2000 VW Passat 2.8L V6 with a 5 speed manual transmission. To view the video with a complete description of the car, listen to it run, etc: http://youtu.be/yagNxWvYXJA

Below is pretty much what I go over in the video, except you don't get to hear the car running, watch the windows go up and down, sunroof work, view my contact information, etc. I have tried to take as many pertinent pictures of the car as I could. If you have anything specific you want to see or need to know about please let me know. I did include several undercarriage pictures as my best friend has a lift.

I used this car primarily to get my kids to and from school and their therapy appointments. I did drive it when I worked (competition staff) the 2013 Great Race (antique car rally) from Minnesota along the mighty Mississippi River to Mobile, Alabama.

I'm selling it because in three weeks I am starting Nursing school and I don't have the time to continue preventive maintenance that still need to be done and also, I cannot get to places I need to go due to clearance issues. So, I have replaced it with a daily driving Jeep.  I have the parts, just not the time. The car does Run & Drive Good.

This car has 197,800 miles though that is likely to change as I still drive it at least every other day. It gets Great gas mileage, around 24-26 MPG. The interior is in Ok condition. Some of the leather is ripped or torn. Rear seat is really good behind the drivers seat, but has tears on the passenger side, carpet could use a cleaning in back, front seats have covers on them, glove box has been fixed three times. The way it is now is still functional, just not the prettiest. I have a black glove box I will include with the car.

Features:

A/C that will get you chilly

Leather Seats

Heated Seats in the front

Sunroof

Cruise Control

6 Disc CD Changer

AM/FM Radio & Cassette Player

Power Windows

Power Locks

Front cup holders

Defrost for the front and the back glass

Rear Sunshade

Full Size Spare Tire

There is an owners manual, however it is for a 99 that we picked up at a Pull A Part junkyard.

Extras: Spare key (key will unlock the door and trunk, remote part we've never been successful programming it); 2nd Full Size Spare Tire (other is in the car already); Extra center cap.

**IF the car is purchased through Buy It Now OR the price reaches $2400. I will include the Bentley Shop Manual ($100 value).**

Preventive Maintenance Performed:

Timing Belt, Water Pump & Thermostat  (June 2013, w/documentation)

Cam Seals

Cam Tensioner Gaskets

Cam Position Sensor

Spark Plugs

Motor Mounts & Snub Mount (Sept. 2012)

Coil Pack (Nov. 2013)

Power Steering Pump (Nov. 2013)

Radiator (Nov. 2013)

ABS Module (rebuilt Jan. 2013)

A/C was completely rebuilt (Spring 2013)

Breather hose & PCV valve (March 2014)

Brakes (all four done just prior to my ownership in late 2012)

Control Arm (drivers side) (May 2014)

Flex pipe (drivers side) (Feb. 2013)

CV axle (Passenger side) ( Feb. 2014)

Windshield replaced by ABRA, Oct. 2013 after a trip to TX where an 18 wheeler kicked up metal debris cracking the windshield

Cabin Air Filter & Air Filter last Spring

Kumho Ecsta tires (put on June 2013)

Windshield wipers (May 2014)

Transmission Fluid (May 2014) * Old Fluid was still in great condition*

Oil Changes were done every 3-4 months, depending my traveling. Every other change we rotated the tires, inspected them & the brakes.

I would like to note that I was in a minor fender bender In October of last year. Everything has been fixed except the windshield fluid bottle & putting silicone beneath the ECM box.

What needs to be done (Preventive Maintenance):

Check Engine Light is ON:  It is on ONLY because of the air pump not working. I HAVE one I just don't have the time to install it. The codes are P1423 & P1411.

Windshield Fluid Light is ON:  Bottle has not been installed. I HAVE one again, I just don't have the time. This does require the lines that were severed in the accident to be spliced.

Some mornings when you crank the car, the cam chain rattles for a short time on the passenger side. I have the cam tensioner pads, valve cover gasket & the cam tensioner tool to do the job that I am including with the car. There is a slight oil leak, about six drops the size of quarters everyday that you drive it.

ECM box needs to be taken out and silicon put on the bottom of it as it shifted a little bit causing it to leak when it rains.

All the drain holes were cleaned out back in April.

The car is Rust Free. Clearcoat is peeling in a few areas, primarily in front of the sunroof.

I've really enjoyed having the car, it gets great gas mileage and will get up and go! This car has saved me several mornings when getting my teen daughter to school before the bell rings :)

The Traction control works Great on this car. This past winter I got to experience it when the infamous weather that "paralyzed" Atlanta hit us as well. I watched cars slide in front of me and beside me, including a BMW that gave up, parked at a gas station. This car gracefully climbed up several hills allowing my kids and I to get home from their therapy appointments!

What my kids and I will miss most about this car are the heated seats, the heater itself and the defrosters. Usually within 15 minutes of driving down the road you're ready to strip layers of clothing off because it gets nice and toasty warm. The defrosters are by far the best I had ever had. It doesn't take very long for the ice to melt off the back glass or the windshield. Imagine that your neighbor who started their vehicle before you are still scrapping their windshield as you're driving off!

