Very rare 1971 Karmann Ghia

Before I start describing this beautiful Karmann Ghia, let me just say that of all the cars I ever owned including a great 911 Porsche 4S, this Karmann Ghia has been the most fun drive I ever owned. Every time I take it out on the road, I get at least 5 people shouting "great car" or giving me thumbs up or just commenting on the car when I am parking it. It seems everyone have their own Karmann Ghia story, used to own one or knows someone who did. What I'm trying to say, this car turns heads and gets a lot of very cool attention.

The car runs great and could become your daily drive. I used it about once a week when I go to play golf. It has a really good mpg mileage - I am always surprised how little gas this consumes. All the controls on the dashboard work except for the clock. Radio and CD work well. Engine runs great. Comes with a fire extinguisher. The car has minor rust in a few places, pretty much what you'd expect of a car that's over 40 years old. I have recently had a new layer of undercoat done to protect the car from rusting, also it has new breaks. The odometer stopped working, currently shows 31,368 miles.

For some reason the "drive type" and "body type" category in the above description gets automatically populated with "U/K". I want to underline that this is a regular car with the steering wheel on the left side (please see pictures).

I invite you to contact me with regards to any questions you may have about this auction. Also, if I missed any angle on the photos, please let me know and I will take additional pictures.

Winning bidder has 24 hours to send $500 through Paypal and seven days to pay the balance - cash or cashier's check accepted.

The car is based on Maui in Hawaii. The winning bidder will need to arrange their own shipping but I will help with delivering it to the port. The easiest way is to put it inside a container and ship to the Los Angeles or San Francisco area (usually around $1000). In case the winning bid exceeds $17,500 I will cover the shipping costs to a port in continental U.S. or Japan.

This vehicle is sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied. Any descriptions or representations are for identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have satisfied themselves as to the condition of the vehicle.

Please be sure you have the funding ready when bidding. I have a clean title. I want to thank you for viewing my auction and wish you good luck bidding. I truly hope this car finds a great new home. In a few years, it will become a classic worth a lot more....

Dyno run hints VW GTI power might be significantly underrated

Wed, Feb 4 2015

Are you one of the lucky owners of the 2015 Volkswagen GTI? If yes, you should be happy, because your 210- or 220-horsepower hot hatchback might actually have more like 260 ponies under its hood. That's according to a dyno test from a vendor on, of all places, a Ford Focus ST enthusiast forum. The company is estimating a 15-percent drivetrain loss with the GTI's best result a whopping 263 horsepower and 314 pound-feet of torque at the crank. That's a tremendous difference from the 210 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque that Volkswagen claims. Of course, this is merely one dyno session on one car. We'll have to wait until more 2015 GTI owners get on the rolling road to see if Volkswagen really was as conservative about its hot hatch's output as FocusST.org claims. Bentley Bentayga bodies to be built in Bratislava

Sun, Apr 12 2015

Volkswagen's plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, has come a long way. After getting its start in 1971 by subcontracting the production of Skoda-branded vehicles, the plant was purchased by VW in 1991, where it was quickly put to further good use as it began producing Volkswagen Passat models for export. More recently, Bratislava has become a bastion for SUVs, assembling the Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne, in addition to the VW Touareg. Color us unsurprised, then, to learn that the Bentley Bentayga, which will be built atop the same large SUV platform as its cousins from Audi, Porsche and VW, will also be used for at least part of the production of Bentley's first SUV. Surely, though, one of the hallmarks of the Bentley brand is that its cars are handmade in England. Won't the Bentley-buying populace feel slighted by production in Slovakia? Not to worry. As is the case with the Porsche Cayenne, all that will be produced in Slovakia is the Bentayga's body. According to a report from Automotive News, bodies for the Bentayga will be shipped from Bratislava to Crewe, England, where they will be finished into fully operational vehicles. In order to accommodate the additional work, VW will reportedly invest 500 million euros into the plant in Slovakia and hire hundreds of workers.

Lamborghini has been developing an IPO strategy 'for a long time'

Mon, Nov 7 2022

Porsche AG isn’t the only Volkswagen AG brand that has been quietly preparing for a potential initial public offering. Italian luxury-car maker Lamborghini has been developing a strategy how to present itself to stock-market investors since well before Volkswagen asked each of its brands to come up with virtual equity stories, according to the unitÂ’s Chief Executive Officer Stephan Winkelmann. “WeÂ’ve been working on this with other agencies in order to create clarity,” Winkelmann said. “As a brand, weÂ’ve done so for a long time, to show what worth, what value we have. Up until a little while ago, it wasnÂ’t so well known.” Porsche became EuropeÂ’s most valuable automaker last month, when its market capitalization overtook that of VW a week after its IPO in Frankfurt. The debut of the 911 maker was a bold move into public markets, which have been largely shut for most of the year. VW CEO Oliver Blume has said he sees the listing as a blueprint to unlock more value from the groupÂ’s brands that also include Audi and Bentley. “An IPO drill is exactly what you do to show the public how solid you are and what is in progress for the future,” Winkelmann said. “We have a clear story and strategy for that.” Audi, which oversees VWÂ’s premium brands, said last month there are no concrete plans for an IPO of Lamborghini. A previous push to potentially spin off the carmaker and motorcycle brand Ducati ran into opposition from labor leaders. Still, LamborghiniÂ’s recent profit gains -- including a 31.9% operating margin in the first half of this year -- make a solid case for a stock-market listing, said Michael Dean, an analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence. “An IPO is something that could potentially happen in the next 18 months, depending on market conditions,” Dean said. “A ˆ15 billion valuation is entirely justifiable and could be even higher, given the margin metrics.” LamborghiniÂ’s deliveries rose 8% to 7,430 vehicles in the first nine months of the year. Operating profit climbed 69% to ˆ570 million ($567 million). Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
