2004 Volkswagen Passat Gl Tdi, Diesel on 2040-cars
Fincastle, Virginia, United States
|
This 2004 Passat TDI is a rare diesel car that I have owned for more than half of its mileage. I will continue to drive it 45 miles or so daily with confidence until it sells so the mileage will be increasing. The fuel economy is excellent. Visit the government crash test websites to review the high scores that it has for crash safety. It was recently inspected and passed without issues. I changed the oil and filter this month. The heat and air conditioning works as it should. The Tiptronic transmission option makes this car really fun to drive if you want to take control over the automatic transmission. It will have the owners manual, and 2 key/remotes. It is clean and has never been smoked in. It is showing signs of its age such as cloth seat wear, interior door handle finish wear, an intermittent temperature sensor for the dashboard temp indicator (does not affect engine behavior) and an intermittent left rear electric door lock that works manually. Most paint has chips have been filled over to prevent rust. There a few minor dings on the body. The pictures detail the rough spots. It is soon due for a timing service that is customary for this engine as preventive maintenance. This is a used car that I am selling as is without any warranty, no shipping, and no delivery. The buyer must make arrangements to pick up or transfer it. The title is clear and will be signed when the transaction is confirmed through Paypal. A down payment deposit to paypal of $1000 is required. Buyer must arrange for balance payoff (paypal preferred) and pickup within 14 days of purchase (negotiable). The down payment may be non-refundable if the sale is not completed in agreed terms. |

Move over Nissan Leaf, VW E-Golf is the new sales champ in Europe
Wed, Apr 8 2015Western European sales of the Volkswagen e-Golf electric vehicle got just extra charged up, and not just with electricity. For the first two months of the year, the VW EV overtook longstanding EV leader Nissan Leaf in terms of sales on the Continent, Aid Newsletter says. In fact, the e-Golf's 2,150 units sold in Western Europe through February was 400 more than what the Leaf managed. Norway was the key country here. With lots of EV incentives, the Leaf (not to mention the Tesla Model S) have always sold well there, but Volkswagen, through a big advertising push, moved more than three times as many e-Golfs in Norway as Nissan did the Leaf. It's sure a far cry from the US, where the Leaf remains the best-selling electric vehicle. Through February, Nissan moved 2,268 Leaf vehicles in the US, compared to 311 e-Golfs sold here. March sales didn't do much to change the balance, with 195 e-Golfs sold versus 1,817 Leafs. The e-Golf, which retails for about $36,000 in the States, gets an EPA-rated 116 miles per gallon equivalent, barely edging out the Leaf's 114 MPGe rating. The e-Golf can also go 83 miles on a single charge. Our review of the e-Golf is available here. Giorgetto Giugiaro launching new design firm
Mon, Sep 21 2015Giorgetto Giugiaro may have sold his remaining shares in the Italdesign firm he started, but he's not about to retire from the business altogether. According to an interview with Automotive News Europe, he's starting a new design consultancy. And he's taking his son, Fabrizio, with him. After working for established design houses Bertone and Ghia, the celebrated designer founded Italdesign Giugiaro in 1968. In 2010 he and his son Fabrizio sold 90.1 percent of the firm to the Volkswagen Group, with Fabrizio initially carrying on as its chief designer before Wolfgang Egger replaced him. Just months ago, the Giugiaros sold their remaining stake and resigned their seats on the board of Italdesign. The move came hot on the heels of the departure of ousted board chairman Ferdinand Piech, a longtime friend of Giorgetto's and the driving force behind VW's acquisition of Italdesign. Just because they're no longer affiliated with Italdesign Giugiaro doesn't mean, however, that the Giugiaros won't be designing cars anymore. They're reportedly working on establishing a new design house, and are discussing potential contracts with unnamed Chinese and South Korean automakers. The father-son pair could set up shop in a refurbished existing location (as the pragmatic Fabrizio favors) or build a new studio from the ground up (as the visionary father prefers). We'll have to hold on to see what direction the new firm takes, but most of all, we'll be looking forward to seeing what designs it produces.