We have really enjoyed the car and hope that someone else will enjoy the car as much as we have.

The car has a clear title and is ready to be yours!

We can deliver the car within 100 miles

It is located 30 minutes from Chattanooga, 2 hours from Atlanta and 3 hours from Nashville.

A deposit of $250 (PayPal) is required within 72 hours of Auction End.  If you need my contact information to ask any specific questions, please view the video and toward the end it will be listed. Or you may message me through Ebay.

Foreign automakers pay from $38 to $65 per hour to non-union workers

Sun, Mar 29 2015

As leaders for the United Auto Workers gather in Detroit for their Special Convention on Collective Bargaining to work out the negotiating stance for this year's new labor agreements with the Detroit 3 automakers, what they most want to do is figure out how to eliminate the two-tier wage scale. However, the lower Tier 2 wage has allowed the domestic automakers to reduce their labor costs, hire more workers, and compete better with their import competition. As it stands, per-hour labor rates including benefits are $58 at General Motors, $57 at Ford, and $48 at Fiat-Chrysler – a reflection of FCA's much greater number of Tier 2 workers. The Center for Automotive Research released a study of labor rates (including benefits) that put numbers to what the imports pay: Mercedes-Benz pays the most, at an average of $65 per hour, Volkswagen pays the least, at $38 per hour, and BMW is just a hair above that at $39 per hour. Among the Detroit competitors, Honda workers earn an average of $49 per hour, at Toyota it's $48 per hour, Nissan is $42 per hour, and Hyundai-Kia pays $41 per hour. The lower import wages are aided by their greater use of temporary workers compared to the domestics. Automotive News says the ten-dollar gap between those foreign camakers and the domestics turns out to about an extra $250 per car in labor, which adds up quickly when you're pumping out many millions of cars. That $250-per-car number is one that, come negotiating time, the Detroit 3 will want to reduce, as the UAW is trying to raise both Tier 1 and Tier 2 wages. Another wrinkle is that the domestic carmakers are considering the wide adoption of a third wage level lower than Tier 2. Some workers who do minor tasks like assembling parts trays kits and battery packs already make less than Tier 2, but the UAW will be quite wary about cementing yet another wage scale at the bottom of the system while it's trying to fight a bigger battle at the top. Tue, Oct 20 2015

Car Club USA travels back to Englishtown Raceway Park for Waterfest, a celebration of water-cooled Audi and Volkswagen cars. We catch up with a pair of VW autocross contestants racing for top prize, and a young Audi owner hoping to win best in show for the Garden State Euros car club. "It's massive," explained Garden State Euro's Ryan Topken. "You have tons of vendors, tons of events going on. There's the show. There's the drag strip. There's autocross." "It's pretty much like a frat party for Volkswagens," added fellow club member Carlin Belkowski. Will the guys from Garden State Euros head home with any hardware? Each Car Club USA episode features a different car club or event from across the US, where passionate owner communities gather to share automotive experiences and embark on incredible adventures. 2019 Toyota Corolla vs. compact hatchbacks: How they compare

Mon, Apr 30 2018

So you've read what we thought about the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback. Oh, you didn't? Well, click to your left, we'll still be here. Just made some coffee, we're good for a while. Welcome back! Wasn't that riveting? The blue paint sure is bright, eh? Well, now you must be wondering how that new 2019 Corolla stacks up with all the other hatchbacks. And, despite long thinking that hatchbacks were doomed, there are actually quite a lot of them these days. So many, in fact, that we couldn't fit them all in our space-limited comparison chart. So, with apologies to the Hyundai Elantra GT, Kia Forte and the dead-man-walking Ford Focus, these were the cars we chose based on sales and competitiveness: the Honda Civic Hatchback, Mazda3 5-Door, Volkswagen Golf, Chevrolet Cruze and Subaru Impreza. We also included the outgoing Corolla iM for reference. If you think we've left something of interest out, you can always create your own comparison. Performance and fuel economy There is but one king here, and its name is Civic. While the sedan and coupe come with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter 158-horsepower four-cylinder that's less potent than the Corolla's, the hatchback comes standard with the 1.5-liter turbo that aces the segment in terms of both acceleration and fuel economy. The Golf's acceleration should be comparable, but as you can see, it trails on fuel economy (still not bad, though). The new Corolla ends up being better than the rest with its new 168-hp four-cylinder paired to novel transmissions: a six-speed manual with rev-matched downshifting (!) and a CVT that mimics the actions of a 10-speed automatic. The Corolla does weigh more than everything else, though, so that could hamper its acceleration. Fuel economy data also wasn't announced, but Toyota indicated it would be a bit better than the old Corolla iM. Something akin to the 2.0-liter Mazda 3's numbers seems likely. As for the Mazda, its top two trim levels actually come standard with its bigger engine. In any event, despite its ample power, testing has often showed that the Civic is still the quicker car from 0 to 60 mph. And finally, let's not leave out the two on the end. The Subaru is the only car in the segment that offers all-wheel drive (the Focus RS and Golf R don't count), but is also the segment weakling now that the Corolla iM has been discontinued.
