1983 Volvo 242 Glt Group A Homologation on 2040-cars
Hooper, Utah, United States
This listing is for a 1983 Volvo 242 GLT Group A Homologation. It has the factory 2.1L intercooled-turbo motor. I installed a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive last year. It is also running the factory 3.92 rear end. It has current registration and is driven every weekend.
This car is special as there were very few (less than 500) factory intercooled models in 1983. These cars also had a special front grille and hood that is very sought after in the Volvo world. Being a GLT model, it has power windows, door locks, and mirrors. The mirrors weren't working when I got it. I never diagnosed the issue, but the windows and locks work well. It has factory air-conditioning, but would require at least a recharge to be functioning. The heater works fantastic though. The power steering works perfect. The car came with cruise control, but it wasn't working when I got it. I removed the under-hood pieces to it to clean up the engine bay, but it is all included with the car. First the bad. It needs an exhaust. My local shops wanted between $250-$300 for complete replacement. It is broken off just in front of the rear end. This just happened a couple of weeks ago. The clutch also slips under full boost in 4th and 5th gears. 1st through 3rd have been fine, I'm guessing due to the rear end ratio. 4th and 5th only slips here and there and only at full boost. All gears shift well and the electronic overdrive works fine also. The brakes, tires, and suspension are all in good condition. The front struts were replaced a few weeks ago. The front springs have been cut to lower the car a couple of inches. The rear springs have been replaced with cut 240 wagon springs. I have the factory rear coils and can include them or install them in the car. It rides well. My wife can attest to that. I gave it a tune up when I got it a couple years ago. It has only had about 10,000 miles since then. I installed a new timing belt kit at that time also. I cleaned the breather box and intercooler then as well. I have only run full synthetic oil in it since I bought it. The engine runs well, but does take 30 seconds or so to warm up when it's cold outside. I replaced the in-tank fuel pump, main fuel pump, and fuel relay a year ago. The body is straight with very little rust. It does have a thin layer of cheap spray paint on it which is already wearing through. I was going to sand it off this next summer, and it doesn't seem like it would be too difficult on most of the car. The interior is in good shape minus the seats. The back seat is well cracked along the top. I have a black replacement top for the rear shelf. The gauges have Dave Barton overlays on them that are a year old. All of the gauges work well. The factory speedo was an 85 MPH unit that I swapped for a 120 MPH unit right after getting the car. I have the 85 MPH unit that will be included with the car. I love this car. It is the pinnacle of all of the Volvo's I have owned. I'm replacing it with a 240 wagon as it is a more family-friendly vehicle. Two more Volvo Concept C Coupe teasers drop [w/videos]
Wed, 28 Aug 2013Volvo is planning to take the wraps off its Concept C Coupe tomorrow ahead of an official unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show. If you just can't wait until then, though, Volvo has released two more teaser videos for the new concept.
Like the video from earlier in the week, we get a couple more sneak peeks of the stylish two-door including our first glimpse of the interior. The highly conceptual concept likely hints at a future coupe for the Swedish automaker, and after dropping the C30 and C70 from its lineup over the last couple years, this can't come soon enough. Scroll down to watch both new teaser videos, and stay tuned to see more on this car tomorrow.
Tesla poaches Volvo interior engineering boss Anders Bell
Tue, Dec 20 2016Tesla is the belle of both the eco-friendly and luxury balls. The company's Model S and Model X are status symbols, and benchmarks for the ability to blend both green credentials with performance and a luxury driving experience. That said, their cabins aren't necessarily deserving of those credentials. That's why this little news nugget is such a big deal for the California brand. Electrek reports that Tesla has poached Anders Bell from Volvo. Bell confirmed the move via his LinkedIn page. The (now former) head of interior engineering and senior director of engineering was responsible for the Swedish brand's raft of high-quality, beautifully crafted cabins. Doubtless Tesla wants a piece of the critical acclaim Volvo's received for the interior design and quality on its 90-series models – XC90, S90, and V90. The move is, at least based on Electrek's stalking of Bell's LinkedIn profile, a big loss for Volvo. Bell joined the Swedish brand fresh out of Halmstad College's engineering program in 1998 and has spent his entire career working for Gothenburg and its various owners. That included a nearly four-year stint in China after Geely bought Volvo from Ford, assisting with the Chinese launch of the XC60. Bell's listed his final project with his previous employer as "development, design, and release of Volvo interiors to be launched 2017-2018 and concept definitions of interiors 2019 and beyond." That means that while Bell started at Palo Alto this month, his impact at Volvo won't fade for several more years. Recharge Wrap-up: video touts Volvo electric buses, Nissan and BMW build EV chargers in S. Africa
Wed, May 27 2015Volvo is touting the advantages of electric buses in a new video. The short film, called Route 55, promotes the ElectriCity Project for public transport, and, more specifically, the new electric bus route in Gothenburg, Sweden. The new route debuts June 15 using Volvo electric and hybrid buses. In the video, two teenagers are seen waiting for the bus. As one boards, the other asks her out from the sidewalk, but she can't hear him over the noise of the diesel bus, which then closes its doors and drives away. The film asks, "What if this bus had been silent?" See the video above, and read more in the press release below. BMW and Nissan will build an EV charging network across South Africa. Through 2017, the two automakers will build fast-charging and AC stations around the country in order to encourage the adoption of EVs. Nissan has been selling the Leaf in South Africa since 2013, and BMW introduced the i3 and i8 in March. "In order for the introduction and expansion of electric vehicles as well as plug-in hybrid electric vehicles to be successful in this market, we need to work together," says BMW South Africa Managing Director Tim Abbott. Read more at Automotive News Europe. The Renault-Nissan Alliance will provide the United Nations with 200 electric vehicles for the COP21 climate conference in Paris. The fleet of vehicles includes the Nissan Leaf and e-NV200, as well as the Renault ZOE, Kangoo ZE and Fluence ZE. The entire passenger car shuttle fleet will use all-electric vehicles as some 20,000 UN attendees descend upon Paris from November 30 to December 11. "Thanks to the Alliance's fleet of 100-percent electric vehicles, it will contribute to our goal of achieving a carbon neutral event," says French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development and COP21 President Laurent Fabius. "The technology of electric vehicles helps reduce greenhouse gases in the transportation sector efficiently." Read more from Renault. Visa will be the official title sponsor of the Formula E London ePrix. Officially called the "2015 FIA Formula E Visa London ePrix," the races on June 27 and 28 will be the last of the electric racing series's inaugural season. Visa Europe will award the Visa Fastest Lap trophy after the each round, and will have interactive activities at the race's eVillage.
