WOW, this is the real deal, a very rare opportunity to own and drive a museum quality car just like the shiny new Volvo 240 that your Volvo dealer had on the showroom floor in 1991. This vehicle was purchased new in early 1992 by an elderly couple who loved driving manual transmission cars and kept it parked inside their garage it's entire life. And it is equipped with a 5 speed manual transmission to boot. We have serviced this vehicle since 2001 and have all the records available for inspection. A new clutch was installed in 2012 and the A/C system was updated to R134A freon using the Volvo factory kit (no longer available) in 2003 and is colder than new. Other than oil changes, brake pads and normal maintenance items that is all that has been required through it's very low 47,000 mile life. Essentially it is still very much like a new car. This vehicle has a driver's side air bag and anti-lock brakes. The Michelin agility tires were replaced less than 20,000 miles ago and still have the mold marks from when they were new. The front brake pads have approx. 35% remaining thickness and the rear pads have approx. 75% remaining. The original AM/FM cassette radio and amplifier have power and ground but are not making a sound. We anticipate the new owner wanting to update the radio to a more modern CD player after taking ownership. All the lenses including tail lights, headlights and turn signals are clear and look new. The visor clips are intact on both visors. The plastic door pockets are not broken on either side. The interior is flawless and the blue cloth seats still feel new, of course this vehicle has never been smoked in. All power windows and locks function as new. In short, if you had taken a 1991 Volvo 240 for a test drive when new this is what it would feel like. |

Five vehicles named Top Safety Pick+ including new Civic, MKZ
Fri, 08 Mar 2013In an attempt to help push vehicle safety to a higher level, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety created a stricter Top Safety Pick+ rating last year, which incorporates a brutal small overlap test and requires cars to get Good ratings in four out of the five categories (and no less than Acceptable in the fifth). Joining the list of the safest cars of 2013, the 2013 Volvo XC60, Lincoln MKZ, Honda Civic (sedan and coupe) and the 2014 Mazda6 have all received the coveted TSP+ rating.
The Mazda6 and Lincoln MKZ have both been completely redesigned, and both received Acceptable ratings in the small overlap test. The Honda Civic, coming off its emergency refresh for 2013, is the first small car to be subjected to the small overlap test, and IIHS says that one of the car's many upgrades includes a stiffer front structure allowing it to receive Good ratings in all categories. Similarly, the XC60 gets all Good ratings thanks to, according to IIHS, Volvo updating the airbag software allowing the side airbags to inflate during the small overlap test.
The 2014 Subaru Forester has not yet been subjected to the small overlap test, so it must make do with just a Top Safety Pick rating until the IIHS tests small utility vehicles, which is expected to happen later in the spring.
Volvo recalls small batch of cars — 74, exactly — for potentially serious steering issue
Tue, Jan 17 2023Volvo announced earlier in January that it is recalling a small number of cars (just 74) to address a potentially serious issue with their steering boxes. An extra screw unintentionally inserted during assembly can work its way into the steering gear, potentially locking it up and causing a loss of steering control. The issue is present only on a small number of 2019-2022 Volvo V60CCs, XC60s and XC90s. Per Volvo, the issue can be traced back to a single assembly line station that erroneously double-fed screws into the affected units, allowing the loose hardware to remain behind, where it can foul the gear. Volvo says it knows which steering boxes were assembled this way, allowing them to recall only the units in question. Customers whose cars exhibit the defect will not show any outward symptoms until the screw begins to interfere with steering box operation, which could be indicated by a grinding noise when turning the wheel. Volvo has already notified dealers of the issue and will send notices to the 74 owners in March. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. Volvo XC40 Recharge Luggage Test: How much fits in the cargo area?
Mon, Nov 27 2023Note: This post has been updated because, well, I goofed a bit. Turns out it can probably hold just a wee bit more than I originally thought. Oh, and I added a bit about the frunk. The Volvo XC40 Recharge is the all-electric version of Volvo's subcompact SUV that is also available in gas-only versions. According to the uniquely extensive cargo dimensions Volvo shares for its vehicles, every XC40 regardless of power source has the same 20.4 cubic-feet of cargo space as measured from the floor to the headliner with the front seat "limited by vertical plane tangential to the rear side of the second seatback." Like I said, uniquely extensive. There is 16 cubic-feet when measured to the top of the seatback, which is probably more applicable to my luggage tests, but other car companies don't provide those measurements, and if they do, they don't actually indicate as such — and make it seem like their SUVs are smaller and less competitive than they actually are. One such example is Mercedes-Benz and the GLB/EQB, which is one of the XC40's chief competitors. Its specs say it has 24.0 cubic-feet of cargo space (almost certainly the top-of-the-seatback measurement), but it definitely has more than that since it can hold roughly the same amount of stuff inside its boxy cargo area as a Subaru Outback. In other words, the XC40 is very unlikely to be getting best-in-segment status here. But who knows, let's see! This is a pretty hatchbacky space, so still not looking good for the XC40 toppling the GLB/EQB. It does look pretty similar to the Q4 E-Tron, so let's bring that into the equation. As you can see, the XC40 has a large, hatchback-style cargo cover. That means I'll have to test with and without that cover. As with every Luggage Test, I use two midsize roller suitcases that would need to be checked in at the airport (26 inches long, 16 wide, 11 deep), two roll-aboard suitcases that just barely fit in the overhead (24L x 15W x 10D), and one smaller roll-aboard that fits easily (23L x 15W x 10D). I also include my wife's fancy overnight bag just to spruce things up a bit (21L x 12W x 12D). So yeah, I neglected to take a shot of the bags with the cargo cover attached. Sorry. Nevertheless, as you can kinda see here, I could fit the four biggest bags with the cargo cover being propped up by them. This would be worse than the Q4 E-Tron, which could fit all but the fancy bag.
