This is a 1973 karmann Ghia Volkswagen that was traded in at a Dodge dealership here in North Alabama and whom we purchased it from.I will do my best to describe the car but by no means am I an expert on Volkswagens. The car was driven about 75 miles back after we purchased it with no problems other than it does not want to idle on its on when sitting still. This is not a show car and basically will need a FULL RESTORATION.It is missing the front door panels, headliner, rearview, rubber drivers door moulding, glove box button and door sill on drivers door. That is what we can see that is missing. The front seats are pretty much worn out and have seat covers on them,The back seat looks pretty good for its age.It has an aftermarket radio(works). The heat seems to work. The wipers work. The headlights, tail lights, dash lights work.I dont think fuel gauge is working. It looks to be missing a couple emblems on the body. All the glass is good. The motor runs but does not idle on its on,It also has oil residue on and around the engine,So basically you can probably count on an engine REBUILD also. The brakes seem to work good. The body overall seems to be pretty solid with very minimal rust,A few little bubble spots on lower panel and a couple small spots underneath(see pics). The bumpers look pretty good. The car is showing the mileage in the 20k range but have no way of knowing if it is 120k or 520k.We have the original owners manual, books and original invoice when purchased new in Texas. Also a box of what looks to be some door handle bezels and trim. The state of Alabama does not require Titles for this year model so it will come with tag receipt and a bill of sale only.So please make sure this is not a problem in your state. If you would like to come see the car(which I encouarge very highly) or have any questions please feel free ask and I will do my best to answer. The car is being Sold in AS IS condition and is located in North Alabama about 20 miles east of Huntsville. |

European car sales up 8% in February
Sat, 22 Mar 2014Three weeks ago an analyst increased projections for European car sales this year, expecting them to climb three percent compared to last year instead of 2.7 percent. That number is a postive sign after years of hard times but it turns out February was especially good, overall European sales climbing eight percent on a wave of southern European recovery and discounts - and this comes after five months of gains including January's 7.2-percent jump over the year before.
The only country of Europe's five largest markets to post a decline was France, just as it did in January, Germany, the UK and Italy posting solid double-digit numbers, Spain rocking the charts with an 18-percent increase because of a government program to encourage trade-ins.
The only brand to miss the wave was Volkswagen, dropping 0.8 percent as it watched the double-digit growth at sister brands Audi, Seat and Skoda lift the Volkswagen Group sales up by seven-percent. Peugeot overcame flat sales at Citroën to improve the group by 3.5 percent, BMW and the Mercedes-Benz/Smart combo rose by four percent, the Fiat group jumped 5.8 percent, Ford was up 11 percent, the Renault Group 11.5 percent, General Motors 12 percent and the Toyota clan by 14 percent.
Audi exec suspended over diesel scandal
Mon, Sep 19 2016So far, just one lower-level employee has plead guilty in the ongoing VW diesel scandal. Up high, the VW CEO when the scandal broke, Martin Winterkorn, resigned right after the news came out. Other executives have also quit or been suspended as well. Today, we learn that one more executive is feeling the heat a year into the scandal. Stefan Knirsch, the head of technical development at Audi and Audi board member, is going to be suspended from his position this week because of his ties to the technology that VW Group used to cheat emissions tests. The German newspaper Bild Am Sonntag reports that Knirsch not only knew that the cheating software existed but also lied about it under oath. Knirsch previously worked at Porsche and then Audi's electrification division. He left Audi's EV efforts behind in early 2015. Five reasons to love, or hate, the culture of German cars
Thu, Mar 5 2015A few months back, we took a 500-foot view of the culture of American cars, dissecting prides and prejudices on our way to the conclusion that automotive allegiances can be simultaneously embraced and derided. We had so much fun with the narrative that we decided to do it again, this time taking a look at Germany and its world-renowned lineup of automakers, including the likes of Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volkswagen, among others. Join us below as we discuss the points and counterpoints that make or have made the German auto industry what it is today. And remember, Germany did pretty much invent the automobile, after all... The V12 Engine If America is known for the proliferation of the V8 engine, an argument could be made that Germany owns the V12. Yes, of course, other companies have created V12 engines – Ferrari, Jaguar and Lamborghini immediately come to mind – but the big 12-cylinder powerplants from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, in particular, have proven to be some of the most effortless, luxurious and downright over-built engines the world has ever seen. These days, having 12 cylinders is more a case of wretched excess than ever before, and yet, you can still stroll into your local BMW or Mercedes dealership and get a brand-new 760i, S600 or even an over-the-top G65 AMG, efficiency be damned. Best of all, since the majority of these German powerhouses depreciate as fast as an anchor sinks, nearly any auto enthusiast who dreams of a dozen cylinders can satisfy their carnal desires. Current Star: 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600 View 28 Photos Diesel Engines Remember how we talked about those glorious V12 engines? Well, you can even get one from Audi that runs on diesel. If your compression-ignition fantasies err more on the side of fuel savings, that's no problem, either. Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen have got you covered, with engines starting as small as 800 cubic centimeters (Smart Fortwo). If you want something a little more practical, it's hard to argue with a VW Golf TDI, which will provide plenty of space for you and three of your best friends, plus a fair bit of luggage, all while returning 50-ish miles per gallon. For the purposes of this discussion, we'd rather focus on the asinine levels of torque provided by Germany's high-end diesel engines than the lower-end fuel sippers.
