The timing belt and water pump were all replaced at 90,000 miles. The battery and tires are 75% new (Les Schwab 80,000 mile all season radials). This car runs perfect, and has completely straight body with no dings, excellent paint (some rock chips on the hood) with still bright clear coat, good clean upholstery, new full-size spare tire, CD and cassette/FM high fidelity sound. The weathered headlight assembles were replaced new to give it that "showroom" glow. We average 34 mpg, with 42 mpg on trips to the coast. We just bought a new diesel and it is time to sell the Passat after enjoying it for the last 80,000 miles. Remember, it is a used car. Free AUTOCHECK!"

This 2005 TDI wagon needs absolutely no repairs or conditioning and has had oil and filter changes every 10,000 miles using only genuine Total Quartz 504/507 5/30w oil and German made Mann filters. If you are a TDI lover you know what I'm talking about. If not, it just means that with this maintenance these engines easily go 300,000 miles.
The car has 139,998 miles on it.
All of the following maintenance have been serviced recently: New constant velocity joints, rubber boots, front wheel bearings, brake pads, fluid and rotors, alignment, new tension pulley, all new belts, glow plugs, and all new under cowlings, and a new hood liner.
The timing belt and water pump were all replaced at 90,000 miles. The  battery and  tires are 75% new (Les Schwab, 80,000 mile all-season radials). This car has always run perfectly, and has a completely straight body with no dings, no accidents, excellent paint (some rock chips on the hood) with still bright clear coat, good clean upholstery, new full-size spare tire, CD and cassette/FM high fidelity sound. The hazy headlight assembles were replaced new 2 years ago to give the headlights that crystal clear "showroom" glow. Nothing needs to be done to this car. I have always used a MightyVac pump to change the oil and filter from the top without getting dirty and without having to go under the car or remove the cowlings, and I can describe how you can DIY and save lots of money. The only reason I had the cowlings replaced is because the one time I had Jiffy Lube do the job they did not put them back on correctly and they fell off on the highway!!!
We average 34 mpg to and from work, with 42 mpg on trips to the coast (62 mph speed limit) and 38 mpg on summer trips to the Columbia Gorge (70 mph speed limit). We just bought a new SUV diesel and it is time to sell the Passat after enjoying it for the last 80,000 miles. Remember,  it's in great condition but it is a used car and has minor blemishes accumulated over the last 139000 miles. Thanks for looking.

VW Jetta GLI, Peugeot 505 are MotorWeek's 1986 Euro sport sedan alternatives

Tue, Dec 23 2014

Video reviews have become a mainstay of automotive journalism, but long before every publication turned on its video cameras and started uploading to YouTube, there was one program that was blazing the trail. That, of course, was MotorWeek, the television car program produced by Maryland Public Television and hosted by the inimitable John Davis. The program first aired back in 1981, and after more than three decades in the business, it's got a considerable archive of old episodes to unearth. In this latest gem recovered from the MotorWeek back catalog, the program pitted two European sports sedans against each other: a Volkswagen Jetta GLI and a Peugeot 505 Turbo. That's right: back in the 1980s, Peugeot was still competing in the US marketplace. The forced-induction 505 may not have been enough to keep the French automaker in American showrooms, but it was enough to stand up against the VW. Which one won MotorWeek's favor? You'll just have to watch the six-minute clip to find out. News Source: MotorWeek via YouTube Volkswagen Peugeot Economy Cars Performance Videos Sedan vw jetta gli

Jack Kevorkian's old van up for sale in Detroit [w/video]

Tue, Aug 25 2015

With Halloween fast approaching, a Detroit pawnshop is offering a macabre automotive memento to park in your garage – Dr. Jack Kevorkian's Volkswagen Bus (pictured above in 1990). The van is currently a broken-down heap with the interior a mess, but the title and registration proves Dr. Kevorkian's ownership. The pawnbroker is hoping to get $40,000 for the ghoulish ride, according to an interview with Fox 2 News. If you're unfamiliar, Dr. Kevorkian rose to prominence in the '90s when he helped with 130 assisted suicides. It earned him the nickname Dr. Death, and he was eventually convicted of second-degree murder in 1999, serving eight years in prison. He died in 2011. Kevorkian's VW has had quite a history. The van was reportedly due to be destroyed in 1997 but somehow avoided the crusher. A retired VW parts dealer put the bus on eBay in 2010, but the vehicle was removed for violating the site's policy against selling "murderabilia." The VW eventually went to auction, but this report said that it hasn't moved in over two years. The video below shows the decrepit vehicle currently, and the gallery above has period photos from the Associated Press. This content is hosted by a third party. Small 3-row crossover SUVs specifications compared on paper

Thu, May 10 2018

There's no shortage of three-row vehicles on the market for carrying seven or more people and their stuff wherever they all need to go. Just about every car company has at least one large crossover or traditional SUV with three rows of seats, and there are still plenty of minivans to pick from. But most of these vehicles are large, pricey, and frequently thirsty. Fortunately, there are still a handful of smaller crossovers that deliver 7-passenger capability in a smaller, cheaper package. We've gathered four of the small three-row set here to compare them based on space, power, fuel economy, pricing, and more. They include the very old Dodge Journey, the slightly less old Mitsubishi Outlander and Kia Sorento, and the relatively new Volkswagen Tiguan. You can see the raw numbers in the chart below, followed by a more detailed breakdown and some notes on how we like each of these vehicles. For in-depth opinions on the vehicles, be sure to check out our full reviews, and if you want to compare these with other vehicles, try out our comparison tools. Engines, transmissions and performance Interestingly, three of the four crossovers here utilize similar engines for their four-cylinder offerings. The Dodge, Kia and Mitsubishi all feature naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. Only the Volkswagen Tiguan chooses turbocharging and a smaller 2.0-liter displacement. But because of its turbocharger, the Tiguan's four-cylinder is easily the most potent, making a healthy 221 pound-feet of torque, which is more than 40 more than the Sorento, the crossover with the next most torque. The VW is also second-most powerful, just one horse behind the Sorento. The Outlander is the least powerful in the four-cylinder class. The Journey is only barely better, but it will probably feel as slow or worse thanks to its ancient 4-speed automatic. The four-cylinder Sorento and Outlander each have 6-speed automatic transmissions, and the VW has an 8-speed. The Sorento with a V6 has an 8-speed, too. View 17 Photos Moving up to the V6 class, the Outlander is once again at the bottom. It actually makes less torque than the turbo VW Tiguan. The Journey and Sorento are almost perfectly matched. The Journey makes a bit more torque; the Sorento makes a bit more power. The Journey also gets upgraded to a 6-speed automatic. Another powertrain consideration to bare in mind is whether all-wheel-drive is necessary.
