2002 Volkswagen Golf GLS TDI This has the high demand 5 speed Manual Transmission Clutch is fine, no issues. 1.9 Liter Turbo charged ALH engine Timing belt and water pump, tensioner was done around 75,000 miles. It had the 100,000 mile belt installed Turbo works excellent. The glow plug system works fine. I installed a larger battery to assure it starts up on the coldest of winter mornings. Power windows all work fine, as well as the power sunroof, gas door and rear hatch release. The brakes feel good. The front brake pads have about 60% left. Rear brake pads have about %40 left. Shocks are great up front. The rear are still good but I would replace them when you do the brake pads, they were replaced maybe 5 years ago. The rest of the suspension is good. Steering feels great and responsive. Tires were just rotated. Two tires are about %80, Two tires I would replace soon. They are worn at one side because the car needed an alignment, which was done last year. It is due for an oil change next month. The fuel filter was replaced in November. The car needs a small hose from the PCV valve on the top of the valve cover gasket to the intake tube (can be clearly seen on the engine picture). The car had another key/cluster programmed something with the security system would not let the car start with the key. The body is very good for its 12 year old age and northern environment. The pictures should depict so. If you have any questions please let me know. This car is very reliable. I would replace the tires before taking it on a cross country journey. Despite the tires, the car drives excellent on the highway. The cruise control works The AM/FM works. I never used the CD or TAPE player. No reason for me to think it would not work. The glove box latch is NOT broken Head lights, turn signals, brake lights are good. This car reliably will get me 50-55 MPG with reasonable highway driving If you do not know much about the TDIs you *WANT* to buy a PRE-2004 TDI (2003 and down). WHY? the 2004+ ALH motors have a newer, more problematic pumpe-duse fuel injection system. The camshaft (upper engine) also fails prematurely on the 2004+. The 99-03 model Jetta, Golf, Passat, Beetle TDI are the ones to look for and buy. The car is located in Niantic, CT (near New london, New haven - southern CT) though I commute to Providince, RI so I can meet you anywhere in that general area if that helps. The TF Greene airport in Providence is pretty close (PVD). The Amtrak train also is very close (New London). TERMS OF SALE: Winning bidder must contact me within 12 hours after close of auction. Winterkorn vacates chairs on Audi, Truck & Bus boards
Thu, Nov 12 2015The last remaining vestiges of Martin Winterkorn's power within the Volkswagen Group are slowly melting away. The former chairman of the group's management board resigned as CEO nearly two months ago in the wake of the diesel emissions scandal. He held onto other roles within the group, but one by one he's been vacating those as well. Last month Winterkorn resigned from his role at Porsche SE – Volkswagen's largest shareholder. Now the latest development comes from Bloomberg, which reports that Winterkorn has stepped down from his role as chairman of the supervisory board at Audi. Prior to his promotion to run the entire group, Winterkorn served as chief executive of the Audi division, and prior to his resignation served continued to serve as its board chairman. No date was given for his resignation from that capacity, nor any successor named at this point. Repeated requests for clarification from Audi have gone unanswered. In correspondence with Autoblog, however, spokespeople for VW's commercial vehicle operations confirmed that Winterkorn has also stepped down as the chairman of the board at Truck & Bus GmbH. The newly established division encompasses truck manufacturers Man and Scania. Winterkorn also served as chairman of Scania's board, but requests for confirmation of his departure from that role also went unanswered. The Swedish truck manufacturer, however, named Henrik Henriksson as its a new chief executive only a few days ago.
Automakers drop support for Trump effort against California emissions
Tue, Feb 2 2021WASHINGTON — Toyota, Fiat Chrysler (now known as Stellantis following its merger with Peugeot) and other major automakers said on Tuesday they were joining General Motors in abandoning support for former President Donald Trump's effort to bar California from setting its own zero emission vehicle rules. The automakers, which also included Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, Mazda and Subaru, said in a joint statement they were withdrawing from an ongoing legal challenge to California's emission-setting powers, "in a gesture of good faith and to find a constructive path forward" with President Joe Biden. The automakers, along with the National Automobile Dealers Association, said they were aligned "with the Biden administrationÂ’s goals to achieve year-over-year improvements in fuel economy standards." Nissan in December withdrew from the challenge after GM's decision in November shocked the industry and won praise from Biden. On Monday, the Justice Department asked the U.S. Appeals Court for the District of Columbia to put the California emissions litigation on hold to "ensure due respect for the prerogative of the executive branch to reconsider the policy decisions of a prior administration." Biden has directed agencies to quickly reconsider TrumpÂ’s 2019 decision to revoke CaliforniaÂ’s authority to set its own auto tailpipe emissions standards and require rising numbers of zero-emission vehicles, as well as Trump's national fuel economy rollback. Asked to respond to the automakers' action, White House climate adviser Gina McCarthy said in a statement that "after four years of putting us in reverse, it is time to restart and build a sustainable future, grow domestic manufacturing, and deliver clean cars for America." California Governor Gavin Newsom praised the automakers on Twitter for "dropping your climate-denying, air-polluting, Trump-era lawsuit against CA" and urged them to join the voluntary framework. TALKS WITH BIDEN Separately, an industry trade group on Tuesday proposed to start talks with Biden on revised fuel economy standards that would be higher than Trump-era standards but lower than ones set during the prior Democratic administration. The Trump administration in March finalized a rollback of U.S. Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards to require 1.5% annual increases in efficiency through 2026, well below the 5% yearly boosts under the Obama administration rules it discarded.
Angry diesel owners joining lawsuits against Volkswagen [w/video]
Thu, Sep 24 2015Livid at the prospect of losing thousands of dollars from the value of their cars and performance from their diesel engines, many owners of Volkswagens are headed to court. A law firm with a track record of suing automakers has already filed three class-action lawsuits against the German automaker related to its emissions-cheating scandal and says a fourth one is on the way. The lawsuits, filed by national firm Hagens Berman, accuse Volkswagen Group of America of fraudulent concealment, false advertising, and violations of federal and state laws. Plaintiffs in all 50 states have joined the class-action suits, according to the firm. A spokesperson says there has been "an unprecedented response" since the first lawsuit was filed within hours of an announcement from federal regulators last Friday. The lawsuits accuse Volkswagen Group of America of fraudulent concealment, false advertising, and violations of federal and state laws. Diesel owners paid thousands more for their vehicles instead of their gasoline-powered counterparts because Volkswagen's diesel engines ostensibly offered both torque and fuel economy. Now affected car owners are faced with a double-whammy – the value of their cars has diminished with the news and the purported software fix that brings the cars in emissions compliance will likely lower their performance and gas mileage. "Hundreds of thousands of consumers put their trust in VW when they looked to its 'Clean Diesel' line for an efficient, environmentally conscious diesel option," said Steve Berman, managing partner. "But for years, VW cheated the system. Its TDI line of fast but 'good-for-the-environment' cars seemed too good to be true, and they were." In its latest court filing, Hagens Berman lawyers said that car owners believed their vehicles were in compliance with Environmental Protection Agency standards and that the cars would retain their operating characteristics throughout their useful lives. Another firm, Girard Gibbs, has also filed a lawsuit over the diesel deception. "These Volkswagen vehicles should never have been sold, and certainly should not have spent the past six years on American roads polluting our air," said Eric Gibbs, the lead attorney. "Not only does this kind of fraud harm consumers and the environment, it negatively impacts competition, which is what drives our free-market system.
