What can I say! This is a rare condition 1979 242 GT, a member of the famous 240 series family of Volvos. This model was only made from 1978-1980. In 1981 they renamed this model the 240 Turbo. I am the third owner of this car and bought it from a collector's warehouse called Exotic Classics. This car has been babied and maintained and I have all the records to include the original purchase order in 1979.
This car comes with:
-Brand new tires w/reconditioned Virgo wheels - Also included are the original GT wheels with new Pirelli tires
-New air conditioner
-New fuel injectors
-New audio system
-New alternator Inspection Report from Steve Linden (available upon request), author of Car Collecting: Everything You Need to Know and who has done much work with Jay Leno on his vehicles.

"Overall the vehicle presents very well. Fit of body panels is as new and finish of body panels is very good but not perfect, with any minor defects noted in the report. Body panels are straight and the paint exhibits a very nice luster. The vehicle appears to be free of accident damage/repair and rust damage/repair. The interior is in excellent condition, exhibiting little if any wear and tear with any defects noted in the report. The engine bay and truck are original and un-detailed and present very well. It must be observed that the undercarriage is in remarkable condition for a vehicle of this age. There is virtually no weather related degradation. One must be led to the conclusion that this vehicle has been garaged its entire life, and used sparingly, if ever, in snow or rain. All maintenance is up to day and everything on the vehicle functions properly. The engine starts easily with no smoke or unusual sounds. After a few seconds it settles into a smooth idle. The engine accelerates aggressively and the transmission shifts smoothly through the gears. The car stops in a straight line even under heavy braking. There are no unusual squeaks or rattles. The vehicle is a pleasure to drive."

Everything works on this car: gauges, fog lights, clock, air conditioner, new audio system, electronic overdrive, and the sunroof (no leaks) There are some normal wear areas and dings in the paint but overall this car needs absolutely nothing done to it; I drive it every day and recently took it on a 7 hour road trip from Tampa to Lynn Haven…no issues! There are no rust areas but the window tint could use a new application. Please feel free with email me to request custom pictures. I will even entertain phone calls w/serious interested buyers to enable you to ask all the questions you can think of. There will be a $1000 deposit (negotiable) within 3 days of the end of the auction. I will help arrange shipping if needed but will not pay for it; I am located in Tampa Florida.

Good Luck!

Volvo finds a way to turn body panels into batteries [w/video]

Thu, 17 Oct 2013

One of the problems with designing an electric vehicle is figuring out where to fit the battery pack. Volvo - as a part of a European Union research project - is working on a way around this issue by replacing standard parts with lightweight components that double as batteries on both conventional and plug-in vehicles. The image above shows one such piece on a Volvo S80. While looking like nothing more than a carbon fiber plenum cover, the piece is actually a battery pack that can store and supply enough energy for the car's entire 12-volt power system.
The parts are made by sandwiching super capacitors (which can charge faster than standard batteries) in between layers of carbon fiber. They can then be formed to replace numerous body panels such as the decklid, roof or door panels. Volvo says that the replacing the body panels and batteries with these nano batteries can help reduce the vehicle's weight by as much as 15 percent. It has taken more than three years just to design the batteries, so there's no telling when, or if, we'll ever see this technology used on a production vehicle. Scroll down for a video and press release on Volvo's innovative battery technology.

Volvo aligning model range into three families

Thu, 28 Aug 2014

Things have been slow in Gothenburg the past few years, but they're picking up speed. The only new model Volvo has released in the past four years since it was taken over by Geely - that being the V40 introduced in 2012 - started its development when the company was still under Ford's umbrella. But now the Swedish automaker is preparing to launch a volley of new models, and the new XC90 is only the starting point.
Volvo has set out to align its product portfolio into three model families - 40, 60 and 90 - each with three body-styles: sedan, wagon and crossover. (Volvo presented a tidy little table, which we've replicated below, to outline what it has in store.) That means a new S40 sedan and XC40 crossover as well as a replacement for the current V40 wagon, all to be based on a new platform shared with Geely. It also means replacements for the current S60, V60 and XC60 to be based on the modular SPA platform that underpins the new XC90, as well as a new S90 sedan to replace the S80 and a new V90 wagon to succeed the V70 and move it up-market above the V60.
All of these models are set to arrive within the next four years as Volvo moves to replace its entire lineup by 2019 and subsequently move to more competitive seven-to-eight-year product life-cycles. But as aggressively as Volvo is pursuing this renewal of its core models, they're not the only things Gothenburg has in store. Keep reading below to learn how Volvo's model line will flesh out over the coming years.

How the Chinese tycoon driving Volvo plans to tackle Tesla

Sun, Sep 5 2021

HANGZHOU, China — "Do you know how big Volvo is?" asked Don Leclair, finance chief at Ford. It was 2008, and Leclair was responding to an offer from a little-known Chinese businessman to purchase the Swedish carmaker, which Ford owned. The businessman, Li Shufu, had a company with less than half Volvo's sales and a flagship model, King Kong, almost unknown outside China. He was politely shown the door of the "Glass House," Ford's iconic headquarters near Detroit, according to two people who were at the meeting. Ford's Leclair did not respond to requests for comment about the episode. Fast-forward to 2021 and Li Shufu's company, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, is one of the biggest-selling automakers in the world's biggest auto market. It controls not only Volvo Cars but also a clutch of global auto brands, and a significant stake in German giant Daimler AG, the maker of Mercedes-Benz. These names are now part of its plans for a revolution in autos. Geely is preparing Volvo for a listing on the Nasdaq Stockholm exchange as a route towards the future of transportation: One where cars are part of an electrified network of mobility services, driving themselves, connecting to each other and — like cellphones — generating an array of data and new business opportunities. It's a vision more Silicon Valley than Detroit, where traditional automakers globally are chasing another giant — Tesla Inc. Li Shufu and his advisers eventually convinced Ford to part with Volvo in 2010 for $1.8 billion. It was the first in a string of deals, tapping brands such as Lotus, Smart and the London Electric Vehicle Company to form a network that he calls a "bigger circle of friends" across industry segments. Li Shufu sees them as building blocks to help Geely compete in a future where autos are not vehicles, but "service providers," he told Reuters in his management suite at Geely's headquarters in Hangzhou, eastern China. In that business model, cars will be available on subscription and offer services such as making payments and in-car apps. They will update their own software, and spawn opportunities in the same way as the mobile operating systems developed by Apple Inc and Google. "We are trying to create an automotive ecosystem similar to Android," he said. Li Shufu, 58, recently adopted a foreign first name - Eric - because he liked the sound of it.
