Here we have a 1981 VW Rabbit LS Diesel with 4 speed trans. 171,153 miles.

The Rabbit LS if you don't already know is the "fancy" version with air conditioning, cruise control and extra trim.

This little rabbit in my opinion is in overall good condition for being over 30 years old, ( it was in storage for some time ) I have included LOTS of photos so please take a good look. There is some rust as you might come to expect from a car that has been in the north, but could be fixed if it bothers you or if your looking for a little project. But with that said I have seen them WAY, WAY worse ! There are some little dings and scratches and the paint is fading on the roof and hood. I tried to get it all in the pictures. Like I said, It really does not look bad for the year and I get complements all the time about the condition its in but you judge for yourself.

The interior is a little dirty as you can see but the worst thing is the headliner, like most of the old Rabbits it has a bunch of tacks holding it up and is torn in some areas. Also it must have a torn shifting boot as you can tell from the duct tape at the top near the knob. The radio is new but I have not yet figured out how to turn it on so I can not tell you if it even works. The trip meter works but it can not be re-set. The hood release pull cable is broken so that will need to be replaced, if you don't mind popping it from outside like me then its no problem. The dash is VERY NICE ! Not all cracked up.

Now onto the engine, It has at some point been changed over to a newer 1.6L hydraulic lifter engine, good chance it came out of a Jetta or Golf. Fires right off with a tap of the key. I have no way of knowing how many miles the engine has on it but it does seem to be in good shape with good power and very little smoke, Its running in the out door photos.

The timing belt has recently been replaced, newer battery, new coolant over-flow tank and the alternator looks to have been replaced at some time.

The car seems tight and handles nice ! The shifter is not all lose and sloppy like some, brakes are nice and stop on a dime, clutch feels good. It really drives nice.

I have been driving it as a everyday car and have been getting 50+ MPG.

I have 2 VW diesels and am looking to sell them both and get 1 brand new one.

I am offering the little Rabbit with NO warranties expressed nor impelled, if you want that you had better go buy a brand new one. Otherwise this  30+ year old VW is sold as-is were is.

I invite and encourage any and all questions that you may have, please feel free to ask.

If you are bidder with less than a 50 feedback rating you must contact me prior to placing a bid, if not I will cancel it.

The car can be stored here outside for 30 days or so but must be paid for in full with-in 7 days of auction end, if its not than I will assume you no longer have interest in the car and will re-sell it, and thusly you will not receive your deposit back. As the old saying goes "It only takes a few bad apples"

So with all that said good luck and happy bidding !

Volkswagen decides to keep Lamborghini and Ducati, transfers Bentley to Audi

Tue, Dec 15 2020

Investors in the market for a high-end Italian manufacturer that peddles performance will need to keep looking. Volkswagen announced it will hang on to Lamborghini and Ducati in the foreseeable future. Executives in Wolfsburg, Germany, are making far-reaching changes to the Volkswagen Group to reboot it with a big focus on technology. Credible rumors claimed that the people in charge of the carmaker wanted to carve out Lamborghini — which owns Ducati — and ultimately list it, or at least a chunk of it, on the stock market in order to fast-track the group's electrification strategy. Going electric is expensive, so selling Lamborghini would have helped fund the expansion, and high-octane supercars don't easily go hand-in-hand with zero-emissions cars. "Volkswagen needs to change from a collection of valuable brands and fascinating combustion-engine products that thrill customers with superb engineering to a digital company that reliably operates millions of mobility devices worldwide," summed up Herbert Diess, the group's boss, during a September 2020 meeting. His team ultimately decided not to fully divest both brands. It's too early to tell whether part of Lamborghini will be listed on the stock market, as some insiders have suggested, or if those plans are off the table, too. Changes are coming to Bentley as well. While it's not being spun off either, it will fall under the Audi umbrella starting on March 1, 2021. Volkswagen explained linking the two companies will "allow for synergies to be achieved as part of the electrification strategy of the two premium brands," a statement which suggests they will share a growing number of components during the 2020s. Unverified rumors claim that Bentley will notably get its own version of an ultra-luxurious electric SUV code-named Landjet that Audi is currently developing. We've reached out to Bentley for more details, and we'll update this story if we learn more. Bugatti's future wasn't mentioned in the release; unconfirmed reports suggest it will be traded for a stake in Croatian start-up Rimac. Volkswagen's supervisory board also reaffirmed its support for Diess, who was appointed CEO in 2018 and who has played a significant role in the company's transformation. Finally, the board approved the development of what a statement refers to a future leading electric vehicle sold by the Volkswagen brand that will be developed and manufactured in Wolfsburg.

