This vehicle has a salvage title.
We bought it from a friend in December 2013 who purchased it at an insurance auction with the intent to fix it and give it to my daughter. We knew nothing about a VR6 and purchased the vehicle under the presumption that is was a good starter vehicle - German maker, small, manual transmission (no texting). We did not realize the car is a quasi sports car and probably not suitable for a first driver. Moreover the vehicle seems to have been up-kept well by the previous owner and I suspect they had seat covers because the leather was almost new looking. VW history showed dealership service and maintenance. The repairs related to the insurance claim were relegated to the front right side and somewhat elementary - husband works for a Toyota Dealership - and included: - Radiator - Right Axle - Control Arm - Aux Radiator - Core Support - Control arm ...this was the extent of the repairs necessary and relevant to the insurance claim. I understand that the repairs were within 65% of the value of the vehicle and this constituted a total loss claim. We were able to do the work for a fraction of the cost because of my husbands job. Other repairs made are as follows. - R & R Dash and rebuild HVAC box. (new blend doors, heater core and AC condenser) - New center console trim. (Old parts were cracked and sticky from the deteriorating soft-touch finish - Sublet the lower dash parts to remove the tar-like deteriorating soft-touch finish and re-finish - New headliner - New Plugs, Wires and Coil - New Coolant hoses.. * Thermostat (70C or 80C Behr Brand) w/Gasket, 075121113D * Thermostat Housing Cover (Genuine VW), 021121121C * Thermostat Housing (Genuine VW), 022121117C * Thermostat Housing Gasket, 021121119A * Long Water Pipe w/O-Rings (Genuine VW), 021121050C (12v) // Upgraded with Stainless Steel Crack Pipe from urotuning.com Part# 42-130-001/2 * (2) Water Temp Sensor O-Rings, N90316802 * (2) Sensor C Clip Retainers, 032121142 * Cooling Hose (Expansion Tank to Aux Pump), [1J0122109AL] * Cooling Hose (Throttle to Cylinder Head), [1J0122157DN] * Cooling Hose (Throttle to Water Pipe), [1J0121447T] * Cooling Hose (Upper Rad to Water Pipe to Thermo), [1J0122101AP] * Cooling Hose (Water Pipe to Aux Rad Feed), [1J0122101AT] * Cooling Hose (Water pipe to Water pipe), [1J0121051Q] * Cooling Hose (Thermo Housing to Aux Pump) There are some other repairs were were going to make but didn't - Windshield is cracked. $185 - Rearview mirror auto-dim is foggy and needs to be repaired $99.00 - Cooling Hose (Water pipe to Aux Rad Return), [1J0121051L] - This part was not in stock when I made the original repairs. - Tires. They have good tread, but are different makes. - Spare tire is original and never used so it ought to be replaced. - Two center caps. I bought 4 new ones but they were for a Passat and didn't fit. - Bumper cover needs to be replaced or repaired. The rims have some scuffs. We were quoted $200 to repaint them but I did not find them to be that significant. Shipping: I have the ability to ship this vehicle within 500 miles or so with minimal expense. If you are in Maryland or DC I may be able to ship for free. That is about it - any questions please feel free to ask. |

Angry diesel owners joining lawsuits against Volkswagen [w/video]
Thu, Sep 24 2015Livid at the prospect of losing thousands of dollars from the value of their cars and performance from their diesel engines, many owners of Volkswagens are headed to court. A law firm with a track record of suing automakers has already filed three class-action lawsuits against the German automaker related to its emissions-cheating scandal and says a fourth one is on the way. The lawsuits, filed by national firm Hagens Berman, accuse Volkswagen Group of America of fraudulent concealment, false advertising, and violations of federal and state laws. Plaintiffs in all 50 states have joined the class-action suits, according to the firm. A spokesperson says there has been "an unprecedented response" since the first lawsuit was filed within hours of an announcement from federal regulators last Friday. The lawsuits accuse Volkswagen Group of America of fraudulent concealment, false advertising, and violations of federal and state laws. Diesel owners paid thousands more for their vehicles instead of their gasoline-powered counterparts because Volkswagen's diesel engines ostensibly offered both torque and fuel economy. Now affected car owners are faced with a double-whammy – the value of their cars has diminished with the news and the purported software fix that brings the cars in emissions compliance will likely lower their performance and gas mileage. "Hundreds of thousands of consumers put their trust in VW when they looked to its 'Clean Diesel' line for an efficient, environmentally conscious diesel option," said Steve Berman, managing partner. "But for years, VW cheated the system. Its TDI line of fast but 'good-for-the-environment' cars seemed too good to be true, and they were." In its latest court filing, Hagens Berman lawyers said that car owners believed their vehicles were in compliance with Environmental Protection Agency standards and that the cars would retain their operating characteristics throughout their useful lives. Another firm, Girard Gibbs, has also filed a lawsuit over the diesel deception. "These Volkswagen vehicles should never have been sold, and certainly should not have spent the past six years on American roads polluting our air," said Eric Gibbs, the lead attorney. "Not only does this kind of fraud harm consumers and the environment, it negatively impacts competition, which is what drives our free-market system.
VW's credit ratings could take a beating
Fri, Sep 25 2015In addition to a significant drop in its share price already, Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal is continuing to have major financial repercussions on the German automaker. According to The Detroit News, credit rating agencies like Standard & Poor's and Moody's changed their forecasts on the company to negative, and Fitch has considered doing so, as well. Volkswagen appears to have the money to cover the costs of this ordeal, but the agencies question the effect that this has in the long term. "Moody's concern, however, is that Volkswagen's alleged breach of US environment rules and, especially, the process by which that breach occurred, will have an adverse effect on its reputation and credibility within the global passenger car markets," the company wrote in a note to investors, according to The Detroit News. VW has initially set aside $7.25 billion to fix things, but the potential shakeup of top executives has caused some investor uncertainty, too. The actual costs for VW to deal with this scandal are still unknown. In the US, the Department of Justice has begun a criminal investigation, and with other automakers the government has settled for $900 million against General Motors and $1.2 billion against Toyota. Attorneys general in 29 states have started looking deeper, according to The Detroit News, and regulators in Europe, South Korea, and Canada have commenced their own probes, as well. Related Video:
New investor allows Suzuki to fend off VW
Tue, Aug 4 2015After years of legal wrangling, the long-soured partnership between Volkswagen and Suzuki looks finally to be coming out of arbitration, according to Bloomberg. As a sign of the Japanese brand's improved fortunes, hedge fund Third Point LLC recently bought an undisclosed stake in the company. The investor reported seeing a major opportunity in the successful Maruti Suzuki business in India. As an investment, the only major problem that Third Point found with Suzuki was its legal battle with VW. "The company's greatest asset is its low-cost manufacturing process for vehicles for the emerging market consumer," the fund said in a letter, according to Bloomberg. Third Point reportedly also wants a seat on Suzuki's board, despite being a minority shareholder. The alliance between Suzuki and VW goes back to late 2009. In the deal, the Japanese brand was meant to get access to cutting-edge tech, and the German firm got a helping hand towards better establishing itself in India and Southeast Asia. Things didn't go as planned, though. Less than two years later, Suzuki's boss publicly derided the deal. Eventually, the allegations started going back and forth, and the two have been working out a way to untangle practically ever since. Among the biggest issue has been how to get back the 19.9 percent stake that VW purchased. According to Bloomberg, the arbitration is now technically over. With the divorce nearly final, the two sides are just waiting on a decision on how to split things up. Suzuki may even just buy VW's stake to get the shares back.
