1991 Volvo 240 Wagon

Mechanics:
This Volvo is in great mechanical shape.  I'd drive it across the country tomorrow.  Last month I converted the air conditioning to R-134, which is the new, current refrigerant.  At that time I also replaced the A/C compressor, receiver dryer, lines, etc .  I made sure the A/C could keep me cool in the Vegas heat.  I also did the front and rear brakes and a full tune up last month at the same time I did the A/C.  All four tires are matching Michelins with lots of tread left (see picture).  The engine compartment is amazingly clean and the car has no leaks.  This car starts right up, and runs very smooth and quiet.  This car has very low miles for its year and these cars see 350,000 miles regularly.

Exterior:
The exterior is in great shape for its age.  The paint still shines and it is not flaking or peeling.  I have installed brand new Volvo OEM headlights and front corner lights.  This made a huge difference in the appearance of the car.  The new lights are perfectly clear without any haze.  I used Volvo factory parts.  The rally wheels look great.  There's no rust on the undercarriage or body.  There are a few dings that I would like to disclose.  I will include pictures of the dings below.  There is a ding in the passenger front wheel well.  There is a scratch at the driver rear wheel well.  There is a scratch that has been covered with touch up paint at the passenger rear corner behind the rear side window.

Interior:
The interior is nice for this year.  The car has not been smoked in.  There are no holes, tears, or rips in the seats.  There are no odors of any type.  The back seat is nearly perfect.  The front passenger seat is also in great shape.  The drivers seat has no holes, rips, or tears; however, it is slightly darker in color from use.  I have shampooed the seats, but the drivers seat stays a little darker than the other seats.  It isn't dirty and it doesn't smell, it is just a little darker in color since it is such a light color to begin with.  All the buttons function, the radio works, the power windows work as well.

Check out the "VEHICLE HISTORY REPORT" on this car.  It's a 2 owner car, no accidents, no damage, no problems and the odometer checks out!!  The overall score was a 38.  Normal range for this year and model is usually between 11 to 29, so 38 is a high score!

Overall this car is in great shape.  It has been unbelievably reliable and will make a great car for many years to come.  I am selling this because I need a larger truck to pull a trailer.  Please email me with any questions.  Good luck!!

Volvo won't entirely give up on sedans and station wagons

Mon, Jan 10 2022

Volvo, like an overwhelming majority of its peers and rivals, sells more SUVs and crossovers than sedans and station wagons. It confirmed plans to pivot away from low-riding models in 2021, but it stressed that it's not ready to throw in the towel in either segment quite yet. "Yes, the [V and S lines] will be replaced with something even more attractive to customers," affirmed company boss Hakan Samuelsson in an interview with British magazine Autocar. His comments come as a relief for Volvo wagon fans around the world, given that in 2021 he had said that the company needs "to move [on] from wagons and sedans." There's a catch, though: Future V and S models will look quite different than today's. Samuelsson (who will step down from his position in March 2022) acknowledged that Volvo needs lower-riding cars but noted that their design will evolve and become "maybe a little less square." It's not just about style, either. "Cars will be less boxy in the future, when we need to have lower air resistance. You could call it coupe-ish. We talk a lot about range in electric cars, but I think we will start looking at energy efficiency, and of course air resistance will be very central to that," he said. It helps that sleeker designs help keep buyers interested in sedans. Volvo's S90 and V90 were introduced and 2015 and 2016, respectively, so they're expected to be replaced in the not-too-distant future. One point that's still up in the air is what they'll be called. The Swedish company is preparing to ditch its alphanumerical naming system in order to give its cars an actual name, so both nameplates will die with the current-generation models. We'll have a better idea of what the future has in store when the XC90's replacement arrives later in 2022 with a new name, a new architecture, and a large serving of new technology. Volvo to use Oz as test bed for more Polestar models?

Tue, 25 Jun 2013

We've already told you about the slightly more awesome version of the Volvo S60 that our friends Down Under can now get their hands on. And according to Aussie site Drive.com.au, Volvo may look to the land of Oz for future testing of new, Polestar-tuned, high-performance models.
Volvo has reportedly confirmed that this S60 Polestar run will be an exercise in testing the acceptance of the Swedish tuner's presence as a proper competitor for things like BMW's M division or Mercedes-Benz's AMG. (A tall order, for sure.) "The world is watching this exercise with much interest," Volvo Cars Australia boss, Matt Braid, told Drive.com.au.
Hans Baath, Polestar Managing Director, reportedly hinted that the tuning house had already begun work on a hotter version of the V40 hatchback, but the project was scrapped in order to get the S60 program rolling. If there's success to be found here, this smaller hot hatch could be revisited, as well as a more powerful version of the XC60 crossover.

When Android Automotive goes in the dash, Google wins — and automakers lose data

Tue, May 22 2018

You've gotta hand it to Google for the way the Silicon Valley tech giant has made indelible inroads into the car on multiple fronts. The most obvious is with its pioneering self-driving car technology that's caused car companies to get their act together on autonomous vehicles — and also collaborate with Google. Google has more directly extended its influence and data-mining capabilities into the car with its Android Auto smartphone-projection platform that most major automakers have adopted along with Apple's CarPlay. And now it's preparing to dig even deeper into dashboards by deploying its open-source operating system, Android Automotive, beginning with Audi and Volvo. Volvo recently announced that its next-generation Sensus infotainment system will run Android Automotive as an OS and include Google's Play Store for cloud-based content, Maps for navigation and Google Assistant for voice recognition, which can even command a car's climate control. By embedding Google in the dash, Volvo says owners will get an improved connected experience. "Bringing Google services into Volvo cars will accelerate innovation in connectivity and boost our development in applications and connected services," Volvo senior vice president of R&D Henrik Green said in a statement. "Soon, Volvo drivers will have direct access to thousands of in-car apps that make daily life easier and the connected in-car experience more enjoyable." Having Android Automotive onboard could benefit drivers — and provide a big win for Google, since it opens a deep and lucrative new data-mining vein for the company. But it's a wave of a white flag for car companies when it comes to delivering their own cloud-based content and services. It also represents a massive data giveaway and, for Audi, a reversal of earlier reservations about letting Google get too much access to car data. Not long after Android Auto and Apple CarPlay were introduced in 2014 and most automakers eagerly embraced the technologies, several German automakers second-guessed their decision when they realized what was at stake: data. At a conference in Berlin in 2015, Audi CEO Rupert Stadler said car owners "want to be in control of their data, and not subject to monitoring." A few months earlier, Stadler stated that "the data that we collect is our data and not Google's.
