14" tires that are not great but they are OK.

Body:

Im sure there is some rust some where but i dont see it as you can see in the pictures the panels are rust free - even the rear apron where they tend to rust - im sure there might be some on the undercarriage but this car is NOT rusty.
There is a dent in passenger fender - see picture - missing the trim piece as well
Dent in hood - one above driver headlight - smaller one closer to passenger headlight on the edge ( hard to see it in the pictures)
Dent in rear quarter panel driver side - again hard to see in the pics - but its there.
Paint on the top of the driver fender is " peeling " so that probably means it was repainted at some time.
Dent in lower valance by driver front tire - see pic..
Passenger side view mirror has ROUND mirror in place of factory square mirror
Both rear door handles do NOT work from outside
Driver door handle is weak and about to break as well.
But all the door open and lock manually
Windshield is good no big cracks or anything that stands out
Rear passenger tail light has a spider web crack in the center
I did just go back out to look at the windshield and noticed driver side lower part of windshield has a few small bubbles or rust - very very minor but it is there like on most older Mk2's
Missing the passenger side rear wheel center cap - this wheel also has a curb shot on it -  

Engine / Mechanical :

Wanted to say first - that i do not know any history of this car - timing belt looks ok but no record of it being replaced. 

Fires right up on first try. Sounds like a diesel..  First thing i notice is the glow plug light is always on - not sure what that means but it starts up everytime, i always wait a minute before starting it after turning key to accessory position.
Injection pump is what i believe they call a " high altitude " injection pump - similar to the older turbo pumps - it looks dry around fittings.
Battery looks new.  Engine bay is pretty clean and doesnt looks like anything obvious is missing.   AC does NOT work - all components are there maybe it needs charged up? Maybe it needs more?  The Oil Dip Stick is held on with a bent up close hanger to hold it down , the only oil deposits i see are where the dip stick tube goes into the block  there is alot of oil around the base of the dip stick tube.  

Overall - get in and go - 70 MPH no problem.

Interior:

Dash has crack right down the middle. Missing both interior door mirror caps ( oh yes the passenger door mirror has some sort of round aftermarket in place of the factory glass )  Shift boot is tore up pretty bad.   There is a TAPE player in the dash - but it does not work - does not even power up -  i am going to check fuse and will update details if i get it to work.  Seats are in great shape , as with the door panels. Missing passenger side sun visor. This is a NON-SUNROOF car so the headliner is all there and in decent shape as well.  carpet is dirty and has stains but no big holes -   its also missing the inner driver side front lower carpet trim piece that goes between the door and the carpet.

Forgot to mention that the driver side upper seat belt receiver on the driver door DOES NOT WORK -  the lab belt works - but the receiver on the driver front door will not ACCEPT the shoulder belt -  i am going to look to see if i have a spare one.

A Tesla Model S driver shows what it's like to maintain about 125 miles per hour on the German Autobahn. In the video, Bjorn Nyland records his trip from a stop at a Supercharger 25 miles to the Danish border while driving about 200 kph for about 12 minutes. Upon entering the Autobahn, he hits the limiter at about 212 kph, or almost 132 mph. As he's driving, the car's estimated driving range adjusts for his speed, and he quickly loses quite a few miles. Phoenix Cars has provided an Electric Shuttle Bus to an airport parking company at the Los Angeles International Airport. As LAX's first electric shuttle bus, it is expected to run two shifts seven days a week, saving more than 60 tons of CO2 emissions yearly. The electric shuttle bus will be on display from June 29 to July 2 at the International Parking Institute Conference and Expo in Las Vegas. Phoenix also recently supplied its ZEUS electric flatbed to the US Navy. Read more in the press release below. Ballard will operate a fleet of eight hydrogen-powered buses in London for an additional five years. Transport for London uses the buses, powered by Ballard fuel cell technology, for its central Covent Garden-Tower Gateway route. The first five buses went into service in 2010 as Transport for London aimed to reduce CO2 emissions by 60 percent from 1990 levels by 2025. The three additional buses joined the fleet in 2013. "This contract extension is a positive endorsement of zero-emission fuel cell technology in transit applications, based on the demonstrated performance of these buses over the past five years," says Ballard Chief Commercial Officer Steve Karaffa. "Clean transportation is a growing concern for transit authorities globally and our fuel cell modules deliver a proven solution." Read more from Ballard. Volkswagen and SAIC are expanding electric vehicle operations in China. The partners will expand the main Shanghai Volkswagen plant to build electric vehicles. "Over the next four years, we plan to localize more than 15 different electric vehicle models in China, including plug-in hybrids and fully electric vehicles," says Volkswagen's Prof. Dr. Jochem Heizmann. Volkswagen will also step up fuel cell and plug-in hybrid research in China. In about four years, Volkswagen will build a new EV, based on the popular Lavida, at the Anting plant outside of Shanghai. Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and Audi announce Takata recalls

