge, a 62-km hike, the C40 Recharge Twin Motor to 507 km (315 miles), a 56-km enhancement. Marginal gains also come from a set of more aerodynamic 19-inch wheels. The updated twin-motor siblings are expected to enter production in May, the single-motor versions in the fall. We only get the Twin Motor models here. If our variants reflected the same range extensions as in Europe, the 14% rise for the XC40 Recharge would give our car a 255-mile range, the C40 a 12% boost to 254 miles of range.