Volkswagen rules out Eos successor

Fri, Jan 16 2015

When Volkswagen introduced the Eos back in 2006, hard-top convertibles were all the rage – in North America, in Europe and around the world. But the trend, billed at the time as the best of both worlds, has long since subsided, leading to VW axing the Eos several months ago. And don't count on it getting a successor at some point down the line, either. At the Detroit Auto Show earlier this week, VW R&D chief Heinz-Jakob Neusser told Autocar that the Eos is down for the count. In fact it is "maybe the first model we take out of the market" in a reversal of the momentum that has seen the German automaker expand its lineup incrementally over the past several years – although the Chrysler-built Routan minivan was also canceled around the same time. The place the Eos occupied in VW's North American lineup is largely being taken by the more charismatic Beetle Convertible, and in Europe and other markets by the Golf Cabriolet that's still based on the previous-generation hatchback. The Eos, however, isn't the only hard-top convertible withdrawn from the market in recent years. Tin-top cabrios like the Lexus IS and SC, Cadillac XLR, Chrysler 200, Pontiac G6 and Volvo C70 have all gone the way of the dodo – as have Euro-market coupe-convertibles versions of models like the Ford Focus, Opel Astra, and Peugeot 207. The arrival of the Buick Cascada just goes to show that soft-roofed convertibles have won out, particularly as far as four-seat cabrios are concerned. The one notable exception where folding hard-tops are still gaining traction is among mid-engined exotic supercars like the Ferrari 458 and McLaren 650S, both of which opted for solid folding roofs instead of fabric ones. We've yet to see, however, which approach Lamborghini will take with the Huracan Spyder or Audi will with the next-generation R8, the predecessors of both of which featured fabric roofs.

VW's Skoda says Ukraine partner making wire harnesses again

Tue, Mar 22 2022

PRAGUE — Skoda Auto, part of the Volkswagen Group, said on Tuesday its supply partner in Ukraine had decided to restart production of wire harnesses which should allow the Czech carmaker to resume production of its electric ENYAQ iV model. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has added to supply chain problems for global automakers — which were already struggling with semiconductor shortages that have cut production — with a break in deliveries of wire harnesses from the war-torn country. While Skoda, the Czech Republic's biggest exporter, said it expects the supply of semiconductors to improve in the second half of 2022, it said the war in Ukraine and supply bottlenecks will put a significant burden on its operating business. Skoda's 2021 deliveries fell 12.6% year-on-year and earlier this month it stopped production of the ENYAQ because of harness shortages, saying that two other models were at risk because of the lack of availability of the component. "Our partner ... in Ukraine decided to restart production of wire harnesses this week, with full service and full security for workers there," Karsten Schnake, Skoda's board member for purchasing, said during its online 2021 earnings presentation. Wire harnesses form a key part of a car's electrical system, which group and guide cables inside the vehicle. "We decided to double the production in case something is going wrong, and this production will be ramped up in an alternative factory," Schnake said, adding that work there would start in three or four weeks. "Hopefully we can restart production of ENYAQ one or two weeks later when we have wire harnesses," Schnake said. Skoda delivered 878,200 cars worldwide in 2021, the first time that this had fallen below the 1 million mark since 2013. Nevertheless, the VW group brand's sales revenue rose 3.9% to 17.7 billion euros ($19.5 billion) in 2021 and operating profit rose 43.2% to 1.1 billion euros ($1 billion) as it took cost measures. Skoda did not give a financial or production outlook, saying there were still considerable uncertainties as a result of the conflict in Ukraine and the impact on its Russian operations. Skoda, like VW, has suspended production and other business activities in Russia, which was its second-largest market last year, with 90,400 vehicles delivered.