Daimler, Volkswagen, and Audi will recall nearly 1.7 million total vehicles in the US to replace their Takata airbag inflators. The Japanese parts supplier and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced in late January that several automakers would need to fix around five million more vehicles, and the various companies have been releasing the details since then. Daimler has a recall for 841,000 vehicles in the US, including 705,000 from Mercedes-Benz and 136,000 from the company's van division. Reuters reports the affected models consist of 2005-2014 examples of the SLK-Class, C-Class, E-Class, M-Class, GL-Class, R-Class, and SLS-Class. The vans comprise the 2007-2014 models of the Dodge, Freightliner, and Mercedes Sprinter. Autoblog reached out to Mercedes USA to confirm these details, and we're awaiting a reply. Daimler expects the repair campaign to cost 340 million euros ($382 million at current rates). The company will book the costs as part of its financial year 2015 results, and net profit for that year will fall to 8.7 billion euros ($9.8 billion). Volkswagen's recall covers 680,000 vehicles in the US to replace their driver side airbags. The affected models have Takata's SDI and PSDI-5 inflators, which could rupture in an crash, but the automaker isn't aware of any explosions for these parts in its products. This campaign includes: 2006-2010 Passat Sedan and Wagon (German Production) 2012-2014 Eos 2010-2014 Golf 2010-2014 Jetta SportWagen 2012-2014 Passat (U.S. Production) 2009-2014 CC There are also 170,000 Audi vehicles with the SDI and PSDI-5 inflators in the US, but there are no reports of the parts rupturing in the company's models. The affected products are: 2005-2013 A3 2006-2009 A4 Cabrio 2009-2012 Q5 2010-2011 A5 Cabrio VW and Audi are still working to identify the specific VINs for these vehicles. Afterwards, they will notify affected owners. Ford, Mazda, and Honda already announced details for their new round of Takata repairs. VW and Audi also recalled a small number of Tiguans and Q5s to replace their side airbag inflators from the Japanese company. NHTSA still expects BMW and Saab to detail expanded safety campaigns.

Average transaction prices climb to a record $36,270 in January

The automotive sector made a hash of the numbers last month, a mess of pluses and minuses clogging the transaction-price charts according to Kelley Blue Book. The overall industry rose one percent, even though buyers bought fewer cars and light vehicles in January 2018 vs 2017 using the selling-day adjusted rate. Due to January transaction prices rising to $36,270, a record for January, the value of new vehicles sold climbed more than $1 billion compared to January 2017. KBB's transaction prices don't include customer incentives, which changes the complexion slightly; average incentive spending rose to just over ten percent. The average transaction price in December 2017 was $36,756, so January dropped a bit - nothing unexpected, with the month annually blamed for "January doldrums." More revealing is the fact that the average transaction price in January 2017 was $34,910. This year's plumped-up figure came courtesy of the continued shift to crossovers, SUVs, and light trucks, which shouldn't surprise anyone who's read an automotive blog in the past 20 years. That category comprised nearly 70 percent of new vehicle sales for the month. Some manufacturers profited more than others, though. Fiat Chrysler managed 12.8 percent fewer sales in January compared year-on-year, but the company's vehicles sold for $1,300 more. The Ford brand suffered a 6.3-percent dip in sales, but brand transaction prices increased $2,000, while a Lincoln sold for $8,700 more on average. General Motors sold more cars and sold them for more money; overall GM transaction prices rose four percent, or $1,270, while a GMC traded hands for seven-percent more than in January 2017 and a Cadillac got $2,300 more on average. Of KBB's listed automakers, the Volkswagen Group got the most of out its customers, transaction prices rising at the German automaker by 5.6 percent to $42,243 in January 2018 compared to a year earlier.
